Southeast Asian

The Mekong River, or Khong, as it is referred to by locals, has long served as the central form of connectivity from the Tibetan Plateau down through Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. It brings together the people and their varying cultures while its banks and valleys create one of the world’s most biodiverse and fertile areas. This melding of disparate tastes, ingredients, and techniques has resulted in the bold, complex harmony that is the hallmark of authentic Southeast Asian cuisine.

We went to eat at Khong after hearing great things. The food was unimpressive. Our server was uninformed. When asked about the seasonal crudo he could not articulate anything other than it was with salmon. Moreover we could barely hear him describe the specials; basically he was weak and didn't help the experience. The edamame dumplings were underseasoned and the edamame fillings tasted undercooked. The crab fried rice was mushy, and the "English peas" were frozen not nice fresh seasonal spring peas as the menu insinuated. The place looked cool, and the menu was promising but everything fell short.

Their brunch menu is no good. They failed to mention Saturdays are brunch as well around 1 pm. I made a special request for my mom who is a cancer survivor and was her birthday. They did not get the request right. The waitress was extremely unhelpful and aloof. I won't return for brunch. $85 for a bad experience for TWO people.

The food is all right but not worth the price. We started off with the pot stickers, which tasted good but were burned--not just crispy, burned to the point where three of them were black. For my main plate, I got the trout, which was a bit bland. My mom got the duck curry, which was so salty that she had to send it back (which she had never done before, but this was inedible). She then ordered the larb, which also just didn't taste amazing. The service was great, but the food was just not worth it.

I was expecting a little bit more from Khong River House especially after dining at Swine. I had the crab fried rice and it was just okay. It was filled with crab meat and the crabs werent fishy but the rice lacked overall flavor. I also had the whole fried fish which was good.

Was expecting better. Ordered the tuna poke, spareribs, and duck massaman. Everything needed more seasoning. Poke could have also used a touch more soy and a touch less wasabi. Ribs were pretty good. Duck also needed more seasoning. Got the chocolate spring rolls with ice cream for dessert. Spring rolls had all bitter chocolate and wasn't quite sweet enough for a dessert. Great ambiance, and the service was pretty good. They do try to move tables along as our ordering which is annoying when spending nearly $200 after drinks.

Loved that they had small plates that we could share and sample. The 7 year old was a big fan of the whole fish. Definitely would recommend and will go back next time I am in Miami!

Although the waiter was very nice and well-intentioned. He did not oversee the delivery of our food. We had to cancel a dish because it did not come, as ordered, with the entree. Our appetizers came as expected and were delicious. But we had finished the entree before the fried rice dish was delivered. We had to call over another server to cancel the rice. Unfortunate because we were looking forward to trying that interesting dish. The bar area was very busy when we left. I will graciously suppose, the kitchen was overwhelmed!

The restaurant, food and service was great.. But the traffic to get there was almost unbearable. Unfortunately it's no fault of the restaurant but we had to valet 8 blocks away and had to walk to the restaurant. We got there 20 mins early and just finding parking or a valet it took 45 mins making us 25 minutes late. Yes 45 mins in bumper to bumper traffic frantically looking for parking.. Not fun.. Anyways I would highly recommend the restaurant but if you go on a Weekend night good luck!!

It's a shame for such a nice restaurant to have such fallout with service. Waiter came by once every 20 mins. Food came out over an hour after order. Mix up in kitchen to then have manager come over to drop off dish and not apologize nor acknowledge our inconvenience. Good was very good, but for the price and poor service I would not return. I feel bad for the waiter, it seemed he was overwhelmed with the amount of tables he was waiting and even more stressed knowing the kitchen was not keeping up with his orders . I am VERY disappointed. Waiter comped appetizer which salvaged some of the dignity for the restaurant, but I would have like the manager that worked over to show face. Not very happy.

This is supposed to be a Thai / Asian restaurant. There is NOTHING that arrived with even the remotest indication that the chef or anyone involved with the food preparation has ever tasted Thai (or South-East Asian) food. The appetizer, BURMESE RICE NOODLE WRAPS, came closest to having some Asian flavour (the peanut butter peanut sauce)... but it was topped with a dill garnish!!! WHAT???? The CAMBODIAN YELLOW CURRY (vegetarian) was a collection of unidentifiable mushy vegetables cooked in what must have been a sauce of 1 cup water, 5 tablespoons of corn starch, 1/2 teaspoon coconut milk, topped with a sprig of coriander. Absolute "Glock". Horrible. The THAI CRISPY DUCK was 2 pieces of dried-out duck legs, served with what the menu describes as a "chili orange emulsion". I won't even go there!!! The service was mediocre at best. Never once did the waiter ask us how the meal was. It was almost impossible to get his attention to order a beer. Never in my life have I tasted such bad restaurant food.

The cocktails are excellent (try the one with chili and cilantro). Some dishes were excellent, too - the vegetable curry was the best I've had. The Pad Thai and Spicy Papaya salad were also very good, although less exceptional. The service was very nice (we brought small kids with heavy jetlag, and while this did of course limit our experience of the restaurant, the servers dod what they could to help)

Loved the ambiance of the restaurant. The service was also great. The food on the other hand lacked flavor of all sorts. I ordered the crispy duck and a side of vegetable fried rice. The duck was good, but sat on top of bed of fried noodles. The amount of noodles to duck/vegetables ratio was terrible. I spent half the time digging and looking for the veggies in the dish. At the bottom of the dish was a pool of soy sauce that was extremely salty. Another thing that left a bad taste in my mouth was the fried rice. It lacked any flavor of sorts and was extremely bland. If it weren't for seeing the dish, I wouldn't have been able to differentiate between a bowl of white rice and the fried rice. For how much I paid, I was extremely disappointed. Having been to Thailand, as well as cooking many of these foods at home, I had higher expectations I hope the restaurant reevaluates the kitchen. Perhaps a taste test?

I went last January for my birthday at lunch and everything went almost smooth, except for the waiter disappearing and forgetting things. We were sitting in the back in a nice square table. I went back with my husband and we were very disappointed. That evening there was a very loud private party, so it was impossible to sit at the bar. They couldn't accomodate us at the table in the back, because we were "too early" and they kept repeating that. But how could we know that the place was such a mess. We got there earlier to have drinks at the bar! We left without even being able to let the hostess know, because she was too busy... I think they shouldn't accept other reservation while they have private events. Or at least they should warn them.

This is my second attempt at Khong river house. I vaguely remembered the first time around. Once we got seated it took about 15 min to be greated by anyone, luckily Im pretty patient and in good company. It took another 10 min to get some water. Although the server was very nice, everything just seemed to drag out. The appetizers took 30min to get to us, which we devoured because we'd already been there for close to an hour at that point. Then another wait for our main dish which was a fish and vegetable curry, which usually are not dishes that should take so long to make, unless they were catching the fish to order. The table near us sat down after us and was in and out well before we were. The food was good, but nowhere close to its hype for me to go back and experience the waiting game all over again.

The food was really dry and the noodles were very soggy. They served the whole table except for one dish that took more than 10 minutes to come. So we were al eating while one waiting for the food. The waitress was never clear in her explanations like she didn't know what she was doing. We didn't ask for the check and she brought anyway like she was sending us away and when we said we wanted dessert she said the kitchen was closed. I think she should have asked us if we wanted something before the kitchen closed. So we didn't feel welcome there. It was the 5th time we have been there and this never happened before. I don't if they changed the manager and the kitchen staff. Also it was lunch time, not dinner. So it wasn't like it was super late in the night.

This is always the risk - innovation is all very well, but sometimes it doesn't quite work. Take the Bacon Lobster Tomato salad - i am sure it seemed like a kool idea to have come up with the alternative L ingredient. 2 small problems - the pancetter is just not right for this, it is far too dense and chewy, even as a contrast for the soft and sweet lobster - it sticks to your teeth and takes such effort to chew that it makes far more of a presence than is required here. Imagine if it had been the regular, thinly sliced and crisply fried bacon that crunches and blends in - that would have worked much better. One would also have expected the lobster to have been the sweet tail meat, not mostly claw. That said, the dressing was great, ditto the tomatoes. I asked about the Yellow Curry which has a choice of veg or chicken and was told that it was not chicken on the bone but just pieces of (i assume breast ) meat. Shame, as anybody who knows anything about any kind of chicken curry would tell you - its gotta be on the bone! and I would expect a restaurant of this discerning level to go that one step further than the regular fare. The roast chicken however, was really tender and flavourful. Nice place, but perhaps a tad too expensive for what you get.

Asthetically pleasing, the noise level is too loud and the music doesn't fit the scene. Whoever, a very young graphic designer who created menus with detailed, unique descriptions, a must read, with a grey font on beige paper in a dim lit room should find a new career. The dumplings were doughy with chunks of pork and shrimp that should have been diced. But! The steamed fish and shrimp rice noodles had delicious blends of flavor, improving the experience to our delight. Our service was good, not great, but not too intrusive either - there's a fine balance. Reservations recommeneded. They make guests wait at the bar even though there are plenty of tables open. Oh, and there is a more quiet dining room in the back. We will return, perhaps on a weeknight when we desire Thai flavors.
