Beautiful restaurant and great wine list. Sustainable seasonal menu with many choices for vegetarians. Table by the window was FREEZING, and some dishes were cold (like just out of the fridge cold) that would would have been much nicer hot. Otherwise food was delicious.
Each dish ordered was artfully presented. The Burrata was creamy & almost sweet. Delicious! Highly recommend the mushroom tacos for their taste. The grilled Octopus was the best of all we ordered.
Service was excellent. They had a good wine list too. Ambiance - felt a little crowded with narrow spaces between tables.
Kilo was pretty good, not great. Service was prompt and professional and found the ambiance cozy. It's just that the food was mixed. The carrot tartare was bland, the mushroom tacos quite good, the octopus cooked beautifully but way too salty, the duck breast delicious. Given the relatively slim menu of small plates, I was disappointed that they were not all equally good.
Nice dining experience. It's a small venue so, when we arrived late for our reservation, our table had been given away but we were politely accommodated at the bar. The food and service were terrific. The portions were just the right size to share. We will definitely go back.
Kilo is a tiny gem--tapas type farm to table food that was absolutely delicious. We split the mushroom tacos, which were excellent, a "lingua" special which was a bit salty but. Incredibly tasty, and the winner--hands down--was the octopus. Perfectly cooked, sauced, spiced and accompanied. Not only is the food great, the gentleman who waited on us and is also the sommelier was terrific--walked us through the menu, recommended the perfect wine, and made our dining experience even more pleasant.
We were running more than 15 min late for our 6:45 reservation and had a show to see at 8. Everyone was very accommodating to make sure we got to the show on time. We ended up having plenty of time to eat the very delicious food. Some of the best most tender octopus I’ve had outside of islands I’ve been to—just melts in your mouth.
Cute spot with excellent wine selection. Food was fantastic. The mushroom tacos were delicious as were the curried mussels. I wasn't a fan of the burrata with squash as it was a bit bland. Our server told us he was the wine buyer for the place and gave us accurate descriptions of the wine and nice pairing recommendations.
What a truly special place to happen upon in the heart of midtown.
From the quality of the ingredients to the thoughtfulness of the service to the laid-back vibe, this reminded me more of a place I would find at the heart of a cozy town in the Catskills or Pacific Northwest. The owners are quick to accommodate (shifting our party of 3 to 4 in a very intimate space) and educate you on the menu (ever-changing with what's in season), and are generous and flexible in tailoring the order to your group (we'll start with 3 crostini and you can order another when you're 4th guest arrives).
Did I mention the food and wine were delicious?
My only regret is that we couldn't linger for hours, as we had to head to our evening plans. To find a place so welcoming is a rare treat, and I hope to call myself a regular.
I've dined at Kilo multiple times, and typically enjoy an excellent meal in a pleasant atmosphere. While the atmosphere and staff were spot on as usual, the food was incredibly salty, and a bit devoid of any real taste, which is not what I am accustomed to at Kilo. I'm willing to give the restaurant another shot, but for $55 per person including tax and tip, and sharing 3 dishes with 1 glass of wine each, this particular visit was indeed disappointing.
Fabulous meal! We were visiting NYC and found Kilo on Open Table. It was just a couple of blocks from our hotel.
It was cozy and warm. Service was very attentive and our waiter L.J. was helpful and friendly.
We shared the watermelon pancetta, mushroom tacos, octopus with chorizo and chickpeas, and the mussels. We could have stopped at three tapas, but the mussels were so good that we wound up asking for extra bread. A small portion of green tea ice cream finished off the glorious meal.
We loved it so much that we purchased a gift certificate for friends who live nearby. We will definitely be back!
The single most rudest experience ever. Lived in NYC 15 years and nothing compares. Read some reviews of bad service but decided to try it anyway hoping it was wrong. Had a reservation and still seated at a communal table which was not ideal but no problem, can make the best of it. Midway through our meal the host (if you could call him that) came up behind is and said "I have to move you". We look up to see a group of 5 people waiting to spill over to where we were sitting. He repeated it and I said well why don't you give us our bill instead so we can settle up. He responded "you still have to move".
Food is average, wine overpriced for the pour. Honestly not worth the hassle in a crowded space.
Our waiter was great and very knowledgeable about the wine. He first gave us a sample of the wine we chose so that we could make the right decision. We shared the crostini and the chicken dish and for dessert I had the blackerry tart and my friend the green tea ice cream with strawberries. All was delicious! We'll definitely come back!
Lastminute booking as it was nearby and we were looking for a late night bite to eat. A little dark but its that dark moody ambience they're going for. Not a bad thing as I could just read the menu :) ordered the mushroom tacos, courgette ribbons and crostini. Delicious, all three. Could have eaten more but was a tad pricey although must be NYC prices etc. Fab and fresh food though. Yum.
