Kil@Wat Ratings and Reviews
I realize we were on a tight time frame to make the show across the street at 8 pm. However, but only offering apps and salads for dinner choice doesnt fly. My short ribs ended up being cold and you didnt offer everyone at the table a drink order when we sat down. I felt rushed the entire time. Also, water refills would have been nice at least once. Terrible experience. Too bad its really the only restaurant to walk to for our show.
The ambiance is great just as it has been in the past. We did go there for New Year's Eve and were only provided their set 5 course menu and had to ask for their regular menu. The seafood cavatappi was wonderful and everything was cooked spot on. My husband had the filet and ordered it medium-rare it came medium-well but our waitress was too busy to come back and check on us until we were both almost finished with our meals. My husband said there were parts of the steak that were a little closer to medium-rare but overall, not how he ordered it. He also ordered a drink and it didn't come until he was finished with his meal. I understand that it was a little busy due to the holiday but I feel like our waitress (Becky I believe) had too many tables and was unable to give the proper attention to each one. While it was good we probably won't return for some time as we had in the past, it would not be high on my recommendation list and I feel there are other spots downtown where you could get better service for roughly the same price.
This was our second time eating here. The first visit wasn’t bad, but the food wasn’t amazing for the price.
On the second visit the food was terrible. The roasted potatoes were as hard and crunchy as any raw potatoe. The lamb was cooked properly but absent of any flavor at all. The filet was ordered medium-rare, and it arrived at the table well done after a long period of waiting. None of the food was, and some of it was absolutely terrible.
The server was fine. I don’t have any real complaints about the service other than them only offering to comp one of our two meals. My wife literally didn’t even need to taste her steak to notice how burnt it was, so she didn’t eat at all. I had a couple bites of the bland lamb and two bites of the hardest potato ever served to a guest, and then stopped eating. I was really quite surprised that no manager ever came by the table after we complained about how poorly the food was prepared.
My wife and I will absolutely not be returning. There are far too many places to eat that actually know how to cook food properly.
The Original Big Boy hamburger took me back to my childhood! Delicious. I am stunned that my husband’s steak was cooked improperly TWICE! Came out COLD the first time and dry and overcooked the second time. How do you mess up a rare steak? To their credit, we were not charged. Will be back for Big Boy hamburgers and will continue to spread the word. Customer service is top notch.
Made reservations through Open Table 2 weeks prior. When we arrived we were shown to a table next to the kitchen. Asked for a different table. We were told there were no open tables next to the windows. We’re then shown to a table next to wait station. Asked again for a different table. The restaurant was pretty empty as it was 5:15. We’re finally given a table out of traffic. Our server was great. That’s the one plus. I ordered a Moscow mule. It arrived in a glass, not a copper mug. My husband’s wine came in a water glass. What? I had the bacon wrapped dates. The bacon was way over done. We both had the Hanger steak. It was tasty, however it was luke warm. Don’t think we’ll be back. Pretty disappointing.
The seafood entrée I had was relatively unique and very good. My girlfriends pork chop was cooked perfectly. I think that our waiter forgot about us or was too busy so our Big Boy appetizer was a bit dry, presumably from sitting under the heating lamps. Even at that it was still good. I indicated on our reservation that we would be celebrating my girlfriends birthday and they provided us with a delicious dessert to share. It was my first time there and I plan to come back. Overall the food and atmosphere were very good.
We waited 45 minutes for our appetizer which the server knew was too long so she offered to take it off our bill. We watched several couples that came in after us get their food before us. I ordered a flat bread pizza with goat cheese, caramelized onions and pears. The dough was raw and there were a few pears that I could find. They then took the flat bread and mounded arugula on top so I would not notice the missing toppings. I wanted to eat this with a beat salad. The salad was in a bowl of more arugula, no cheese, 4 quartered tiny beats and 2 grapes. I could not find any other toppings. Basically, we waited well over an hour so I could be served a bowl of arugula with raw dough. My husband lamb was thrown on the plate and tasted okay once you got past the poor presentation. Our empty glasses and plates sat on the table until we expressed our dissatisfaction to the manager. They took off the muscles, gave us a glass of wine on the house and did not charge for the flat bread I asked them to take off the table as I would not eat raw dough with no toppings. Never going back.
Wisely made a reservation for a Saturday brunch before the ballet. Wait staff was very kind, but we had several mistakes - food cooked not to order, bacon and not sausage, and a dropped dish. We all got to start eating at different times. Was a bit frustrating given how long we waited to get the food in the first place.
The host was very sweet and held our table, which was a perfect table for six, next to the window, after I called to say that we would be 25 minutes late due to traffic.
Our waitress was perfect! The staff waited on us hand over foot and got us to our ballet, across the street, in record time! (We made it a crunch in time for them, and they handled it for us perfectly!)
4 of us dined on a Tuesday night - we had a 6:30om and were seated promptly. Most tables were there for a pre-theater dinner and we pretty much had the place to ourselves by 7:15. Our waiter was odd - rather cavalier in his attentions which I think he thought was being cool....it wasn't. Their menu is small - but good selections of meat, fish and fowl. I had the Hanger Steak w/ Truffle French Fries $24) - very tasty. My friends ordered Braised Short Rib ($31), Pan-Roasted Chicken ($21) and Rushing Waters Trout ($22) and everyone was satisfied. We asked for dessert suggestions and out waiter steered us away from most of them - again trying to be 'cute.' We passed. The atmosphere is lovely, and you can actually have conversations in a normal voice - something that is getting harder and harder to find on the restaurant scene. Definitely recommend this place for dinner - and Sunday Brunch.
Mario was our server, and he was excellent! We had the pear and goat cheese flatbread to start. It was tasty, and completely loaded with arugula. I had the eggplant and polenta stack. It was a bit colder than I was expecting, but that is my only complaint of the night. My boyfriend had the bistro hanger steak which he enjoyed. The truffle fries were great! When we were hemming and hawing over to get dessert or not, he let it slip that it was my birthday, and Mario brought us a cheesecake and a creme brulee. Very great service and atmosphere!
We have been coming to Kil@wat for many years, It has become a tradition to dine here each year when we come to see the Rep's production of "A Chistmas Carol", and we have never been disappointed! It is the most perfect beginning to a memorable evening and the staff is always considerate to get us "to the show" on time, a very valuable and appreciated experience, not to mention the delightful and well prepared meals, for all tastes. See you next year!
Service was not the greatest this time. We had the pork chop and it was too well done and way too salty. Also the gnocchi was very overdone and dry. Ordered a Cosmo and the bartender made a lemony drink instead. Sent it back, and it appeared that they just added some cranberry juice to the drink. Really?!?! Waitress was not very attentive.
I do have an issue....and it's not just Kil@Wat, why is it when you 're seated, you are shown to THE WORST seating in the restaurant. I had a reservation for 2, at Kil@Wat for 5:30p.m. on a Tuesday evening (not even close to a busy time), and we were seated at a small, "Bistro" table for barely 2 people outside the kitchen door! The place was empty! My date was 6'2" and a large man. He would've been extremely uncomfortable in the original seating.
I requested another table, and was then seated at a lovely booth with a window overlooking Christmas lights on the street below.
We finished our meal, and the place was still empty when we left for the theater.
What's up with that?
Our breakfast for 4 was just perfect. We started with good Bloody Mary's and had time to relax. Two of our guests were visitors from Fl. and Az.. We then ate a great breakfast. Our service was perfect, Carrie, and timed for conversation. Thanks. Two of the group stayed at the hotel for 3 nights. Highly recommended!
