"Many people ask me if this is Greek Cuisine , and I don’t know what to compare it to, either to Greek cuisine of 1962 or 2009, but my answer is a seafood restaurant with a Greek Flare to it " Chef Gregory Zapantis.
"Our Menu of Simply Grilled fish but simplicity with elegance ! " Chef Gregory Zapantis.

The crab cake sandwich was delicious! The fries were perfect too.
The restaurant inside is lovely, however, the service is truly lacking. I ordered the Mediterranean sea bass and asked specifically how it was prepared along with the vegetables. He indicated just grilled - both the fish and the vegetables. When the food came out, it had this lemon butter sauce not mentioned in the menu description nor from the server, whom I asked when I ordered. When I told him that I didn't want the sauce, he was miffed, said nothing, did not even apologize. He simply took it off of the table and had another person bring it to the table. He never asked was this correct, he just said nothing. This was a business lunch and was recommended by a coworker; we won't be going back again.
Dear guest, we are really sorry to hear about your experience at our restaurant not being up to the standards you have expected. It is important to us to isolate this incident and improve our service. We hope that you may share with us information from your check giving us the opportunity to find the server that needs more help with our food program training. And please give us another opportunity to serve you better next time your are in Washington. We truly appreciate your feedback.
This restaurant is phenomenal! We are in D.C. visiting from San Antonio, TX. We have eaten at so many restaurants while in D.C. in the last week but not one compares to the friendly service, amazing food & elegant atmosphere that exists at Kellari Taverna. Quenby greeted us & seated us at a lovely table by the window. She was very nice. Dimitri was our server and he was fantastic! We had everything we needed at all times. He even gave us some great recommendations on where to go when we visit Greece. As for the food... The calamari appetizer is scrumptious! We usually love fried calamari but the sauce on their grilled calamari is unparalleled in flavor. The pasta is great & the desserts were yummy! We had the baklava (the best we have ever had) & we tried the Galaktoboureko. The pastry was flaky & filling was perfectly creamy. Niko checked on us during our brunch and even brought us champagne! We were celebrating our anniversary. He was so kind! We had a great time talking to him. The bellinis & mimosas were bottomless & so good! Maybe too good...lol The service at Kellari couldn’t possibly be any better. Niko & Dimitri made our experience unforgettable! Thank you!!!
The food was OK. Pretty pricy for not having stand out dishes.
I have been there many times but for the first time I had stomach problems after that. The main course was too greasy. I hope they go back to the great standard that I have known to experience in the past.
I am a repeat client who always requests a booth since meeting clients. Was sat in back room in far corner which was good for conversation but lacked ambiance. Probably my least favorite Kellari experience but hopefully will do better next time.
She loved the food, I loved the ambiance. It was a pretty fun date.
Something must be up...Kellari was out of a number of bottles of wine and said they had been busy that week...They have been around long enough they should have been able to call the provider. Plus, they were out of some food items, too. Are they closing?
it was loud for lunch, but I will be back. Food and service were impeccable. I had the crabcake salad which was superb, and my boss has the grilled shrimp salad which he said was great.
We had a great brunch at Kellari! I don't think our Bellini's were ever empty. The staff was amazing and very responsive. Our only hitch was one order of the eggs benedict was overcooked but the staff replaced it very fast! I would eat there again. Also I think this would be a great place to bring out of town guests/family.
Disappointing across the board. Really high prices for average food, average service.
This is a fun place. I would say that the ambiance and service are better than the food. Pretty lively. There was a band beginning at 9 the evening we were there, and it was difficult to talk when they were playing. But, if you're not looking to have constant conversation, it's fine.
We had a party for about 20. Everything ran perfectly thanks to Wanda George Tatiana and of course the wonderful twins. It was for a person finishing her PhD and she had best time of all
Food was good but I found it to be very expensive for what you got. Service was just ok.
It was a business lunch and although we had a reservation we were seated at a table that was too close to a booth. So very close that we had to move to allow the party to seat. In addition, we virtually got poor service and it took so long for our waitress to come back to us we waited too long and no longer wanted coffee or desert.
Good food and great service. We will return!
Faye was a great server. Unfortunately, they were out of bellinis
Great happy hour options
Felt very rushed by Walter ! He didn’t explain the dishes well
Outstanding service. The food is excellent, everything we had was perfectly prepared, and this comes from a Greek customer with very high standards. Highly recommended.
The quality of Greek traditional food is not what it used to be and fewer options for Greek food available on their menu.
Inattentive waitress and we had a Vip guest that we had advised the restaurant about. Globally known. She poured our bottle of Prosecco to the brim of each glass - very déclassé. She hardly checked on the table. To top it off they were out of many items that are very popular and it was quite embarrassing. No calamari, no tuna, no bronzino for a Greek restaurant that is unforgivable. No apology from manager until we saw our vip guest off and brought it to her attention. She did visit the table during service. I have been here at least 15 times and this was the worst. Table of 5 and $500.00 later - terrible.
Excellent brunch with a Greek atmosphere.
Quality has gone down significantly
We felt very rushed through lunch.
While service was prompt, it was perhaps over-eager with water pours and clearing the table.
Very accommodating for my large group of 13 for brunch!
Always have an excellent experience!
One of our favorite happy hour spots. Wonderful service and delicious food.
If you like Mediterranean cuisine, fish, capers, oil....that’s your place! Weirdly the calamari were a little chewy but the fish was really well done
This is our second visit to Kellari. We were disappointed the first time and only returned because a friend said we have to order the whole fish. Unfortunately the fish was not impressive either. We can not recommend Kellari Taverna.
Everything was very nice, had the calamari and Icelandic Cod, which were phenomenal. Our waiter was very personable and prompt.
The food was very good . We loved the bronzeno fish and side dishes . Service was excellent and we appreciate the extra break and humus . The free dessert for our anniversary was very much appreciated . The only reason for 4 stars is little bit pricy specially for side dishes . We will be back
Excellent food and service. If there was any issue, albeit a very minor one, it was that I had to ask for the prix fixe menu that I saw on-line, since it was not provided with the original menu.
Great food; great service; great ambiance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Excellent food and exceptional service
Never disappointed at Kellari Taverna. Food, service, wine & ambiance make this restaurant one of my favorites!
So this place is a tad bit expensive but the brunch prefixe was absolutely delicious. Our waitress on the otherhand acted as though we were not good enough to be there. However, the manager was attentive, polite, and welcoming. There were 5 of us and I don't think anyone got a bad dish. Expect too spend some money but if you want a beautiful, peaceful, tastey brunch I so recommend this place.
I have been to this establishment several times and each visit was pleasant. Everyone is always is inviting and accommodating. The servers always make you feel like "it's all about you". They are one of the few places that serve brunch and have "bottomless" mimosas. Another plus is the servers don't hang around and make you feel like you have to leave. Love the place and will continue to go.
we ordered three standard greek items and in each case we have had better elsewhere. In addition it was expensive for what we got. We won't return.
The middle-aged waiter attending our table was terrible. He was insolent, inattentive and slow in his response. As he did not answer when I asked for more bread, I repeated my request for more bread, and he said, "I heard you!" and went away. It was toward the end of our dinner that the additional bread was brought to the table, and the person who brought the bread was not the same waiter, but the man who was pouring water around the tables. So, we asked him for some spoons, and he immediately brought spoons and forks to all three of us. This was the courtesy and attention we expected from the staff, and we got that from the water man, but not from our waiter. Our waiter was very terse when we asked him about some of the menu items. He frowned when he answered, as if to show his displeasure at having to answer such basic questions. He answered very abruptly, so we were afraid to ask the same question again. Likewise, his attitude was offensive and disrupted our plan to have a pleasant dinner with our guest.
The waitress was amazing helped with our selections . Love this wonderful spot .
