Kellari Taverna Ratings and Reviews
you know as much as i like the food here and the prix fixe, the fish entree on a few occasions has been kind of dry and over cooked. this time it was a wahoo. just not what i'm looking for. on the other hand, the grilled calamari and the greek cake are awesome.
We had a blast. We were warmly greeted when we arrived. We sat at a cozy booth in the corner. Appetizers were superb: Saganaki cheese, Kellari Chips, and a Greek salad... so tasty. We asked for a wine recommendation, and the server suggested a fantastic Red Blend. Then my wife went with our waiter, and picked out our fish, which was then prepared the traditional Greek way with lemon and Olive Oil. Desserts were tempting, but we were so full from the rest of the delicious meal. We were celebrating my wife's birthday, and everybody at Kellari made it a very memorable and enjoyable evening. We look forward to returning sometime soon.
If you are looking for a restaurant where the food is excellent (you will not find a better shrimp risotto anywhere!) and prepared with care and attention to details, a restaurant that is elegant yet comfortable and welcoming, where the service is reliably pleasant and attentive, and where wide-spaced tables and carpeting make it possible to not only relish the cuisine, but actually carry on a conversation, this is the place to go. It is certainly our first choice when deciding where to dine.
The Business Lunch at Kellari had a range of good choices, and all three of us were satisfied with our meals. The atmosphere is likewise business-like, filled with folks from nearby offices. Still, the table has plenty of space and the food comes quickly despite the restaurant being pretty full.
Had lunch at Kellari to catch up with an old friend. We were seated immediately and service was swift and professional. Food and ambiance were both very good as well. I would not say that Kellari is truly exceptional for food, service or ambiance, but it was certainly very good in all categories and we left completely satisfied. I'd return.
I was extremely disappointed in the food. Specifically, I ordered the lobster salad at $24.95 and what I received was equivelent to a side salad of mostly lettuce! I suspect there was less tham 3 oz of lobster meat. I was disappointed with the meal and hungry when I left the restaurant!
$9 for a bottle of still water seemed excessive,
The service was mediocor - pleasant but extremely slow.
First visit to Kellari's and we really enjoyed it. We opted for a variety of small plates so we could try a number of dishes. The fresh fish looked wonderful and I will try it next visit. We also had fun people watching as a "mystery" dignitary was there with many secret service people present!
My friends and I used to go to Kellari frequently, but unfortunatey, they had a very bad experience about a year ago. I'm happy to report my experience with Kellari was very positive. They have completely changed their wait staff, and they are all professional and pleasant. My companion and I both had the lobster, it was very, very good. I plan on making a return trip and hopefully am able to convince my other friends to join me.
It was my first trip there and my boyfriends third. He'd been there twice before for lunch. At our dinner I'd been seated a few minutes and hadn't even opened the menu while waiting for my boyfriend to arrive when I was asked if I was ready to order or wanted to wait for him. Our server had an issue opening the bottle of wine ordered and disappeared just after showing it to us. My boyfriends meal was placed in front of him and then immediately removed again to clean up the plate, which looked fine to us. Our waiter was constantly missing when we needed him and hovering too long when we didn't. The food was good but not quite up to the hype or price.
Kellari is my favorite lunch restaurant in the neighborhood. Good for business (white tablecloths etc) but not pretentious. The food always feels light and fresh, with many small dishes to choose from. My lunch of meaty grilled sardines with oil & lemon, a salad, and a glass of dry Greek white wine was perfect. Service was quick, friendly, and competent as usual (except they forgot my side order of tzatziki, not as usual).
The food at this restaurant is excellent - I keep going back. I discovered it in NYC and the DC location is even better because the tables are large and nicely spaced. It does not matter what you order off the menu, whether lunch or dinner, it is all superb!
They were practically out of everything when we dined - no spanakopita (yes, at a Greek restaurant!), no chicken and no scallops. The service was pathetic, we had to flag down our waiter multiple times just to get our water glasses refilled during the 50+ minutes that we waited for our food. Terribly disappointing!
We were extremely surprised by the lack of professionalism exhibited by the management and wait staff. There is no need for us to expound on the multiple deficiencies we experienced, unfortunate for an establishment that was highly recommended by Greek patrons.
Although the food at the restaurant is great. After the way the waiting staff treated us, I will never go back. We waited 30 minutes for the waiter to take our order and we had to ask someone to get him. The entire meal our waiter waited at the tables they think they could make more money, and completely ignored us. The waiter was rude and impatient. Finally once we were finished with the meal. The manager came over and ask how our meal. She was terribly rude, and went one step further to insinuate that we couldn't afford to eat there. (The meal was during restaurant week) All said and done, although the food was good, the way I and my group was treated was not worth coming back.
