I would not recommend Kells Brews Pub NW. I was there on a day trip from Eugene to Portland with a Japanese student my wife and I hosted in 2010. I assumed it would be good Irish food like I have experienced in my 3 trips to Ireland. It was mostly appetizers. Not the Irish dishes I thought it would be. We had got there by 12pm and they had already run out of soda bread so only one of us could have it. The service not good at all. Even when I asked directions to the major waterfall in Portland, they had no idea. I honestly wished we hadn't gone to that establishment. I sure won't go back if I ever return to Portland.
Food was fair. Lamb stew had way more carrots than lamb. Shepherds pie was very good.
I felt like we were transported to a pub in Ireland. The fish & chips and reuben were both excellent! I can see why it's a local favorite. I gave it 4 out of 5 only because of its location in town.
Met son and granddaughter there for a quick dinner. The meal arrived but one of the granddaughter's plates was missing. The waitress first said it should be out soon and then came back and said she had missed placing the order. It came quite a bit later than the rest of our meal. I ALWAYS think there should be some give back when that happens - a free dessert, $5 off the meal of whatever.
We loved the brews, the food, and the prices. Service was awesome and the bar has a super cool look to it.
Great menu, great service, great beer!
This was ore second time to come here. Was more fun with a group. Good service but food just so so.
Fun place. We go for the Stout on Nitro. The Shepard's pie is fantastic.
Great decor and ambiance ... good brews and great service. While food was traditional and well presented ... the portions were a little on the wee side for the price within the local market among pubs - especially the lamb stew which included only one recognizable cube of meat among the shallow bowl of tasty ingredients. To be clear, the flavors and presentations are great ...
The pub was kind enough to gift a dessert to the Birthday Girl ... good on 'um. All in all a good experience especially the staff.
Great shepherds pie and brews loved the private booths
Last time I was at Kell's I had the Sheperd's Pie and decided to try it again. I convinced my friend to try it as well and we both loved it! The beef and vegetable base is oh so tasty and the potatoes on top are light and delicious. Not to mention the Demi glaze that floats in a pocket on the top, which adds a delightful finish to each bite. Yum, yum. My wife and her friend had the Kell's burger which they also loved. The Whiskey Boneless Chicken Wings are tasty, but just not the same if you are looking for a great tasting wing! Overall great food and a good time at Kell's.
Great place for a weekend business meal. We were pleasantly surprised to find the weekend brunch menu -- offered options for each member of our group.
I tried a Bloody Mary - it needs a bit more work-- for quality of the tomato juice part and for presentation. The skillet presentation of eggs mushrooms, spinach and feta was great.
Their Guinness is authentic.
We took our Granddaughter to birthday dinner. Their private booths are perfect for a private quiet dinner. Our waitress was very friendly and tried hard to make our evening fun.
Really really wish they had Irish music!
App meatballs and mashed potatoes were so excellent!!!
Kell's is reliably good every time. The Whiskey Wings (sauce on the side) are actually boneless and really delicious. There are two leather Chesterfield sofas in front of the fireplace that are a great place to sit for drinks and a snack.
Tim was a delightful server, our food delicious (cheeseburger & mac & cheese & beer).
Something odd though - we heard a dog barking & that bothered me even though I did not see it.
We will definitely return for another great meal. Making a reservation online as driving there was terrific
Thanks for a fun evening. Wish you had a larger parking lot.
Just enjoy the restaurant! Irish decor; great wait staff and bar staff; food was very tasty and seating can be anywhere you want.
Good brews and attentive servers will bring me back every time and this place has both! Love the interior, too. Captures the British isles
Great Irish Pub that has an impressive Whiskey listing as well. Service is prompt and professional. Food is varied and tasty!
A small group of us get together for dinner monthly. Kells Brew Pub was perfect for casual dining. Our server, Dianna, was awesome. We were well cared for without feeling hovered over. She shared information on the different menu items and everything tasted wonderful. With out a doubt we will return to Kells soon.
Feels like your in Ireland!! Great food and drinks and such a neat place.. Lots of fun and Timbers fans!!
Highly recommend sausage roll appetizer and bread pudding :D
We love coming to Kell's in NW. The atmosphere is awesome, and on a normal night, it isn't hard to get a table. The Kell's beers are great and they have rotating taps as well. I'm a fan of Kell's IPA and their Irish Red. The chicken curry fries entree is amazing if you like your food on the spicy side. It's the best thing on the menu, IMO. Highly recommend it. Service is always fantastic and the bartenders are really great, especially Nick.
Good selection of Irish pub food.
Enjoyed holiday dinner at this great restaurant perfect mix of great food and casual atmosphere. Would definitely head back there again. The vege pasty was excellent!
Annually, my daughters and I hit the town for some early Christmas shopping, martinis and and nice dinner. Kells was the perfect spot. I had asked for a quiet table, and they gave us a typical Irish enclosed booth. This is really a beer and mashers spot, but their wines and entrees satisfied everyone's tastes. I would definitely return and recommend to others.
The Kells' fries has really a special taste. The sauce makes it even more delicious. Live music varies and it's always very good. Great place every day of the week.
Many and bey delicious Irish food and drinks. Beer tastes very well. In good weather outdoor space is a very good alternative. Live sports games make it an all round place.
The servers were very nice and we were seated quickly. They have a great time and a few easy to find gluten free options. Be sure to ask if there is something you are interested in, and they will see what they can do to make it gluten free. The only icing on the cake that it needs is Irish music! Fantastic time!
The house musician was very talented! We came with a smaller group to celebrate my husband's 30th birthday. It was a perfect atmosphere; fun yet not so noisy that you couldn't talk. We will definitely go again!
Between the two of us we had shepherd's pie and wild salmon, and both were delicious and cooked just right. Wait staff were pleasant and prompt, and they kindly let the two of us linger to catch up with each other. We tipped extra for that and we'll come back again. Suggestions? Wait staff could offer hot water refills and cream to come with the tea. Thank you.
Kells BP NW has an outstanding selection of single malt scotch, their own line of beers is quite good too. The menu is a good mix of traditional Irish food and some more contemporary American items. The space itself is gorgeous, the wood work, stained glass, flooring, fireplace, etc. add to an excellent menu and whiskey selection. I look forward to going back.
Was looking for something that was close to my hotel with "local" flavor and found it here. Had the fish and chips with their in house brewed IPA. Did the trick.
Had a terrific time. We were surprised by the tasty tasty food! I'll definitely be going back.
Had a great breakfast before the Timbers game on Saturday. The service was good and everyone was happy with their food. we had 8 adults and 2 kids in our group. Too bad the Timbers didn't win...
Hello the food was great. Although being that this is an Irish Pub I was hoping for more unique and Irish style menu offerings for our breakfast. I went to Kell's to celebrate a friends birthday. She is Irish so this is why I took her to Kell's. The breakfast menu was small, and we could have had the same food at most any restaurant. The Irish Soda bread toast was the only different item.
The service was ok. Except the waitress just did her basic level job. We told her that we were their to celebrate a birthday. She did nothing extra for this. And didn't even wish my friend a Happy Birthday or acknowledge it in any way. Even when we were leaving.
She was friendly enough, but not really very happy and friendly.
Dining with 5 other women, when we want to have an all out gab-fest was so enjoyable in the enclosure of one of the snug booth. While they aren't soundproof, it does make it much easier to have a conversation that everyone, including those hard of hearing, can participate easier in. The food was very good, with some uniquely pub items, of a Celtic nature. And our waiter was really outstanding--never felt like he was rushing us, but kept lovely reasonable check on us, and even remembered who ordered what--something I often find lacking in so many food establishments. I wish I'd gotten his name as he really was outstanding in his customer service demeanor and attitude from the moment I stepped in the front door.
Loved spending our wedding anniversary there! Lots of time to spend over drinks, food and talking time with hubby!
We went to Kell's for the first time Valentine's night at 7 PM, so it probably wasn't a typical night. Parking was challenging. There were a lot of people there, but we were seated quickly and received very good service. Our food was yummy though, I ordered the Valentine's Day salmon over quinoa special and it was great. Everything was fresh and tasty. My husband (who is from Ireland) ordered the Chicken Curry (over chips/fries). It was exactly what he expected, an upscale-more fresh version of the curry he loved to get back home at the local chip shop. Due to babysitter constraints, we had to leave before the live music started, but it definitely looked promising ;-). We would definitely go back.
