"Many people ask me if this is Greek Cuisine , and I don’t know what to compare it to, either to Greek cuisine of 1962 or 2009, but my answer is a seafood restaurant with a Greek Flare to it " Chef Gregory Zapantis.
"Our Menu of Simply Grilled fish but simplicity with elegance ! " Chef Gregory Zapantis.

Kellari Taverna is very sensitive to sustainable seafood.

Waitress passed our table but catered to other 3 tables. Patron at other table had to get her attention, then told her about our request for dessert, after 2 requests for dessert menu. Water glass was empty before it was refilled. No not water,in bathroom sink!
The salads and seafood we ordered were terrible, as if made by a bored apprentice in a big hurry. A total waste of money by anyone's standards. Only our appetizers were acceptable quality.
We had a small retirement luncheon for one of our colleagues. We picked the perfect place ... the food was excellent, service was over the top ... and overall enjoyable time. I’d go back in a heartbeat!
That was great..
Delicious and fresh! The waiter was very knowledgeable and the food was authentic. Wonderful meal.
Great seafood and fish. Great service
The quality of the food at Kellari is inconsistent. We had not been there for a while and on the whole, we found the experience a bit disappointing. We did not like the new dish they bring with the bread, the old one with olives and radishes was much better. We had the King Prawns for appetizer but they were overdone and did not taste that great. You need to be careful when you cook a delicacy (almost 50& per lb). The sea bass ceviche was good. I had a whole fish Tsipoura that was very good and fresh (being from Spain I insisted on having the whole fish served to me as such). Unfortunately my husband had the Dover sole, one of their most expensive fish on their menu at almost 50$ per lb and it was not good at all. It did not taste fresh and was really overdone. I guess in an effort to conceal its lack of freshness they had put capers and spices on it, killing the little sole taste it had. It really did not taste anything like sole. Very disappointing. Next time I go, I will make sure I choose the fish myself so I can look at its eyes to make sure it is fresh. Finally, they used to give you some sweets with the bill but nothing came this time.
Whole branzino was excellent as was the saganaki. Grilled calamari was delicious.
Food was terrible. I had the three course lunch. Each course was bad
Friday night is hopping. They bring in live Greek music every Friday. Definitely feels authentic and sounds authentic.
Every table was taken and it was not noisy at all. The food was excellent. Haven't been in a while but plan on visiting again soon.
Work lunch. Good food small portions. Remember your afternoon snack
My first time. Excellent! There was a fixed price menu which was quite a bargain. Had the sardine appetizer, bass, and yogurt cheese cake. Wonderful. The bass was superb. The yogurt cheese cake was light and a revelation. The server selected a perfect Greek wine. A well-spaced dining area. I've wanted to go because I saw Ted Leonsis enter the restaurant. I figured he must know Greek restaurants in this town. I'll be back!
had a group in last night--everything especially the service from the wonderful bar staff was outstanding!
My only complaint is that I was so full after our appetizers that we didn’t order an actual lunch! The hummus with olives and warm bread on the table was a nice touch! I don’t live local, but it will be a MUST EAT on my next trip!
We were in the area for a conference and didn't know it was restaurant week, so finding a place for dinner was challenging. Pulled out OpenTable and went with the closest place that sounded good which could accomodate us. What a nice surprise! They had a restaurant week special menu, too, which was quite economical and gave us a nice taste across the board. The food was wonderful and the portions were just right. The only downside was that there was a birthday party happening in the larger side room and I think the kitchen may have gotten backlogged with that, as there was an excessive wait between our entrees and dessert.
The food was amazing.
Fantastic seafood and excellent service. A great place for business lunch.
A special menu for restaurant week. But the first appetizer on this shortened list was unavailable. Our choice of wine was also unavailable. So we chose a slightly more expensive wine. When we got the bill, they had charged an even higher price for the wine! Always check the accuracy of the bill.
The food was generally good, as it usually is at Kellari, but the lamb chops were a little fatty.
Very pleasant atmosphere for a business lunch. The waiter was very attentive. Food was good - not as good as Kapnos Greek - but that’s not downtown.
Really loved the food and our waiter was great. Problem is there were only 2 waters for the place so it took a while to get dinner and drinks.
I went to Kellari Taverna with my colleagues for lunch. The food was good, but I didn't think it was good enough to justify the price. The appetizers were very good, but the entree was underwhelming. However, the yogurt dessert was truly AMAZING. I would recommend going just for that.
This was my second time eating here, and I had a much better experience the first. It may just be the restaurant week menu, but the first and second course was not very good. Dessert and the wine we chose were amazing though! The service was exceptional and the half off bottles of wine on Monday’s is a great deal. We had a great time, but as a foodie, I don’t think I’d go back. Probably just for dessert and drinks next time.
Once again I had a very good lunch, including the Kellari salad, salmon and the fruit plate. All were very well done and a very good value or the "three course lunch." My companion had the raw tuna that she thought was too heavily salted, but the staff was very accommodating in getting her another item.
The grilled calamari appetizer was some of the best I’ve ever had.
I met a new contact for a business lunch. We were able to conduct a private conversation without straining to hear each other. Food was excellent and given beautiful, fresh seafood, a very good value. I will definitely go again.
We have been here several times and always very pleased with food and service.
Our waiter was excellent. Enjoyed the 3 course brunch. Fish dishes are the best on menu.
Kellari is a very special and great place to dine for all occasions. There staff, (especially) the wonderful twin bartenders that are always making sure that everyone is being cared for. Great hospitality towards their guest. I highly recommended this restaurant for great fresh seafood/food and service.
Went on a quiet Friday night. This is an authentic Greek food restaurant, from the fish display to the nice selection of Greek wines and Ouzo. The service was excellent, and the fish excellent also. My octopus appetizer was the best I have ever had, and I have had the opportunity to try octopus all over the world. If you go here and do not get the octopus, you are definitely missing something. Overall, a very enjoyable experience...
I chose “comfort food” - because if you have ever been to Greece and are longing for some of the flavors, wine and textures of that land, this is the place to dine!
Wonderful selection of wines and delicious seafood. We skipped the entrees and just feasted on the appetizers and small plates.
Only thing missing was the bright sunshine on a rainy evening in Washington DC
Good lunch quiet time
Toda la familia quedó contenta.
La calidad y presentación de los platos perfecta
Never been disappointed!.
Look forward to another visit next spring !
Service was great. Food was overpriced. We wouldn't return.
I liked the fish options and the appetizers. I enjoy sitting in a booth. Our waiter was just terrific.
I really enjoyed my meal here! I was dining alone as I was in DC on work travel and it came recommended. I was VERY happy to be pointed to this spot! I ordered the 3-course pre-fixe meal, which was delicious and a great value. They did the lamb nice and rare as requested and service was so polite and attentive. Plus, dessert was delicious. Next time I’m in town I plan to go back!
Service was poor; the menu listed several fish but only 4 of the mor common ones were available at a high price per pound. When served, our was lukewarm but the waiter never came back to check. Not a good value for the money. Not the best place for a client dinner.
I am a fan of Kellari and have had many 4 and 5 star meals there. This was not one of those occasions. It took 30 min for my drink to arrive. One appetizer never arrived. We were told they ran out after 25 min. The food arrived 1 hour and 20 minutes later: lamb chops were ordered medium and were delivered very well done. The fish was over cooked. Basically, everything was wrong.
Even worse, rather than comp’ing the meal, the (I assume he was the) manager - fully aware of our entire experience - offered half off the price of the lamb jerky.
This is not typical in my experience, but this was a really, really bad night for Kellari.
Love this place!
