Ki Modern Japanese + Bar - Toronto Ratings and Reviews
We went to Ki on a Saturday evening. It was very cold and drafty and we froze throughout the meal. The service was mediocre. We had to ask for several things twice: the water, the pashmina shawl that the waiter said they had on hand for cold tables. My husband never got the dessert he ordered. I may return for a drink at the bar but not for a meal.
Although there were so many available tables when we were checkin right at our reservation time, the receptionist tried to settle us to a sushi bar. I didn’t understand why. After a couple of insists we were lucky to get a table. When we finished our meal, there were still empty tables though. Could someone please tell me what is the restaurant policy to place its guests to tables?
My children are Japanese and grew up eating some very good Japanese food so they really appreciated our family dinner at Ki. We loved the privacy of our table and the attentiveness of our server. We had a vegetarian in our group so we were very pleased with the options available to her.
It was very easy to reserve a table through Open Table. I was running late so I was able to push my reservation by one hour and Open Table And Ki Restaurant was able to accommodate my change in the reservation.
I went to the restaurant with a friend to celebrate the winter holidays. The menu selection was great for an omnivore like myself and the vegetarian like my friend. I was pleasantly surprised that the restaurant served uni (sea urchin) because not many Japanese restaurants offer it. So I was very happy to order it with another menu item. The plum sake portion was also a very generous serving in a wine glass.
We both had a great time and I do intend to go back! Thank you!
Service and food were great, especially Uni sashimi and toro. Very clean washroom with a nice couch in the ladies room. Skewers were however too big, one order of pork belly is the size of 3 orders from an authentic Japanese restaurant. Definitely not the most authentic Japanese restaurant but it was good overall.
The food and the atmosphere is excellent. Since we had a reservation, we enjoyed almost an empty room.
The food is excellent as usual. I am a vegetarian and there are a few things on the menu that were suitable for me.
I have been at the place several times and liked it at every visit.
Great service and unbelievable tasting experience - we left it up to the server to choose our dishes and she did not disappoint. I give a 10+ for the food presentation and taste. Everything was wonderful. Didn't think we would have room for dessert but had to try! The desserts are a piece of art in themselves - not too sweet but sweet enough to curb the sugar craving. Again, the presentation of the food (including the serving dishes and cutlery) is top-notch and the place was warm and inviting. We all loved it!!! Not one thing I would have changed!
My girlfriend and I went here for a birthday sushi dinner, and it was a very nice evening. All of the staff were very friendly, fast, and helpful. The food was very tasty and fresh. If you're looking for a high-quality sushi spot, and are willing to pay a premium for the experience and quality, then Ki is the right place to go!
Let me first start this off by saying that I cannot remember the last time that I wrote a restaurant review, so here goes nothing...
Firstly, I can’t comment on the quality of the food (there is no N/A option when rating) as we left before even placing our orders! Although we had reservations, we were sat in the lounge area and when I asked if we were able to sit in the dining area, I was rudely told that the dining area was only meant for guests with reservations. Did our reservations not count? Did I miss something here? Nowhere in my reservation confirmation did it say “lounge only seating”, otherwise I would have booked elsewhere. Following this lovely interaction, we were sat at a wobbly table and ignored, although the area in which we were seated was not busy and there appeared to be several servers. Nobody came over to greet us or to inquire if we wanted drinks or any of the usual things that occur after being shown to your table in a restaurant. My standards aren’t particularly high and I’m pretty sure that it’s reasonable to expect that the restaurant acknowledges your existence eventually. That didn’t happen. After a long enough wait, we decided to leave. I’m not sure exactly how long we were sitting there but there was enough time for my dinner companion and I to decide that we were disappointed and to look up several other restaurants nearby.
Oh and did I mention we were celebrating a birthday? I indicated this while making my reservation as well, which made the awful (non existent) service all the more disappointing!
Some interesting new combos -- maple with sushi; kiwi w tuna with nice use of traditional flavours like yuzu. Yummy Tiger shrimps & bits of scallops in a citrusy sauce.
However, sirloin hot plate was tough & chewy.
Hitachino beer is always a good accompaniment.
I have been to Ki several times over the last few years and it has never disappointed. The food is fresh and flavourful. The servers have always been great and the ambience is one of the best in the city. The prices are a bit high, but given the location, the atmosphere, and the quality of the food, you get what you pay for. I've been to the restaurant when it was empty and when it was crowded. It does get a bit loud when crowded, but which packed restaurant isn't noisy when crowded? Would highly recommend this place if you're into the overall experience.
