The musicians circle playing on Sunday evening was a delight, and took us right back to our time in a small pub in Scotland where the local folk music group gathered to play. Wonderful! The occasional dancing was a treat!
So much fun feeling the Irish ambiance as St Patrick’s day approaches. Consistently great food, especially the Sticky Toffee Pudding. Save room for that!
Went here for my brother's bachelor party and had a great meal and great drinks. Cigars in the basement. It was a great atmosphere with friendly and helpful employees. Our table was ready even though we showed up early.
I am very familiar with the Kells Irish Pub in Seattle and have visited the Portland location before so I expect a standard. This time didn't quite live up to that standard however it will not stop me from visiting again. The pluses were the taste of the corned beef and cabbage with bacon and the Irish Coffee was smooth and excellent tasting. Our server was very nice and accommodating.
Minuses were the missing reservation, the cold mashed potatoes, the salmon Caesar salad served without the salmon that still never came in spite of pointing out the salmon was absent, a couple of whiskeys and a beer on the menu that were not available, somewhat slow service.
In spite of the fact that the hostess could not find our open table reservation it wasn't that busy so we were able to be seated in a really cool booth which made it alright.
What a wonderful time we had at Kell's this past weekend. It is a traditional Irish Pub -- one that brews its own beer -- and also has a very neat Cigar room in the basement. I would highly recommend at least getting a drink down there.
I have been to Kell's several times and always enjoy it. Like most people in PDX, I have become partial to drinking an IPA. This time I went with their house brewed stout and it was fantastic. The beer was very smooth and tasty.
If you like Irish pub food and like good beer, Kell's is a great spot. Unfortunately our meal was done before the music started. Regardless, it was a great amount of fun.
My Boyfriend and I reserved a table for Valentines Day and we had an awesome experience. We were initially seated at a table and a very nice gentleman approached us and asked us if we wanted a booth. We ordered the BBQ Wings infused with Jameson Whiskey & THEY ARE THE BEST WINGS we have ever had. My boyfriend ordered the BLT with fries and I ordered the corned beef and cabbage with mashed potatoes. The food was absolutely amazing and the corned beef was soft and juicy! We had the Toffee Pudding with ice cream for desert and it was also fantastic! Their Drinks are great too! I give Kells a 5 Star rating all the way! And I will recommend everyone I know to try their wings & their amazing service! Thank you Kells Irish Restaurant & Pub Staff for hosting a special night for me and my Loved one.
Good food. Visited from Canada, friendly waiter, thank you. I do not remember the name of the waiter on Sunday night 10pm on Feb 11 - thanks. Will come back.
Dined before going to a local concert. Good location for get together, and the food was very good, the service excellent. Will come again.
Great place to have a business lunch offering a level of privacy. Quality service & yummy food.
We walked and were greeted warmly, asked where we would like to be and seated in a great booth. The host checked in with us throughout the evening and shared a bit of conversation. We felt very welcome, the food and drinks were excellent and the music was lively. I will definitely go again soon.
What a lively place for dinner on New Year's Eve! There was lots of energy and a wide variety of patrons, some dressed to the "nines" and others Portland casual. The options on the menu were just want we wanted.
We went for early New Year's Eve dinner. Started out great, but our waitress got slammed with big parties, and we were kind of neglected. Not totally unexpected on NYE. She was sweetly apologetic, and had a very nice personality that made up for it .
The food was great and we had lots of fun, anyway!
Can't go to Kell's for dinner and not have "bangers and mash," so good!
Once again, we were able to celebrate Christmas Eve with the crew at Kell's. Its one of our much treasured traditions that we so look forward to. Kell's is warm, homey, with friendly relaxed service. We love the Irish nachos (hard to find something on their menu that we don't like) paired with a side salad for dinner. I especially love that they put on whatever Christmas movie is showing on multiple screens, dim the lights a bit and most are watching the movie. Kell's is our go-to comfort place for the warm ambiance and yummy food.
Our group of 12 had our holiday "party" at Kell's and everyone loved it. Service staff was great and the food was exceptional. We will be back!!
Love this place! It's been a tradition for our families for years when we fly in. Family owned, great vibe for young and old .. never feel rushed.
Super loud place. Energetic if you’re looking for that but if you want to talk, not ideal.
Food was okay but sorta overpriced for what it was.
Great as usual. Would like to see the Marine Flag on Marine Corps Birthday though!
Our server (don't remember her name was very attentive and helpful. When one of the orders of fries was cold, she went and got some right out of the fryer. When one of the desserts was missing a cookie, she comped the dessert. How nice.
A great authentic Irish pub. The food was excellent and I will return soon.
While having dinner I would have enjoyed it even more if Irish music was playing.
Kells is a really good restaurant that is ALWAYS reliable. We never hesitate to recommend it because it has a wide variety of food for anyone's appetite and it is alway good. The only downside is that it is always noisy!!!!
Amazing meal and beer post half- marathon. The stout is excellent and we had the Shepherd's pie and Irish Nachos, both stellar. Would eat here all the time if I lived in Portland.
We have been to Kells many times. This time the service was poor and the place was very noisy. A bit disappointed this time.
This is not a good place to eat if your table wants separate checks; they only allow 3 credit cards per table, and typically won't create separate checks. We were a table of 8 for a business lunch; when I made the reservation I asked about separate checks and was told they would do that but only accept 3 credit cards per table because it takes too long to process the cards. Our 8 people nearly doubled their lunch rush for that day and they still refused to allow more than 3 credit cards. In my opinion if they are not interested in helping with what the customer needs or wants then they aren't interested in gaining my business. The food was fine, but my monthly business lunches will not be returning here.
GREAT food, fun place to celebrate 21st birthdays. Their whiskey selection is top notch plus the benefit of a cigar bar.
Bar/restaurant was completely understaffed. Although my reservation for 10 was made a week in advance, our server was working half of the restaurant, which caused visible stress to the individual and diminished the service we received. We requested water pitchers to be waiting on the table for us prior to arrival and had to ask for them twice after arrival. The happy hour prices for beer and apps were fantastic. We wanted to eat dinner too and head to the cigar bar but service was so poor, we decided to close our tab and leave the restaurant altogether. It was a serious bummer. We were also STRONGLY encouraged to use Venmo rather than having the check split evenly among us (including coasters advertising Venmo). I can understand diverting to Venmo if we had meals/drinks to individually split up but we didn't. We asked that the whole check be split by the number of people evenly.
The apps and beers were tasty and a great value at (basically) half price.
Always a great time at Kell's, love the music, dance and good food.
Fun spot with music. Excellent fish and great burger.
Great food excellent atmosphere family was pleased! Will definitely return,
This restaurant was very loud. Everything else was adequate
Great late-night outdoor dining and drinking! What a show on a Friday night!! It was like Paris in the summertime!
Kells is a wonderful restaurant. The food is always delicious and the service is friendly.
Good Irish pub food. Good service. Fun place
We like to try an Irish pub in every city we visit because we love the food and the vibe. We chose Kell's in Portland because the reviews were so good. Unfortunately, the food (Shepherd's pie, bangers and mash) was mediocre, and the service was disinterested at best. We did not feel welcome at all, which is what you should feel in an authentic pub. Too bad.
I always enjoy a meal at Kells. High quality Irish fare and beer.
The corned beef and cabbage is always very good here and they are the only place I know of that still carried Irish hard cider.
We enjoyed the food and lively music from Grafton St.--a fun evening!
Place full of character, with good food & drink, and great people.
I had my birthday here and it was awesome! I had a reservation for 15 people and they were super accommodating, the live music was amazing, and we had a wonderful time!
Our meal was great. I hadn't been there before, so wasn't sure what to expect, but we will definitely go back. The only weird thing was that our waitress completely disappeared in the middle of our meal. I can only assume she was off-shift, or on a break, but no one came to finish our meal until I flagged someone down. We weren't offered refills on our drinks, nor were we offered desserts. We had to request the check and no one seemed all that interested in us. It was disappointing, and I hope it's not a theme there.
