Kells Brew Pub NW
This is a every other month dining location for us. Tonight it was about birthdays for two family members.
We were surprised to find the Happy Hour menu is suspended on evenings when there is a game at the nearby stadium; not only that, but there is a truncated memo that offers only one vegetarian meal option (though it was good, it wasn’t really what our family’s lone vegetarian wanted. Maybe think about getting some kind of veggie burger?)
Also, some wine shortage because of a game the prior day, so went with third choice wine. Not a huge deal, but in conjunction with no Happy Hour and a different menu than usual, kind of downgraded the experience.
Service was good and staff friendly as always. Food came quickly and was of good quality. Love the private seating areas which are great for a family of friend celebration.
We’ll go back, because we really like this location. But we’ll know enough next time to check the stadium schedule.
Great time sitting outside on Mother’s Day. The food was great. Service great too. They did add something on to our bill that we did not order, but they effectively voided it and gave us a correct tab. The Blazer game was on, it wasn’t too loud, and we enjoyed great conversation. And, the Blazers won!! I am ready to go back anytime.
Great neighborhood pub. Our first time at Kelly’s, looking for a bite of lunch and found Kells. Great menu with some traditional pub fare, we enjoyed the Sheppard’s pie today, very tasty, plenty to eat, and enjoyed one of the many brews offered. Great service, friendly. Definitely will stop in again next time through Portland.
It’s always a good evening at Kells
Irish stew served to my wife was all broth as the waitress said from the bottom of the barrel, should have not been served.Next day when we were at Kells Restaurant the Irish Stew was overflowing and outstanding.
Food is good. Service was ok. Waitstaff nice. Hostess was business without a real greeting just quickly sitting you down. Beer selection better at their flagship restaurant.
Loved the curry and fish and chips
The very friendly staff just couldn't get our order correct. We had a large group of 10 at a large booth for one round of drinks and about 5 food orders. They forgot 2 food orders. They also forgot 2 drink orders and were reminded about each of these once and only ever brought 1 of the food orders and neither drink. They did apologize twice but we gave up on the drinks after a second reminder. Maybe it was a problem with the back of the house. Their irish take on nachos was with potato chips which resulted in a solid mass of damp chips from the wet stuff on top that needed a knife and fork to pry apart. Maybe it had sat too long before being brought? Nice idea but not well executed. The quinoa bowl was pretty good and healthy. We've been there many times and have had orders get lost before but its convenient before soccer games so we keep trying. They have bagpipers parade down to the matches which is really cool.
The beer is very good (Kell's Red Ale); the food was just so-so. The staff was super friendly. Maybe it was just an off-night for the restaurant, but not sure we'll go back.
Took hour to get soup and appetizers. Had to ask multiple times for water and food. This place is usually good and fast. Very disappointed.
Every town needs an Irish pub to go drinking with friends or just sit alone. But not to brood in! It's probably illegal to be miserable in an Irish Pub and especially in Kell's.
I would not recommend Kells Brews Pub NW. I was there on a day trip from Eugene to Portland with a Japanese student my wife and I hosted in 2010. I assumed it would be good Irish food like I have experienced in my 3 trips to Ireland. It was mostly appetizers. Not the Irish dishes I thought it would be. We had got there by 12pm and they had already run out of soda bread so only one of us could have it. The service not good at all. Even when I asked directions to the major waterfall in Portland, they had no idea. I honestly wished we hadn't gone to that establishment. I sure won't go back if I ever return to Portland.
Food was fair. Lamb stew had way more carrots than lamb. Shepherds pie was very good.
I felt like we were transported to a pub in Ireland. The fish & chips and reuben were both excellent! I can see why it's a local favorite. I gave it 4 out of 5 only because of its location in town.
Met son and granddaughter there for a quick dinner. The meal arrived but one of the granddaughter's plates was missing. The waitress first said it should be out soon and then came back and said she had missed placing the order. It came quite a bit later than the rest of our meal. I ALWAYS think there should be some give back when that happens - a free dessert, $5 off the meal of whatever.
We loved the brews, the food, and the prices. Service was awesome and the bar has a super cool look to it.
Great menu, great service, great beer!
This was ore second time to come here. Was more fun with a group. Good service but food just so so.
Fun place. We go for the Stout on Nitro. The Shepard's pie is fantastic.
Great decor and ambiance ... good brews and great service. While food was traditional and well presented ... the portions were a little on the wee side for the price within the local market among pubs - especially the lamb stew which included only one recognizable cube of meat among the shallow bowl of tasty ingredients. To be clear, the flavors and presentations are great ...
The pub was kind enough to gift a dessert to the Birthday Girl ... good on 'um. All in all a good experience especially the staff.
Great shepherds pie and brews loved the private booths
Last time I was at Kell's I had the Sheperd's Pie and decided to try it again. I convinced my friend to try it as well and we both loved it! The beef and vegetable base is oh so tasty and the potatoes on top are light and delicious. Not to mention the Demi glaze that floats in a pocket on the top, which adds a delightful finish to each bite. Yum, yum. My wife and her friend had the Kell's burger which they also loved. The Whiskey Boneless Chicken Wings are tasty, but just not the same if you are looking for a great tasting wing! Overall great food and a good time at Kell's.
Great place for a weekend business meal. We were pleasantly surprised to find the weekend brunch menu -- offered options for each member of our group.
I tried a Bloody Mary - it needs a bit more work-- for quality of the tomato juice part and for presentation. The skillet presentation of eggs mushrooms, spinach and feta was great.
Their Guinness is authentic.
We took our Granddaughter to birthday dinner. Their private booths are perfect for a private quiet dinner. Our waitress was very friendly and tried hard to make our evening fun.
Really really wish they had Irish music!
App meatballs and mashed potatoes were so excellent!!!
Kell's is reliably good every time. The Whiskey Wings (sauce on the side) are actually boneless and really delicious. There are two leather Chesterfield sofas in front of the fireplace that are a great place to sit for drinks and a snack.
Tim was a delightful server, our food delicious (cheeseburger & mac & cheese & beer).
Something odd though - we heard a dog barking & that bothered me even though I did not see it.
We will definitely return for another great meal. Making a reservation online as driving there was terrific
Thanks for a fun evening. Wish you had a larger parking lot.
Just enjoy the restaurant! Irish decor; great wait staff and bar staff; food was very tasty and seating can be anywhere you want.
Good brews and attentive servers will bring me back every time and this place has both! Love the interior, too. Captures the British isles
Great Irish Pub that has an impressive Whiskey listing as well. Service is prompt and professional. Food is varied and tasty!
A small group of us get together for dinner monthly. Kells Brew Pub was perfect for casual dining. Our server, Dianna, was awesome. We were well cared for without feeling hovered over. She shared information on the different menu items and everything tasted wonderful. With out a doubt we will return to Kells soon.
Feels like your in Ireland!! Great food and drinks and such a neat place.. Lots of fun and Timbers fans!!
Highly recommend sausage roll appetizer and bread pudding :D
We love coming to Kell's in NW. The atmosphere is awesome, and on a normal night, it isn't hard to get a table. The Kell's beers are great and they have rotating taps as well. I'm a fan of Kell's IPA and their Irish Red. The chicken curry fries entree is amazing if you like your food on the spicy side. It's the best thing on the menu, IMO. Highly recommend it. Service is always fantastic and the bartenders are really great, especially Nick.
Good selection of Irish pub food.
Enjoyed holiday dinner at this great restaurant perfect mix of great food and casual atmosphere. Would definitely head back there again. The vege pasty was excellent!
Annually, my daughters and I hit the town for some early Christmas shopping, martinis and and nice dinner. Kells was the perfect spot. I had asked for a quiet table, and they gave us a typical Irish enclosed booth. This is really a beer and mashers spot, but their wines and entrees satisfied everyone's tastes. I would definitely return and recommend to others.
The Kells' fries has really a special taste. The sauce makes it even more delicious. Live music varies and it's always very good. Great place every day of the week.
Many and bey delicious Irish food and drinks. Beer tastes very well. In good weather outdoor space is a very good alternative. Live sports games make it an all round place.
