"Many people ask me if this is Greek Cuisine , and I don’t know what to compare it to, either to Greek cuisine of 1962 or 2009, but my answer is a seafood restaurant with a Greek Flare to it " Chef Gregory Zapantis.

Great Sunday brunch great staff. We live this place
Interesting fish selection
Visiting Washington for the weekend, We went to Kellari for the first time, influenced by the many positive reviews on Open Table. I can honestly say Kellari outdid themselves. Service by Theodora was impeccable, food was simply sensational as was the wine. Even better it was nice and quiet on a Saturday night. We truly loved Kellari’s age crushing touch was the desert cookies out for nibbles on the way out.
Exceptional job to All at Kellari and we will be back for sure.
Had the Solomos Benedict Style (good smoked salmon combo) and chef special (grouper - good, not great) for brunch. Definitely recommend the Baklava and Galaktoboureko desserts; the Calamari and Spanakopita were tasty for appetizers. Had enough food that the desserts were packed for home. The champagne that came with brunch was very smooth - I believe a brut equivalent. Overall very nice meal, not incredibly crowded on a Saturday (11:30 reservation) and a good deal with the Groupon. Our second time here, likely to visit a couple of times a year going forward. Well worth the visit.
My lunch was a happy birthday lunch and I picked this restaurant because of its convenient location on K Street in D.C. What a treat - the food was absolutely wonderful. We each ordered the "business lunch" which I highly recommend. The sea bass was cooked perfectly and the chocolate mousse at the end was wonderful. I hear the happy hour there is great and I plan to go at some point.
Delicious food, big portions, well served, quiet table, reasonable price, great experience!
A lovely restaurant for a romantic dinner date. The waiter was very friendly and helpful, and the food (especially the amazing grilled calamari) was fresh and delicious.
The food was really delicious and the server was excellent.
Service was fantastic!
Took my parents here for their anniversary and my Mom's birthday. The waitress immediately presented us with complimentary champagne! The bread and eggplant spread and olives was very nice. We shared the Greek salad, lobster risotto, salmon over polenta, and green beans in a tomato sauce. All of it was excellent and of very satisfying portions. When we were discussing dessert amongst ourselves, the waitress overheard us and told us she had already ordered us a complimentary dessert! Out came a platter of baklava, Greek yogurt and berries, and galaktoboureka. Plus a lit candle in the center. So wonderful! We will definitely return.
Great food, very good service and authentic preparation of the best Greek fish dishes. A bit expensive, but generally worth the extra dollars. But don't come expecting lamb, moussaka or other meat dishes. This is a seafood heaven. We really enjoyed the octopus and cod.
One of the dish (seafood risotto) ran out before 8:30pm on a Wednesday which is very disappointed!
Medium well Brizola 49.95 turned out to WELL DONE tough meat!
Good experience for my teenage niece but will not go back!
Excellent meal. Server good have been more engaging. Huge wine list. Lots of fresh seafood options, and plenty of other choices.
Service was unbelievably slow.
Fantastic meal! Our server, Brian, was professional, friendly, and had excellent suggestions.
Wonderful dinner - great food and reasonable prices
Kellari has great brunches! Bottomless mimosas, champagne, Bloody Mary! The staff is super friendly and very nice. It doesn’t get that crowded for brunch so it is kind of private. Food is good too but not the best.
Great Happy Hour! nice staff, great food, great value
Great ambiance inside the restaurant. Our server was attentive and on point with each meal, refills and etc. most definitely recommend dining here for dinner.
Brunch was exceptional! The choices for the 3 courses were great, and everything was well prepared. Service was top notch.
Great food and service. Great location and a perfect setting for a business dinner and dinner with friends/family. Although the dining room is a large open space, we were able to effortlessly engage in conversation during our dinner, even on a Friday night with the restaurant full.
Our server was professional and helpful to accommodate gluten free and other food restrictions. The menu is easy to navigate to accommodate food restrictions, especially with the numerous fresh seafood and side options available.
We visited for restaurant week and based on our experience, this restaurant is now at the top of list for dinner out and when guests visit from out of town.
Have always enjoyed Kellari since I first dined there in New York. So was very happy to find they had the same restaurant in Washington DC. We went for restaurant week and had a fabulous meal. My favourite grilled sardines (although they seem to have gotten much smaller than last time), and a wonderful fish entree which was also delicious, followed by a yummy light yoghurt cheesecake. Scrumptious.
It was really Good.
Great wine and food. A wonderful pick for restaurant week.
What I had (sea food pasta with cream sauce) was excellent and I was totally satisfied with it, but more generally, I would like to have a greater choice of fish. For example, you once had an excellent trout dish, but I have not seen it for many years now. You have all sorts of fish on display at the restaurant, but most of them are not on the menu. Theoretically, we should be able to order whichever fish, as long as it is on display.
The waiter we had that evening was great. He was quietly attentive, not pushy but convincing in his explanations, willing to accommodate our special preferences, and knew exactly when to check on us and when to leave us alone.
Brought a friend for the 1st time, it was really quiet and was so full when we left.
This was a special anniversary and this is a special restaurant. White tablecloths, nice spacing between tables, outstanding food and service. We cannot say enough good things. If you want a meal where you are not rushed and you love seafood, this is the place.
This low rating is for their waiter. Not for the restaurant. The food was nice, slightly pricy (even for downtown DC). The restaurant was beautify and sufficiently quite for business discussion. They placed desserts on the entrance area which was a nice touch. So, the restaurant actually deserved a solid 4 stars.
Regarding the waiter, he needs to be better trained. His job is to serve, including accommodating reasonable requests from customers. I had a business lunch there on 8/7. I ordered Chop Salad and asked the dressing on the side. The waiter told me they cannot put dressing on the side and assured me that the dressing was very light and I would like it. For entree, I ordered grilled shrimps, squids, etc. Again, I asked if they can go light on oil. The waiter again told me that they cannot do it and said it is olive oil and very light. Since it was a business lunch, I decided not to argue with him any more and trusted what he told me.
When the salad came, it was so slaughtered with dressing! It was way too greasy than I like my salad. Similar things happened to my grilled seafood. I think their food is decent, but their waiter is terrible.
I do not believe asking dressing on the side and asking grilling to go light on oil is reasonable requests. Since I go out to eat a lot and prob will come to this restaurant again. I hope someone from this restaurant read my review and train that waiter better! He ruined my otherwise a great experience. Also, if I am waited on by this very same waiter again, I would immediately walk out (or tell the host that I do not want him to be my waiter)! That is how much I dislike that waiter. He ruined my experience with this beautiful restaurant.
A taste of Greece in downtown DC. Grilled royal dorado was super fresh and simply cooked, just as in a true Mediterranean seafood restaurant. Perhaps a bit expensive, but really good food and service.
Went went to Kellari Taverna for their weekend bottomless brunch and had a great time. There's a 3-course menu with lots of variety. The grilled calamari was our favorite appetizer. The staff was friendly and they certainly keep your glasses filled. My only dislike was that the Mimosas and Bellinis are made with a very inexpensive Brut champagne AND they serve it in a traditional wine glass as opposed to a flute - that means it's not as light or sweet and the bubbles fall flat quickly. But, I guess that how they still make money on their bottomless brunch because you won't drink as much! However, still an Excellent Groupon Value and we're going back!
Reliable source of a nice lunch in an area that lacks a large number of tablecloth restaurant options. Fish specials are usually quite good. Service is quick.
Used a Groupon for the Sunday Night Lobster dinner. Appetizer, Lobster and Dessert with a glass of wine for a fixed price. My wife chose the Lobster Bisque for her app and I had the grilled calamari. Bisque was potato-based but still creamy and flavorful. Lobster was a decent-sized and tasty. Came out without the shrimp sauce but the kitchen quickly replaced it. Desert selections are nice. We chose the Galatabourecko. House wines are fine.
Note: If using a Groupon remember to note that on your Open Table reservation. We didn't know to do that so they didn't have enough lobsters available which meant we only got one. I chose a NY Strip as a substitute since they have a good grill. It was cooked to my temperature and very tender.
We love seafood so Kellari was a gem. We liked the ceviche appetizer but the bronzino main course was more than memorable. Will be back to try other dishes.
We like using a Groupon for their weekend Brunch and Sunday night Lobster specials.
My second time at this restaurant and I would go back again and again. We have sat at the bar and got food from the bar menu twice - excellent value and top quality food. Absolutely love the Octopus and the shrimp bruschetta. Can't wait to go back again!
desert - chocolate mouse was so hard and couldn’t eat at all
Excellent food and very good, unobtrusive service. Always a pleasure dining at Kellari.
Very nice service! The food was great! I try new things off the brunch menu all the time.
Worst restaurant ,menu with New York steak ,and they didn’t have .
running out of compliments for this outstanding place--the most welcoming place in D.C.!
