Kellari Taverna Ratings and Reviews
Kellari's is a favorite choice when we are meeting friends in DC. We've never been disappointed. The appetizers are delicious and filling, so recommend caution in how many you order so you don't fill up before the main course. There are always many choices of fresh fish, which the diner hand picks, and it is prepared and presented beautifully--not to mention perfectly done.
(if you prefer meat, the lamb chops look delicious, too). The cookies after the meal were an unexpected treat (it was our friend's birthday). I especially liked the baklava-type cookie, prepared without filo pastry. We'd dine at Kellari's more often if we lived closer!
We were extremely disappointed with the food and expense of this restaurant. We had an assortment of dips, spanakopita, and the fresh catch of the day. None of the dips were even marginally good. Cava dips from Whole Foods are better. The fresh catch was over cooked to the point of being dry and bland. For the amount they charge per pound, this was unacceptable. The only saving grace was that the service was good as was my company. We will not return.
First time here and was given a groupon for 2 people for $50. What a bargain for brunch. Unlimited mimosas and a very nice 3 course menu to choose from. Loved my Cellar salad and also my crab cake. Kids had pasta and my dining mates had a burger, baklava and a mixed appetizer platter. Everyone loved their food. Would definitely go back. Easy to park as well.
Glad that I tried KT using a groupon because I would have been upset paying full price to dine there. Service was pretty good but food was quite disappointing. I ordered the salmon with polenta cake, which was decent, but it was served on top of a tomato sauce that tasted like jar marinara. The sauce really threw off the rest of the dish. Would have been much better without the sauce or possibly with a different sauce. I also ordered a side of the roasted lemon potatoes, they were not roasted at all. They were not tender at all and looked/tasted like they had maybe been boiled for a few minutes but definitely not roasted.
We had been to Kellari several times a while ago, so we were looking forward to reconnecting with a favorite restaurant. We left, however, with a mild sense of disappointment. Our appetizer and each of our entrees had some high points, but overall, the food was not very inspired - somewhat bland in flavor and not very memorable. Perhaps just an off night or we selected the wrong entrees that didn't impress. We will probably visit again, but will temper our expectations.
This was my first visit to Kellari Taverna during a business trip, but I will return, as it was quite good. I had the grilled bream, sautéed spinach and the baklava for dessert. All were excellent. Service in the restaurant was outstanding. I found prices to be a little high, but maybe not for DC, and the food and service certainly offset the slight sting of the bill.
