Poor food quality. Poor service.
We had an awesome experience. Lyndsay was great. The food was spot on. The atmosphere was great. We always make a stop here each time we come to the OBX.
My wife and I were a bit disappointed in Kimball's new menu with a focus on steakhouse fare. Steaks are easy, and we go to nice restaurants for interesting and new foods, things that we have not tried before. We preferred the old menu, even going back to when they were "The Left Bank." The steaks we had were good, and well prepared, but they were steaks.
However, the service as always was wonderful, the view cannot be beat, and it's a nice place to go. One of the very few places in OBX where one can go and not feel out of place dressed up a little. Looking forward to the next trip to the area.
Wonderful food, view and service! Highly recommend!
We celebrated our 32nd anniversary at Kimball’s Kitchen. We had such a memorable evening and want to thank the staff for great service, food & drinks, and ambiance!
The interior of the restaurant is beautiful, and the views are absolutely breath-taking, but that's where my praise of this place stops. The service and the food were just okay. My husband had the She-Crab soup which had good flavor. I had a Wedge which was decent. Then we both had steaks. My husband a strip and me a filet. They were cooked through properly (ordered medium), but for some reason came out cold, which I can't understand because the place wasn't crowded. Mine was done Oscar-style and I think it would have been really tasty if it had just been hotter. For the price, I would have expected it to be outstanding - something I would rave about, and instead I find myself thinking I probably wouldn't go back, and unsure if I'd recommend it. Ambience wise though this has got to be one of the most beautiful restaurants in OBX. Shame their food wasn't hotter, because this review would have likely been a lot different...if you hit it on a night when the grill/ovens are running hotter you might have an unbelievable experience. Just know you are probably going to spend about $100 a person.
A great place for a special event!
Pricey for the Outer Banks, but the food was excellent. Good wine list. Definitely more of a “special occasion” stop unless you are staying at the Sanderling.
Had a reservation for 8:30pm but because of long drive from Ocracoke, we were unable to make it. They were kind enough to change it to 9pm. Obviously with such a late time, the sun was set and we were unable to appreciate the marvelous view that I had read about.
The bread was great. The She crab soup superb. had great entrees. glad we added on the brussel sprout side.
Beautiful restaurant. Service ok! She did not notice that neither one on us ate our meal. Grouper sauce was awful. Bread was good. Love Stacy the bartender!
This is our favorite place!! Absolutely delicious food every time, great views, beautiful inside, and always great service!! We always look forward to our dinner here when we visit OBX!!!
The new manager/sommelier was awesome. I've come many times and enjoyed my meal but he was so personable, warm, and smart, it literally made me want to come back again during this stay to say "Hello".
We arrived for a 7:15 reservation and were seated promptly at a prime table by the windows overlooking the sound. Perfect for viewing the sunset. Our server, Lynsey greeted us warmly and asked for our drink order. There were several offerings of wine by the glass, as well as some special wines that she described. Upon her recommendation, I enjoyed an Oakey Pouilly Fuisse, with a lovely emerald gold color and a fresh palate with noted of hazelnut and citrus. My husband had a nicely chilled St. Pauli Girl. Our appetizer was a fresh, crisp double baby wedge salad with bacon, bleu cheese, heirloom grape tomatoes and a lovely buttermilk dressing. My husband ordered the filet mignon with a cognac peppercorn sauce which arrived perfectly cooked. He paired his entrée with a lovely Cabernet. I ordered the brown butter basted diver scallops over rosemary grits with smoked honey and crispy pancetta tuilles. We ended the meal by sharing a decadent chocolate tart. All in all a wonderful meal made most enjoyable by our knowledgeable, attentive, yet unobtrusive server, Lynsey.
This was our 6th year coming during our Duck, NC vacation and we won't be returning. The food was poor and the service even worse. There are many better restaurants in the area. I'm sad because we loved this place.
We were excited to try this OBX 4 Diamond rated restaurant. All in all, the food was very good.
Our issue, along with another party sitting near us, was the service. The service was poor, along with the skill and knowledge of the waitstaff. We asked 4 times to have our beverages refilled (iced tea) the only side dish we ordered was never delivered to the table, and the removal of used dishes took almost 15 min after we were finished eating.
There was also a problem with at least 6 large flies that continually landed on our food, glasses, and culterly. This alone is unacceptable.
Would not return based on service and flies, but must state the food itself, was outstanding.
We were enjoying a beach vacation at their managing property, the Sanderling Resort.
Wanted an upscale dining experience one night and this one delivered. Service was top notch. All food and drinks were very good, but I wouldn’t say the best we’ve had. Nice treat for my 12 year old son while on vacation and a great excuse to make him dress up a bit more than his usual athletic clothes attire.
Good food every time we visit Sanderling on vacation.
Beautiful sunset view and restaurant. Limited menu and a bit pricey for the food.
Outstanding kitchen with a great dining view. Upscale resort dining but falls short in remembering special occasion, too much smoke from the kitchen and the table linens looked tired. Expect better for the price charged.
Excellent in just about all areas except the grilling of the steak. What is not to know about medium done?
Our dinner was exceptional, the service was amazing, and I would recommend it highly.
not what we expected. dress code was absolutely not enforced, the atmosphere was loud and very casual, the menu was limited to beef and a very few sea food options. service was good at the start and non existent at the end of the meal. and everything was too pricey.
Great food. Outstanding wine selection. Service 5 stars.
Great service but had to send steak back
We went here for our anniversary while on vacation in OBX. Beautiful views and and nice modern feel. Food was excellent. Dining room would get a bit Smokey at times since the kitchen is open, but it didn’t affect our overall experience.
Place has improved to the level of now being a true first class restaurant.
One of the best meals I’ve had in OBX, and I’ve been coming here for many years.
Outstanding food and service. A “must visit” for us when on the outer banks
Our reservation had us a sunset view table, beautiful ambience. Extensive wine list with a menu focus on beef selections. Good appetizers and sides. Our only complaint was the cooking scale of the beef. My medium rare was more like medium well. Staff was friendly and very attentive.
In the area on vacation with family and our 2 month old daughter. Husband and I were able to get away for an early dinner date. Absolutely fabulous choice! Lindsey our server was excellent. Food was outstanding. Will definitely be back!
Had our family of 7 for an anniversary dinner. Restaurant is very attractive with large views of the bay. We were seated right away, server was very knowledgable. Extensive wine list, but they were out of the chardonnay we selected. Food was terrific. Salads are easily large enough to share, all the entrees were prepared perfectly. Is a bit pricey for OBX but certainly a great place for a special occasion.
This is an extremely over priced restaurant trying to pose as a fine dining establishment. Food and service were both under par. 4 of the 5 steaks we ordered had to be sent back . I would not recommend.
Fantastic dinner! View of sunset added to the atmosphere
We had a wonderful dinner. Our waiter Ryan was amazing. The food was awesome! We will definitely be back!
By far the best dining experience we had all week on vacation
We stopped going to Kimballs 18 months ago after a terrible dinner. But we always loved the ambiance and view. So we have it another try and Wow. They certainly turned this place around. Food and service was outstanding. Highly recommend.
The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. We ordered drinks, appetizers, salad and steaks. Everything about the meal was outstanding. Highly recommend Kimball’s!
Everything was wonderful. We were surprised to be treated to a window seat. The wait staff was very accommodating and professional. The food was divine.
Amazing meal and service (Thanks, Bryan). Serious attention to detail regarding my daughter’s 6 allergies. We will definitely go back.
