"Many people ask me if this is Greek Cuisine , and I don’t know what to compare it to, either to Greek cuisine of 1962 or 2009, but my answer is a seafood restaurant with a Greek Flare to it " Chef Gregory Zapantis.
"Our Menu of Simply Grilled fish but simplicity with elegance ! " Chef Gregory Zapantis.
"we are bringing to the people of Washington Something they haven’t experienced before " Chef Anthony Acinapura.
Kellari Taverna is very sensitive to sustainable seafood.

Great evening. Salvadore provided excellent service. Around the table we had sea bass, seafood orzo, lamb chops. All delicious
We chose Kellari as a DC Restaurant Week destination with friends, having not been there in several years and having a hankering for some good Greek food. Sadly, we didn’t get any. The service and surroundings were quite good; the food was basically just bad. And by the time the taxes and such had been added in on top of the Restaurant Week basic charge, we ended up paying nearly as much as if we had ordered a la carte. I wished I had — I ordered the octopus starter (an $8 extra charge applied) because I’m a fan of octopus. The menu described it as “charred” on the grill, which it should be. What came (after a noteworthy delay) was a bowl of gelatinous lumps that had never been near a grill, and were cold to boot. There’s a good Greek word to describe it, but it’s too impolite to use here.
The fish was fantastic!!!
Service beyond reproach!!!
"I love the relaxed feel of this place. I definitely would return to try more dishes. Our food was excellent, the waiter was so personable. The manager waited on us. Brunch is a must unlimited mimosas.
Food was bland. Nothing special. I have been many times, and the food isn’t the same. My entree came with raw spinach. Just a handful of raw spinach. No dressing or cooked.
We visit whenever we're in the area. Met our daughter after her business trip and my postponed surgery as a getaway weekend. Food, service and ambiance are top level. Always worth the effort to include in a DC trip.
We had the pre-fix menu and ordered arctic char and branzino for our entree. The char was perfect but the branzino was over cooked and dry. Bit disappointing but the taste was good though.
We brought an out of town guest to dinner on December 30, 2019. This was a return visit with an individual visiting from out of town since we had a wonderful dinner and excellent service 3 years ago. There were at most 5 tables of customers in the restaurant. We had to wait to place our order; we had to ask the waiter to bring the bottle of wine we ordered. The wine we ordered was not available so he brought another which was more expensive (we accepted it). We placed our orders. Two diners received their starters and the third did not receive their salad and had to ask for it. The waiter was not available or checking in at all. We had to ask the fellow who was pouring water if he would check on the status of the salad. The bottom line is the service was terrible other than the fellow filling our water glasses. The food was ok but does not warrant the prices charged. The bottom line is we were disappointed with the service.
Chef is obsessed with capers, makes almost every dish salty. I would not come back or recommend it. Service is great!
Wonderful venue. Great happy hour and lively bar scene. Delicious food with excellent service, outstanding menu, particularly if you are a fan of Greek food. Fun desserts.
The service was abysmal. My business lunch took over an hour and a half because the waiter was completely MIA. I had to request bread, olives, and refills.
Our lobster dinner was great! The ambience is wonderful. The service is warm, welcoming and attentive. Our waiter, Niko, was fantastic! Thank you.
We love this brunch in DC. Excellent food and service. Never disappoints when we are here.
Great place, amazing food, worths every penny! I strongly recommend.
All good—food, service and atmosphere—some of the best seafood in DC
Very disappointed in my last visit. I have been many times and always had a positive experience. This time there was no hummus served with the bread and olives - a big deletion. Also, I ordered the bronzini fillet special and the piece of fish was one-half of an incredibly small fish - not at all enough or worth the price. I was in a business meeting so I didn't complain. I hope this was just a slip and not the start of a new trend.
Outstanding!! I could say so much more but if you don’t go, you’ve missed out seriously. It’s just that good!!!
Great place for real fresh Mediterranean fish. Good service and ambiance. The fix-price menu is a great deal.
The crab cake sandwich was delicious! The fries were perfect too.
The restaurant inside is lovely, however, the service is truly lacking. I ordered the Mediterranean sea bass and asked specifically how it was prepared along with the vegetables. He indicated just grilled - both the fish and the vegetables. When the food came out, it had this lemon butter sauce not mentioned in the menu description nor from the server, whom I asked when I ordered. When I told him that I didn't want the sauce, he was miffed, said nothing, did not even apologize. He simply took it off of the table and had another person bring it to the table. He never asked was this correct, he just said nothing. This was a business lunch and was recommended by a coworker; we won't be going back again.
Dear guest, we are really sorry to hear about your experience at our restaurant not being up to the standards you have expected. It is important to us to isolate this incident and improve our service. We hope that you may share with us information from your check giving us the opportunity to find the server that needs more help with our food program training. And please give us another opportunity to serve you better next time your are in Washington. We truly appreciate your feedback.
This restaurant is phenomenal! We are in D.C. visiting from San Antonio, TX. We have eaten at so many restaurants while in D.C. in the last week but not one compares to the friendly service, amazing food & elegant atmosphere that exists at Kellari Taverna. Quenby greeted us & seated us at a lovely table by the window. She was very nice. Dimitri was our server and he was fantastic! We had everything we needed at all times. He even gave us some great recommendations on where to go when we visit Greece. As for the food... The calamari appetizer is scrumptious! We usually love fried calamari but the sauce on their grilled calamari is unparalleled in flavor. The pasta is great & the desserts were yummy! We had the baklava (the best we have ever had) & we tried the Galaktoboureko. The pastry was flaky & filling was perfectly creamy. Niko checked on us during our brunch and even brought us champagne! We were celebrating our anniversary. He was so kind! We had a great time talking to him. The bellinis & mimosas were bottomless & so good! Maybe too good...lol The service at Kellari couldn’t possibly be any better. Niko & Dimitri made our experience unforgettable! Thank you!!!
The food was OK. Pretty pricy for not having stand out dishes.
I have been there many times but for the first time I had stomach problems after that. The main course was too greasy. I hope they go back to the great standard that I have known to experience in the past.
I am a repeat client who always requests a booth since meeting clients. Was sat in back room in far corner which was good for conversation but lacked ambiance. Probably my least favorite Kellari experience but hopefully will do better next time.
She loved the food, I loved the ambiance. It was a pretty fun date.
Something must be up...Kellari was out of a number of bottles of wine and said they had been busy that week...They have been around long enough they should have been able to call the provider. Plus, they were out of some food items, too. Are they closing?
it was loud for lunch, but I will be back. Food and service were impeccable. I had the crabcake salad which was superb, and my boss has the grilled shrimp salad which he said was great.
We had a great brunch at Kellari! I don't think our Bellini's were ever empty. The staff was amazing and very responsive. Our only hitch was one order of the eggs benedict was overcooked but the staff replaced it very fast! I would eat there again. Also I think this would be a great place to bring out of town guests/family.
Disappointing across the board. Really high prices for average food, average service.
This is a fun place. I would say that the ambiance and service are better than the food. Pretty lively. There was a band beginning at 9 the evening we were there, and it was difficult to talk when they were playing. But, if you're not looking to have constant conversation, it's fine.
We had a party for about 20. Everything ran perfectly thanks to Wanda George Tatiana and of course the wonderful twins. It was for a person finishing her PhD and she had best time of all
Food was good but I found it to be very expensive for what you got. Service was just ok.
It was a business lunch and although we had a reservation we were seated at a table that was too close to a booth. So very close that we had to move to allow the party to seat. In addition, we virtually got poor service and it took so long for our waitress to come back to us we waited too long and no longer wanted coffee or desert.
Good food and great service. We will return!
Faye was a great server. Unfortunately, they were out of bellinis
Great happy hour options
Felt very rushed by Walter ! He didn’t explain the dishes well
Outstanding service. The food is excellent, everything we had was perfectly prepared, and this comes from a Greek customer with very high standards. Highly recommended.
The quality of Greek traditional food is not what it used to be and fewer options for Greek food available on their menu.
Inattentive waitress and we had a Vip guest that we had advised the restaurant about. Globally known. She poured our bottle of Prosecco to the brim of each glass - very déclassé. She hardly checked on the table. To top it off they were out of many items that are very popular and it was quite embarrassing. No calamari, no tuna, no bronzino for a Greek restaurant that is unforgivable. No apology from manager until we saw our vip guest off and brought it to her attention. She did visit the table during service. I have been here at least 15 times and this was the worst. Table of 5 and $500.00 later - terrible.
Excellent brunch with a Greek atmosphere.
