Kilauea Lodge and Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Truly atmospheric and resembling a cozy mountain lodge. Food is very good and portions are generous. Service is also warm and professional. We liked this visit so much that we returned again the following night and again, were well taken care of. I would recommend this place to round off a visit to the volcano. Well worth it.
For a my wife's 60th Birthday, I took her to the Kilauea Lodge B & B for a two night stay. This included a New Years Eve dinner. The ambiance of the dinning area of the lodge is very cozy with a large brick fire place, a rustic wood decor and nicely decorated for the season. Our food was absolutely delicious from the rack of lamb to the prime rib and topped of with a yummy chocolate desert. The wait help were very attentive and cheerful , which made the night a most memorable night for both of us. Yes even the breakfast, which is included with the stay, was
For Boxing Day in Volcano we wanted to splurge for dinner out and this was a great family pick! Coconut curry mushroom soup, macadamia nut bread, lobster Caesar salad,Ono and Tuna cooked perfectly and apple cheesecake for dessert with a local Volcano wine. Delish! Wonderful ambiance and terrific service.
We actually enjoyed 2 dinners and 2 brunches while staying in Volcano village for a couple of days right before Christmas. We have dined at Kilauea Lodge a couple of years ago and returned. We were not disappointed. The menu provides a nice selection with some specials. The wait staff is very professional, well-trained and managed and the food was terrific. The service was a small bit slow during the holiday season, but now more than we might expect and the staff was so courteous and apologetic about any delays that we were not bothered by this at all. It is so wonderful to find such a fine dining experience located so near a fabulous national park. Thank you for helping us enjoy our vacation on The Big Island!
Kilauea Lodge and Restaurant was recommended to us by friends who are locals in Volcano so we had an idea it would be great. I made our reservation for my wife's 62nd birthday and it was just perfect. The restaurant had balloons at the table and mention on the dinner menu for her birthday along with other folks celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. A nice touch indeed and great appreciated.
The food choices were very different than we expected. Not a Hawaiian theme menu, but multi-cultural. We were both happy with our choices and enjoyed our leftovers for lunch the next day.
We would most definitely return during our next visit to Volcano. Thank you for the special treat!
If you are staying near Volcano, Hawaii, there aren't many "fine dining" options. We knew this when we made reservations, still we expected a pleasant dining experience. If this restaurant was anywhere other than in a high tourist area, it would have to improve the menu or lower prices if it wanted to survive. If I was to stay in the area again, I'd seek other options, perhaps pick up dinner from the Thai food truck parked nearby and take it to our B&B with a nice bottle of wine.
The Chef at Kilauea Lodge is one of the property owners. The menus are inventive, interesting and use many local ingredients. The soups are amazing. The menu doesn’t change every day, but there is plenty to select from, if you are staying in Volcano for 2-3 days. Service can be a bit slow sometimes, but the wait staff is friendly and actually seems to appreciate that you have chosen the Lodge for your dining experience. The martinis are wonderful and served in a manner to ensure they remain cold to the last drop! We stayed two nights and had dinner twice, breakfast twice and ordered a packed lunch (which was quite good) to take with us to the Park. Absolutely worth a visit!
I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a cozy hunting lodge. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The soup was amazing and the house salad was refreshing. The table was split on the fresh warm bread – one person thought it was great, but another felt that there wasn't enough butter. Everyone loved the duck. Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were too expensive for us.
We were very disappointed with our meal; we both ordered the Antelope, which was described as "Antelope leg" with mashed potatoes and veggies. For $30, it was cubes of meat sitting on the plate in a soup of gravy. Tasted fine, nothing spectacular, but presentation was so awful it ruined the whole experience. For $30 I expect at least trying to make the food presentable.
I made reservations online and noted that it was for a birthday. They called the day before to get the name of the birthday person. It was a nice surprise to see all the staff greet us with huge smiles and happy birthday wishes. They even set balloons out on the table and printed a special personalized Happy Birthday message on the menus. The food was delicious!! The prime rib rolls were so tender and flavorful on the inside and light & crispy on the outside. We also had a fillet of succulent duck with candied oranges...yum!! We added lilikoi margaritas to it and called it a party. But still all of that goodness was topped off with lilikoi cream cheese and chocolate decadence pie slices, they were perfect! What made it even better was that all the staff got together and sang a nice upbeat Happy Birthday song to the tune of "Do-Wah-Diddy" while they brought out the dessert. Excellent experience!!
We found this restaurant by chance after a day at the Volcano. We decided it would be a perfect spot to celebrate my parents birthdays. Let me tell you, we were so right! Such an amazing experience! The food was absolutely amazing, some of the best I’ve ever had. Great drinks also. My parents loved the meal and they had decorated our table with balloons for their birthdays which was so thoughtful of them. We will definitely be back when we come back to the big island!
