The Happy Valley Day Lodge is adjacent to a large public parking lot within easy walking distance to the Kettle Valley Steakhouse.
The Kettle Valley Steakhouse is located at the bottom of Lara"s Gondola, only a short ride down from the village. The Gondola runs until 10pm on most weeknights and 11pm on weekends.

We had never been to Big White before this past weekend's girls-getaway. We tried a different restaurant at a recommendation of the hotel front desk staff the first evening ... was underwhelmed by the food and was a little concerned that our top choices for dining were going to be pub-style establishments (nothing wrong with pub-style establishments, but when you are looking for more upscale dining, pub-style doesn't quite meet those needs).
After reviewing the descriptions of the various food venues on the Big White website, and looking at a few different menus, we settled on the Kettle Valley Steakhouse. And were we ever happy that we made that decision!
First off, the Kettle Valley Steakhouse takes reservations (online also, via OpenTable!). This is very nice, as there are some restaurants that don't take reservations, and it's not a great start to a meal when you show up and find out that it's going to be a minimum 30 minute wait and your only seat selection is beside a huge table with lots of children under 5. :-)
The location is so cool! At the bottom of the little Gondola that moves folks from the Village down to Happy Valley. As the Kettle Valley Steakhouse is located in the 2nd floor (upper level) of the Happy Valley Day Lodge, you have great views out of all the windows, and it is right next to the gondola entrance/exit -- VERY convenient! We watched some folks skating on the rink outside of the day lodge before dinner ... there was a little bonfire going, horse drawn sleigh rides and kids of all ages sledding down the little hill. What a lovely winter setting and scene!!
The service at Kettle Valley Steakhouse was outstanding. I have food allergies and the kitchen was extremely accommodating to ensure that there was no cross-contamination. The meal was incredible, the wine list met our needs (would be nice to have more selection of "by-the-glass" vino), and the ambiance was perfect. Will eat here again when we are next in Big White!!
We were the only people left in the restaurant on a Sunday evening and the service was slow throughout dinner just so they could rush us through our dessert and coffee, if we were going to catch the last Gondola before it closed. Not a great restaurant but good steaks for Big White.
Our meals varied in quality quite a bit. My wife had the pumpkin soup that she thought was great and the mushroom risotto which was ok - but certainly not great. I had the fresh pan seared foie gras, which by itself was great, but the tart mango accompaniment was not a good pairing at all. Having had fresh foie gras in France on a number of occasions, this could have been better paired with some local pear or apple sauce. Most disappointing was my strip loin steak. Cooked to my request (medium), it was tough, a bit dry and lacked flavour. I don't think they used any seasoning on the steak at all! No salt, pepper or garlic (my three mandatory steak seasonings). Nor did it appear that the steak was oiled before being pan seared (not flamed or broiled) whiched added to the dryness.
This place has lots of potential and could be so much more and that is why I would still recommend. Also given the slim pickings at Big White you don't have much choice.
Keep your expectations low, and turn a blind eye to the price and you could come out ok!
This on-mountain restaurant has been a favorite for special occasions for years. The sommelier knows the menu and the cellar to make great pairings. The staff are attentive, courteous, and mostly avoid interrupting the flow of conversation. Meals include herbs grown on the premises. I cannot fault prices being slightly higher than similar meals in a city, because the cost of operating a business on a ski mountain resort are expected to be higher.
We ate here at the beginning of our holiday for a Birthday, so for the last night we needed to pick somewhere, as it was so good the first time we went back, again the food, mainly steaks for us were superb, flavoursome and cooked to perfection, excellent service and wine list! Just go.
We booked ahead (a must) for a birthday celebration. The tables are nicely presented, crisp white table linen, spotless glass's and cutlery. Our waiter was great, attentive but not intrusive. The food was excellent, the steaks were very tender and cooked to perfection. The Tomahawk steak is a must, cooked medium rare, carved at the table, cant be beaten. All in a great restaurant, we'd go back for sure.
My husband and I got the Blind trust with cocktails. Everyone from the chef, bartender and server exceeded our expectations! The food was the best we have ever had, And we loved how knowledgeable the server was when he was explaining what we were being served. Words can not even describe how amazing every course was. Not one complaint! Wish we had this in Winnipeg! Will definitely be back when we visit Big White again!
Very good food but the lights are too bright, you feel you are in a cafeteria. The service is very professional and good. Our waiter was friendly and knows well the menu and the wine list. The restaurant just need to have more ambiance with candlelight and less bright lights.
This is a must when staying on the mountain at Big White.

An awesome menu PLUS if you share a plate they are generous on pre-plating for you.
The Split p soup was amazing and the Oysters were fresh and served on a bed of rock salt with raw horseradish, lemon and a balsamic.
A notable BC Wine list starting at $42 a bottle but if you are looking for that special wine, they probably have it.
Sparkling by the glass for a pre-dinner apres ski pick me up.
The Prime rib was cooked to a perfect medium rare and the veggies were plated and cooked to perfection.
Sadly we were too full for desert but might pop in one day to make up for that.
Can't wait to return.

Lovely meal and had a great seat to watch the fireworks. Steaks were excellent. The only downside was some of their wines were not available. After advertising an extensive wine list this was a little disappointing. Not cheap but good value and we enjoyed our meal.
Service was very good, friendly, etc. Our table was tucked, with others, around a corner from the main area, a kind of 'adults only' section - good idea. Decor was very bland, boring, even for a mountain-side facility. Menu options looked pretty good on paper but food disappointed, e.g. chicken supreme: bone-in chicken lying in yellow broth; filet mignon: requested 'medium' but came 'well done+' on one side and 'rare' in the middle; almost non-existant vegetable selection. The restaurant claims to be the best in Big White - if that's the case then I'm glad we stayed in and prepared our own meals for the rest of the stay.
My wife and I visited the Kettle Valley steakhouse during our last winter ski vacation with one other couple. We typically eat here once per ski season during our weekly ski vacation out to BW. This year they have a Blind Trust option which is a chefs tasting menu option. At $89 per person ($139 with wine parings) for 7 courses, this is a very good value in comparison to other tastings we have done. I think we lucked out a bit as the night before they were holding some promotional wine night for vendors and reps or something so we ended up getting to enjoy a 125g tin of Northern Caviar as one of the courses. There was also fresh Oysters to start and a foie gras course. This is a steakhouse so getting me to order anything but a steak (of various red meat cuts) can be difficult. You won’t be disappointed in the steaks, nor the Blind Trust.
Thank you all so much for a wonderful night. My girlfriend and I had the greatest dining experience we've ever had, the food was fantastic and it was exciting to order the Blind Trust with wine parings from the menu. Literally everything I put in that little message box you all managed to do for me which made me feel extremely grateful. Everyone who works their is very respectful and professional. Shout out to the chef for cooking that amazing meal and to the staff who made us feel like a million bucks.
Excellent service and food. We celebrated an anniversary tonight, and felt that the staff did everything to make it special. We started with yummy Caesars made table side. For appetizer, we ordered the small seafood platter. The clams and mussels were overcooked and cold, but the crab, large colossal prawns, and oysters made up for it. Then we shared a 16 oz new york steak with a side of prawns and potatoes gratin. Outstanding meal. We didn't need the gratin, as it ended up being too much food. We paired the meal with a delicious Church and State Syrah from Oliver. For dessert, my husband ordered the chocolate bomb, which he loved, and i had the table side crepe suzette. Fantastic meal. Fantastic service. We will be back.

My bill was incorrect including a charge for wine that I did not drink (it was my table mate's). Hard to get out as waiter busy with other tables. No doubt these kinks will be worked out - just detracted from the enjoyment of the evng.
My family has now dined here twice and both experiences were substandard. This visit all three of our appetizers were luke warm at best. It is hard to describe the consistency of luke warm bone marrow, but it is unappealing.
The menu states that they serve "Cetifies Angus Beef" that exceeds U.S. Prime and Canadian AAA grade beef. I can assure you my 3/4 inch thick, fat laced N.Y. Strip steak was not prime, let alone choice. It was over cooked and served on a pool of lumpy mashed potatoes.
I suspect the problem is that the kitchen also serves the bar next to it in the same building. The kitchen is probably staffed with a few line cooks qualified to make hamburgers and chicken wings, but not the higher priced fine dining fare served in the steakhouse.
This is the second disappointing experience we have had here, and will certainly not be returning.
The problem with the steakhouse is consistency of service. We were there on a pretty quiet night yet the service was OK. Dumb things like pouring my wine ahead of my wife's. They always just seem somewhat indifferent. While I know the staff is transient due to the nature of the ski hill I would think the owners after all these years would have better trained staff. And while it wasn't bad service, it was just ok. My prime rib was tasty it was barely warm. My wife liked her fish, but the wild mushrooms side for the prime rib left something to be desired and the French onion soup tasty sweet, which just seemed wrong. On a scale of 1-10 it came in at around 6.5.
The ambience is terrible. The room is large, with high ceilings & badly decorated. It feels like you're having dinner in a barn., back in the 70s. The food is fine - not outstanding. The washroom do not add to the "fine dining experience" as they are the public washrooms in the basement of the ski lodge - another downer. I won't go back or recommend.
Nothing but good to say about this restaurant. My steak was cooked perfect as was the halibut. My wife said it was the best fish she has ever had!! We eat out a lot and have had some very poor experiences but not here. Overall, this was a 10. The side of prawns is a "must have"!!
