We found this place by searching on Google for a restaurant in Fredericksburg. What a gem we found. Cozy atmosphere, excellent food, exceptional service and a great cocktails. The scallops were huge and cooked to perfection. The men got the short ribs and pasta and loved it too. After our meal, we sat at the bar and tried different cocktails which were all really good. The people here are very friendly. We will definitely come back and also tell our friends.

The food was very good but the service was exceedingly slow especially for early on a night where the restaurant wasn't busy. The patio was nice but the mosquitoes were bad. Overall a bit disappointing.

Kenmore Inn is a hidden jewel in a town otherwise barren for upscale dining.

Loved the setting. The food was subpar though. We had high hopes and were underwhelmed. The watermelon salad looked like it was just thrown on the plate, the gazpacho had very little taste and the filet mignon was overcooked (although it was a nice cut of meat). We didn't get dessert given we weren't impressed with the meal. I would recommend going to the bar or sitting outside for a drink but for the price, there are better tasting restaurants in the area.

Although we knew that we would be eating on the lower level, we never expected the restaurant to actually be in the basement. Even with a wall of windows, it felt dark and dungon like. It would be better suited to serving bar food.

My mother, sister, and I were hunting for a quiet but special place to have dinner, since we were only reunited for one night and had a lot of catching up to do. Being last-minute on an extremely busy Saturday night, we went to several restaurants and were turned away. We stumbled across this gem, and what a wonderful experience it was! Sit outside - the atmosphere is quiet, cozy, and charming out there, and the live music can still be enjoyed, without it being too loud for conversation. Would definitely visit here again!

Blown away by how good this place has become. Food is fresh and wonderfully delicious. They source ingredients from local farmers. The tomatoes reminded me of the ones my grandma in WV would grow. Can't wait to go again!

We ate in the courtyard, because the inside dining areas were quite noisy. Glad we did, as the weather was just wonderful and the ambiance delightful. The choices for Restaurant Week were very good-- 4 of us each got a different entrée, and all of them were delicious.

We had a reservation & were seated as soon as we arrived. Our server greeted us & took our drink orders then disappeared. After 5 or 10 minutes, a group of seven arrived & was seated @ a table near us. They placed drink orders & WERE SERVED BEFORE US. We didn't order anything strange (I had the 'special' cocktail & my husband a beer), so this was really frustrating. My husband actually went over to the bar (our server was no where in sight) & we finally got our drinks. Our food order was taken & food was served, but I'm afraid our server wasn't please with us & she didn't apologize for our sitting @ the table drinking water (that our hostess provided) for TWENTY minutes (while the diners near us who arrived & ordered drinks AFTER us enjoyed their cocktails). We have always enjoyed this restaurant, but aren't planning to return.

Beautiful, and in-town location. The food is always delicious, and the courtyard gives the feeling of being in a European town.

Went for a wedding anniversary. Ended up being restaurant week. Very disappointed in almost every way. Nice ambiance and outdoor patio. Menu was lackluster and the food subpar, even taking into account restaurant week. Took 20 minutes to get a glass of wine when there were, maybe, 7 other tables. Will not be back

The scallops were very good and the salad was fresh. The waiting staff was a little sluggish, took a while to get our glasses refilled and to have condiments brought to the table. Beautiful setting and love the historic building.

We were greeted at the door and escorted to our table. We enjoyed the tail end of a instrumental quartet. Our drinks came quickly. We had the opportunity to enjoy the restaurant week menu. We thoroughly enjoyed the grilled watermelon, prosciutto, arugula salad. The braised short ribs with green beans and mashed potatoes were fantastic. The trio of desert samples of key lime pie, bread pudding, and white chocolate mouse were perfect. We had attentive service that gave us time to enjoy each course.

Easter Sunday brunch with reservations and a moderate crowd, the wait time for the food was unacceptable (1.5 hours). The food ranged from very good to excellent. Of the three desert items offered, two were very good and one was uneatable. The Macaroons were so hard, they could not be cut with a knife .

Overall experience was good. Will return, but will be much more selective with menu selections.

2 of 3 entrees were unsatisfactory. Fried chicken seemed to be dredged in as much salt as flour. Did not eat the coating. Ordered ribeye was well done not medium as requested and portion was small for the price . Salads ordered were the size of side salad and priced at what a full salad would cost at similar restaurants. Kitchen is very slow. More than 30 minutes elapsed between end of first course and serving of second (entrée) course. There are better restaurants within walking distance of this one in F'bg VA.

We dined with two other couples. We arrived early and went to the bar. Very quaint and friendly atmosphere. Specialty drinks were delicious. Staff was super friendly and accommodating. When all arrived we moved to the dining room. Service was exemplary and food wonderful. A salad was forgotten and it was brought out free of charge so our dining experience would be complete. We would highly recommend the Kenmore Inn!

The Kenmore Inn's special Valentine's Day menu was great, except for the "Red Velvet" cake dessert. The cake's icing was too sweet. The Cherry Pie, however, was fantastic. The guitarist was excellent!

There should be communication between venue and open table when a fixed menu is the only option. This restaurant was observing valentines day and we drove for 2 hours not knowing. The food was excellent but not for the price paid. Service TERRIBLE.

Was awkwardly silent for half of our meal until they realized that and turned on some music, which was country rock, and didn't really fit the mood and atmosphere of the place. I found the food to too expensive for the portion sizes and overly salted. The server was very sweet and attentive, but the only real value of this establishment is to go for a good cocktail at the bar and for the civil war history behind the place. It's unfortunate because I feel that it could be so much more! Did not have that down home comforting vibe you would expect of a B&B. Again, would only recommend for cocktails. I left feeling hungry if that gives you any idea of the portion size.

 (Des Moines)·Dined on August 18, 2016

We love the Kenmore Inn on live music nights for an al fresco summer evening date. The patio, while small, is lovely; it's below street level and partially covered with a tree canopy draped in white Christmas lights, with a bubbling fountain in the center to complete the picturesque intimacy. The inside dining area (also quite small) is too chilly and loud for our tastes, but out on the patio, the music volume is just right and the temperature comfortable when Mother Nature cooperates. The service is outstanding, and the food is very good and fairly priced when you factor in the free entertainment. The only real criticisms we had on this particular visit were the lack of a sauce or salsa being served with the tacos, and the lack of salt and pepper shakers on the table or an offer of fresh ground pepper for our salads. Both issues were quickly and graciously resolved by our servers, and the food was greatly enhanced by those minor additions.

The Kenmore Inn is somewhat of an institution in Old Town Fredericksburg, so we're very sad to see it in such a state of decay. Dinners at the Kenmore Inn have been relegated to the basement, both literally and figuratively. The main dining room is beautifully decorated, but seems to be used only for breakfast now. Dinners are served in the basement ( in a refinished garage), adjacent to the bar - which, thankfully, was fairly quiet the night of our dinner. Our server was woefully inexperienced, pressing for our dinner orders even before he could find us a wine menu! Dinner menus were printed on plain white paper, and were slightly wet -- as our server had to borrow from other (empty) tables to find two copies. The wine was expensive -- $60 for a bottle of chardonnay with a twist-off lid. Our salads tasted fine, except for the croutons, which were burned on one side and tasted vaguely like gas. Our main course was fine, as well, but the crab cakes should have been called "crab medallions," as they were very small. Overall, it wasn't a horrible experience -- we had the whole basement to ourselves -- and the classic-rock music on the speakers was at a modest volume -- but this isn't the same Kenmore Inn that existed even five years ago.

Waited an hour before the food finally arrived; all dishes were cold (not even warm), despite telling the server/manager we do not want cold food before ordering. Requested medium rare steak was cooked to well-well-done (shoe leather well done). Sent food back, and new ones came out in 15 minutes (which is good). One wonders why did it take an hour the first time around??

Server/Manager had an attitude - she proceeded to throw the chef under the bus and offered no apologies whatsoever to us. Other restaurants would have either comp the meal or provide a discount - not this place. Will never go back again!!!!!

We decided to try this restaurant during the local "Restaurant Week". Food and service were good but not outstanding. There was a wedding reception ongoing at the time of our dinner reservations, and most of the servers and staff were devoted to the larger group. Pleasant views in the main dining room looking out on the garden. A good value for restaurant week but not for everyday dining.

Tried this spot during Restaurant Week. The biggest rip off ever! For $20 you got a salad on a saucer sized plate, and a tapas sized portion of an entre. Food was not good. Service was horrible and slow. After we finished, we literally went somewhere else for a REAL dinner. Waste of money and time. I would never recommend or return.
