Kilauea Lodge and Restaurant
Volcano Village is at 3700 feet elevation and evenings are often cool and misty. The historic fireplace welcomes guests with it's cheery fire. Home made soups and breads tease the appetite. Albert specializes in unusual game... antelope, rabbit, duck. The biggest sellers are local fish dishes; ahi, ono, mahimahi and the exotic Tristan lobster. A large wine list complements the eclectic menu.

This is one of our favorite restaurants on the big Island, our third time going over the last three years and the food and service remains great. The ambiance of the restaurant is great as well with a wonderful staff who are very attentive.
Unique ambiance. Service outstanding. Lilikoi (passion fruit) margaritas exceptional. Food first-rate.
The entrees were cooked perfectly. The vegetables were over cooked and mushy. The drinks were delicious. The wait staff was nice, but slow and after ordering dessert, she brought it to our table ready for carry out. It was awkward because it needed to be heated in a microwave and we were staying at their lodge that does not provide utinsils or microwaves. She kindly corrected the error and after another waiting period of several minutes, she returned and it was wonderful. With the brand new owners, we see this historical landmark, making some adjustments to make this place the best!
Great food, attentive staff and we were never rushed, even tho we lingered over every dish, dessert and drinks!
Stayed nearby. Ownership recently changed but clearly kept the staff. Food was solid. Nicely prepared fish. Desert coffee all terrific. Relaxed atmosphere
Aloha, Kilauea Lodge is a landmark in Volcano, Hawaii. Known for the great European food, full service menu as dinner includes salad or soup with fresh bread as well as veges & starch, nice. You can typically have venison, duck, antelope or something else exotic to eat, fun!
Volcano Village is up and running and this restaurant is a gem. Great people and food means we will return every chance we have.
Staying in Volcano and had a reservation to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Took recommendations from our server and everything was outstanding. Well prepared, great service, and excellent food! Mahalo!
great meal, as always. in fact, we returned the next day for lunch. food was amazing and service was terrific. always a favorite place to eat on the Big Island.
great food, excellent wait staff, overall great exerience
We enjoyed a very memorable meal in this cozy lodge. Even though it is summer now, the weather in Volcano Village was rainy and cool outside. The dessert was wonderful...a perfect coconut cake and chocolate cake.
So happy we made it here to the last dinner under Lorna and Albert's ownership. At our table we enjoyed fried brie and fried zucchini followed by rack of lamb, NY steak, seafood and pasta and all were superb. The signature lilikoi margarita is still the only non-traditional margarita I enjoy and we had several before and after dinner.
I hope the new owners keep the restaurant and menu intact because it is a special place with heart-warming comfort food, a welcome greeting from familiar faces for new friends and old and a lovely atmosphere - you always feel you've come home when you walk through the door. A mainstay in the community.
Great time. Had a 3.2 mag earthquake while there. Spent a day on the big island, saw the volcano devastation during a helicopter ride. We were proud to support the tourism on the big island. The staff was great and very helpful. Bought a couple of items in the gift shop. Highly recommend this restaurant.
It was for our 47th anniversary, they met us at the door complete surprise to my wife, told her Happy Anniversary, had a special table waiting. Service, food and everything was unbelievably great.
The baked brie was delicious. The potage soup was wonderful. The safari schnitzel was great.
Our waitress was great and so was the food. We all had something different and everything was good.
By far the least interesting meal so far after 6 nights on the Big Island. The ono fish special of the day was a nice portion, but overcooked so a bit dry. Macadamia nut topping nearly non-existent, making the dryness even worse. Came with a side of quinoa, fine but non-descript. No veggie. Soup (celery with coconut) was runny and lacked flavor.
Service was good, but we were hurried to order quickly, then courses came out right after another with no respite, obviously trying to get people in and out quickly. At $100 for 2 dinners, 1 cocktail, and tip, I didn't think it was worth it and wouldn't go back.
In Volcano, both the TukTuk food truck and Ohelo Café had better food and a fraction of the cost. And, both our dinners in Hilo were much more creative and flavorful and, again, even less money.
Very friendly service in a "lodge" type atmosphere. Food is solid... not inventive but well-prepared and provides comfort food after a long day hike in the park. They also give you salad or soup with your entree, in addition to 2 sides.
There aren't a lot of choices by Volcano National Park, so I would recommend Kilauea Lodge as probably as good as or better than other restaurants in the immediate vicinity. But nothing stands out as being memorable.
One of my favorite restaurants. The best place near Hilo. Excellent for special occasions and for a nice dinner out. Unique menu and very satisfying. Nice wine menu. Wish I could come here more often.
Great food and wonderful service! A must place to eat while staying in the Volcano area!
Wonderful service, incredible dishes and a comfortable rustic ambiance.
Great place our go to when in the area. Server Kalani was fantastic
Nice place for dinner. Almost everything about the lodge is excellent, except for the food. While very creative, my wife and I differ on the food. Her seafood dinner was excellent while my rib eye steak was average at best. Thin cut, gristly, not very tender and had average flavor. I would not order it again. Other items on the menu would be better choices. The dessert was excellent and the service was also excellent.
Great foods and kind service!
We were there to celebrate my B-day. I have never been made to feel this special at any restaurant before. We got there earlier than our RSVP and we sat in front of the fireplace with a beer for me and my wife a beautiful Lilikoi (passion fruit) margarita with a tasty red rim around the glass (not salt; not sugar): Think "Volcano". The place has a true "Aloha Spirit" throughout our entire evening. The hospitality is subtle, caring and was truly felt by us with nothing overdone. Two balloons were tied at our table and we appreciated no Happy B-day song. I ordered the German sausage plate with sauerkraut coupled with a Spaten Double Boch beer which was delicious. My wife enjoyed her New York steak w/sauteed mushrooms in a Nicole sauce which was perfectly prepared along with a Pinot Noir. My lime cheesecake came with a birthday candle and we also enjoyed a lovely bread pudding. We noticed several tables with balloons attached so this is a delightful place for Special Occasions. This was a raining, Thursday night and all the tables were full. We recommend reservations. When we revisit the Big Island, we will definitely return! Mahalo nui loa!
Great brie appetizer and drinks. The entrees were very enjoyable.
The lilikoi margaritas are the best on the island! My husband had the Safari Schnitzel and I had the lobster tails. Both were excellent! This is one of our Very Favorite places to eat! Worth the drive to Volcano.
Amazing Margarita from lilikoi. Fish was spectacular. Seafood pasta was outstanding.
We had an amazing meal! Everything that we had was fantastic - it ranged from the rabbit special to a fish pasta and none of us were disappointed by our meal. The service was wonderful, it was a very cozy and quaint atmosphere and a very enjoyable experience overall. We would definitely come back.
We stayed on the Kona side of the island and made a special trip to Volcano/Hilo so we could have dinner here! We first ate at the restaurant 4 years ago and visited it twice during our one week’s stay. Worth the drive!
Delicious food; great, friendly service. Relatively quiet for a restaurant. Be sure to check out the fireplace.
Had the New York Steak, very tender and the vegestable was cooked to just the right bite.
Nice place near volcano park.
The do have glutenfree options including bread and desserts.
Quite the enjoyable restaurant. Took my girlfriend here for dinner before I proposed that night and had no disappointments at all, altogether it rounded up the night well and I dont think there's anywhere else I'd would've rather had a nice meal before such a big moment
We went here twice while in Volcano. Food was delicious, well prepared and hot. Service was really friendly, timely and attentive. We would recommend this great restaurant for a super meal while at Volcano.
Everything was wonderful, as usual. Debbie (our server) could not have been any better and treated us so well. We've been coming here for over 15 years and every time is always great. Sheri (another server) always takes time to stop by our table to say hello. The staff is EXCELLENT and the food is always delicious. GREAT PLACE to eat and enjoy an evening by the fireplace.
It was our first night in Volcano, we had wonderful food with wonderful service in a wonderful atmosphere. Greatly recommended!
The server was fantastic. She was very busy but made sure our food was ordered and arrived in a timely way. The food itself was fine and presented well.
Excellent as always
Service and ambience were excellent. Food was mostly uninspired. My steak was cooked as ordered—medium rare—but was tasteless and seemed a low quality. My husband's rabbit was good. But overall, not a good value for what they charge.
