Kendall College Dining Room Ratings and Reviews
I was disappointed. I have been eating there for years. The food was good but the portions were inconsistent. My entree steak was huge and perfect. My son’s entree “seafood boil” contained 3 small shrimp and 3 small clams. Hardly an entree ,an appetizer maybe. I pointed it out to the waiter and the host and was told that’s how it comes. My son ate half my steak.
Since Pam left they seem to have lost the niceties. No one offered to Check our coats, no intermezzo was served and no chocolates after the meal. Small touches but I noticed.
I changed my Open Table reservation, but the date was incorrect so we didn't have a reservation when we showed up. Thankfully, the staff accommodated us and got us a table after only a slight delay.
We went to celebrate our children's birthdays (18 and 21) after seeing a show at Water Tower Place. Ambiance is great, nice views of the city, fantastic staff, and amazing food.
My daughter is an aspiring pastry chef and was thrilled to see the open kitchen. Every course was #pictureworthy, making for a wonderful conclusion to our day in the city.
We enjoy bringing friends here to see there response when they walk into the dining room and see the students and staff at work and then to notice the great view of the city. The creative changing menu has never failed to please. Also, in the evening and weekends the parking is free.
We took two friends to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. They were amazed at the quality of the food and the variety. We have enjoyed the Kendall College Dining Room for several years and have never been disappointed.
One word of caution, however, you have to be patient. Your server may be someone who has never waited table before, or who has not had a history of fine dining. That goes for the bartender, also. Letting things happen unhurriedly will have great rewards.
First of all, it was interesting. Expectations should be low, since this is not a professional restaurant. Some things were good, some were not, but it was fun discussing what these students are trying to do.
They need more vegetables on the plate, though. It was all protein/starch ...
I would have given this place one star but the dessert was redeeming. I am surprised at all the great reviews! We visited this place because of them and were very disappointed. The beef was slopped on a plate with no flavor. I also told them I had a food allergy and they showed me a label and said it only contained traces of the food which could actually make me die. An allergy means you can’t have it at all. This has never happened in any dining experience (even low end). We really wanted to like this place but it feel extremely short.
Great value for amazing food- 3 courses for $29! The dining room is really pretty and the students try really hard to please their customers. They wrote: Happy 20th Anniversary on our dessert plates and gave us an extra first course and dinner entree . What a nice touch!
This place is a gem. Its has all the makings of fine dining including a beautiful space, full bar, views, and well crafted food. It lacks the execution of a fine dining experience and therefore would not be ideal for business or a serious date. However if you want Michelin quality at an unbeatable price this spot delivers.
I have been going to the Dining Room for a long time. It has been such a culinary treasure. I tell people about how much I like it there all the time. I love to cook and bake myself and sometimes a dish is so good I ask for the recipe and most times I get it. Thank you
I have had food there that I have not tried before, always with great results. Keep up the fabulous work with your students.
We had been to Kendall a few years back and enjoyed the entire experience. Being a Chicago native and teacher myself I especially enjoyed watching the teachers and students interact.
The students were eager to please and very polite and accommodating. Was fun watching the food prep through the glass observation area as well. The dining room is clean and spacious with very nice views of the real "Chicago" I remember as a kid.
A trip down memory lane, delicious food, a gracious atmosphere..what more can you ask for when visiting Chicago!
We will be back and we will recommend Kendall to all our friends.
I took my friend here for his birthday and we had a perfect evening. Our server was a little Asian lady, and she was clearly nervous, but really did an amazing job, considering. You could tell this was very important to her, and she explained things as best she could, and poured our wine the best she could, and her teacher was there to help, which I appreciated seeing. The food was stellar, (we tried the student's special), the scenery was very classy, and I enjoyed watching the students operating. They all take it very seriously, and the quality of the food reflected their work ethic. It was an amazing evening.
We always enjoy the atmosphere , the food, and the staff
We don’t understand why we have to sit downstairs until the exact time of the reservation. We live 60 miles away and hard to get there exactly in time. We usually are 25 to 30 minutes early.
I’ve wanted to dine at the Kendall College Dining Room for many years. As a teaching location, we learned from the pointers that were given to the students waiting on us.
I’ve never had a meal where every bite was so flavorful - it is almost overwhelming! But very delicious. So recommended.
Very enjoyable. I introduced a friend to the afternoon dining room. She absolutely loved it. Food was very good with just a couple of stumbles. The server did his best but after all, he is learning. Hopefully he will become more comfortable with the process. Overall, I thought it was better than a recent Monday night dining-series experience.
Kendall College luncheon dining is a hidden treasure! The choices for the 1st course and entree are wide and varied. Each presentation was top flight, and what a bargain price point! I enjoy bringing friends here for their first time. We look forward to your next session's menu. Keep up the outstanding "internship" for future restauranteurs.
Enjoyed an amazing lunch with my friend. The food was extremely satisfying. The lunch menu offers an interesting variety. The students created amazing dish from seasonal ingredients, the combinations were interesting and the fusion of flavor were refreshing. The portion sizes were perfect for a busy lunch. I truly must commend the wait staff for their patience. My lunch companion was very fussy and she really hassled the staff about the drinks that were offered during lunch. However, the wait staff was very accommodating. She was dissatisfied with her first drink, so they replaced her drink and offered her many off the menu drink options. They tried to make sure that she was satisfied and they worked over and above what was necessary. I enjoyed every morsel and so did my companion once she realized that the food was superb. Especially, the banana cardamom creme brulee. I've been a patron of Kendall for many years and the quality of the food is always top notch. The staff is well trained and very accommodating. The is a place for five-star food that won't break the bank.
The 4 stars for food is only because the desserts very highly disappointing. The starter and the main were fantastic and deserve 5 stars. 1 star for the dessert. Highly unimaginative like a slightly refined version of a diner.
The savory food, on the contrary, was beautifully prepared with excellent flavor balance and spot on cooking temperatures. I will go back for sure and probably skip the prix fixe so I can save all my appetite for the delicious entrees.
Kendall College dining experience was WONDERFUL. Food was fantastic! The staff was very professional and considerate. Choices of food were interesting. Would definitely recommend this place to all of my friends and family. Look forward to going again. Will bring a group with to share.
Excellent meal, terrific service & wonderful view of the city & the kitchen where the students are preparing your food! Also great that they have "free parking".
Fantastic service--especially as when I came out I had a flat tire. The receptionist called two of their maintenance men & they were outstanding! Changed my tire for me in minutes & brought a hydraulic lift. Knew exactly what to do & I made it to my appointment downtown with 5 minutes to spare!
Can't wait to go back! Everyone is so customer service oriented!
The waitstaff was wonderful! They were students in training, however I received better service than I did last week while dining at a seafood chain in Atlanta. The best dishes were the salmon and the wild shrimp salad. I made a reservation the day prior. The day of the reservation , James called several hours before the reservation to confirm and inquire if anyone had a good allergy! Great service. Thanks!
