We are English owners of a condo here and had been given a $100 voucher by BWCR to the Kettle Valley restaurant for upgrading our WiFi. We were looking forward to having a good meal. Sadly, we were very disappointed. First, your wines are extremely expensive, with the cheapest at $48 before tax! We decided on a bottle of Sandhill Estate ‘Sandhill’ 2014 Cabernet Merlot at £56 as the waitress recommended it. It was nice, but very expensive for what it was. We ordered an appetiser of warm olives to start with and were only halfway through them when our main course arrived!! Not good timing. I had ordered a ‘rare’ Filet Mignon, which was good but the mashed potatoe and vegetables were cold! My husband ordered the 16oz Prime Rib, which looked delicious, but unfortunately both the meat and the vegetables were cold!! We did complain about this and Kettle Valley said that he wouldn’t have to pay for his main course, which was quite right, but he would have enjoyed the meal had everything been the right temperature. I do think that the restaurant could do so much more to enhance the ambience - there is nothing cosy or intimate about it all. The curtains are a plain dull dark red, with dark walls, black vinyl flooring (in a supposed high-end restaurant!), and rather bad lighting. The restaurant and the experience could have been so much better and we were glad that we didn’t have to pay much as a result of our voucher and not having to pay for my husband’s main course. We won’t recommend it unless it is improved.

Best restaurant in Big White! Excellent fine dining cuisine in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Food very well presented, perfect combination of flavours, it blew us away. Service was great. Only downside is the bathrooms are the same as the ski lodge and were not cleaned before dinner service. Really takes away from the fine dining vibe. If they had their own private washrooms, the whole experience would certainly be a 10/10.

Great service , food was excellent . One of our steaks wasn't cooked to our liking and they took it off the bill without complaining or asking.

This is our third time to Kettle Valley Steakhouse. While there are good things about this place, the quality and consistency of the food is disappointing. Especially for the prices. I would guess that some menu items are better than others, hence the variety of the reviews. We were four people who enjoyed most of the meal, but wouldn't consider it worthy of a return visit - there are better options on the mountain.

The food was good the wine list was about average and the service was very slow. But as it’s one of the few places at the resort you don’t have a lot of choice.

This was our second time at the restaurant in our four day visit to Big White. We had the $39 special for three courses - exactly what I would have had off the menu! The food was excellent. Great value too. Nice local wine list.

Starting with cocktails, The Hummingbird sets the mood that a fun night is in store. Outstanding ambience, service (Matt), food (3 Courses Special for $39; Caesar Salad, Tenderloin, {and both the bread pudding and chocolate desserts} were no-brainers), and wine selection (Sandhill Bordeaux) is at the foot of the gondolas located inside the Happy Valley Lodge. Reservations are recommended.

The steaks were delicious- 3 variations ordered among the 4 guests, all perfectly cooked to order, but the appetizers were disappointing- little to no dressing on the wedge salads; little cheese on the French onion soup.
The service was unbelievably slow, with no updates or apologies.
The space itself has no charm - feels like a refurbished ski lodge cafeteria

No ambiance - it is like a dressed up cafeteria.
No music being played until 10 minutes before we left, and we were there for 2.5 hours.
Ridiculously slow kitchen!
Caesar salad was a joke - just baby romaine with some oil and a few spices thrown on it. Not a Caesar salad in any form.

Even though we get a discount with our season ski pass, we will never go back.

Four adults for the $39 deal, plus 2 children that had fabulous choices, filet mignon & chicken breast. No chicken fingers, grilled cheese, awesome for the kids. Wait staff was great. Our server, Corinne, when the bill was presented told us gratuity was included, have been burned by that before.
We live at Big White for the winter, so will be sure to return with other visitors.

My steak came to me tuff and not cooked how I had asked. Our waitress was very apologetic and tried to accommodate us the best she could. By the time my meal was re-made and brought to me, my daughter had finished her meal.. my side's I ordered for my meal were cold. I ended up asking for a container and we left.

I've gone on many Open Table dinners, never left a review, most restaurants were good to very good, this one was supposed to be a high-end deal at a ski resort. It was $700 (with tip) for my 4 kids and me, the food was simply BAD, we had much better food at the pizza and the Thai joints.

We had never been to Big White before this past weekend's girls-getaway. We tried a different restaurant at a recommendation of the hotel front desk staff the first evening ... was underwhelmed by the food and was a little concerned that our top choices for dining were going to be pub-style establishments (nothing wrong with pub-style establishments, but when you are looking for more upscale dining, pub-style doesn't quite meet those needs).

After reviewing the descriptions of the various food venues on the Big White website, and looking at a few different menus, we settled on the Kettle Valley Steakhouse. And were we ever happy that we made that decision!

First off, the Kettle Valley Steakhouse takes reservations (online also, via OpenTable!). This is very nice, as there are some restaurants that don't take reservations, and it's not a great start to a meal when you show up and find out that it's going to be a minimum 30 minute wait and your only seat selection is beside a huge table with lots of children under 5. :-)

The location is so cool! At the bottom of the little Gondola that moves folks from the Village down to Happy Valley. As the Kettle Valley Steakhouse is located in the 2nd floor (upper level) of the Happy Valley Day Lodge, you have great views out of all the windows, and it is right next to the gondola entrance/exit -- VERY convenient! We watched some folks skating on the rink outside of the day lodge before dinner ... there was a little bonfire going, horse drawn sleigh rides and kids of all ages sledding down the little hill. What a lovely winter setting and scene!!

The service at Kettle Valley Steakhouse was outstanding. I have food allergies and the kitchen was extremely accommodating to ensure that there was no cross-contamination. The meal was incredible, the wine list met our needs (would be nice to have more selection of "by-the-glass" vino), and the ambiance was perfect. Will eat here again when we are next in Big White!!

We were the only people left in the restaurant on a Sunday evening and the service was slow throughout dinner just so they could rush us through our dessert and coffee, if we were going to catch the last Gondola before it closed. Not a great restaurant but good steaks for Big White.

Our meals varied in quality quite a bit. My wife had the pumpkin soup that she thought was great and the mushroom risotto which was ok - but certainly not great. I had the fresh pan seared foie gras, which by itself was great, but the tart mango accompaniment was not a good pairing at all. Having had fresh foie gras in France on a number of occasions, this could have been better paired with some local pear or apple sauce. Most disappointing was my strip loin steak. Cooked to my request (medium), it was tough, a bit dry and lacked flavour. I don't think they used any seasoning on the steak at all! No salt, pepper or garlic (my three mandatory steak seasonings). Nor did it appear that the steak was oiled before being pan seared (not flamed or broiled) whiched added to the dryness.

This place has lots of potential and could be so much more and that is why I would still recommend. Also given the slim pickings at Big White you don't have much choice.

Keep your expectations low, and turn a blind eye to the price and you could come out ok!
