"Many people ask me if this is Greek Cuisine , and I don’t know what to compare it to, either to Greek cuisine of 1962 or 2009, but my answer is a seafood restaurant with a Greek Flare to it " Chef Gregory Zapantis.

Kellari Taverna is very sensitive to sustainable seafood.

Service was much lass good than previous visits - intrusive. Also, the table was jostled multiple times by other servers. Disappointing since I’ve enjoyed previous visits.
Great fresh fish!
Grilled seafood is excellent. Wonderful selection of wines. Server was superb. Noisy during happy hour, but afterwards the vibe changes. I like.
Business Lunch is an amazing deal. Good portions. Super delicious
Excellent food and service for an elegant business lunch with white tablecloth. Would be nice for lunch to celebrate a special occasion as well. Will be back!
My sister and I have been to Kellari on several occasions and a Sunday brunch there never disappoints. Chris always makes our dinning experience enjoyable. It's a great way to dine on Sunday afternoon.
Wonderful brunch and pricey fixe was delicious!
Faye was a thoughtful server who come by just at the perfect times!
The prix fixe dinner is definitely worth it. The food we had was tasty and the servers were friendly.
This is a nice and classy restaurant. High profile K Street location. A great place for business meetings. I had the mixed platter of shrimp, calamari and octopus. It was delicious! It was all grilled or sauteed rather than fried, which I love. The calamari was cover with a greek lemon sauce. It was pricey at $32 but a lot of food. I look forward to going back for more.
Great food, service was very quick! Thank you!
I went there with my fiance to celebrate our three years anniversary. We waited over one hour to get our main course and it was cold, they brought me a new plate but at this time the food had no flavor. The restaurante was packed due a party that they we're hosting and maybe that was the reason. I was expecting a really good experience due to all the reviews I read from this place. What a disappointment! Also, the music was so loud that we couldn't even talk and pretty much all the restaurant was reserved for this party and they seated us in a really small place. The only thing that was good was the dessert that the waitress brought to my fiancé as a compliment because she didn't ate anything. Our server was good but overall experience was really bad.
REALLY BAD EXPERIENCE AT THIS PLACE
We've been to Kellari Taverna before for the Groupon brunch, and it was just as much a value and delightful meal. The grilled calamari and spanakopita excellent. The day's special Filet of flounder wrapped around zucchini with pico de gallo was delicious. Our server, Chris, took great care of us and we will always ask to be seated at one of his tables.
This is actually one of my favorite restaurants. Unfortunately, our server was not very good. She never really introduced herself like she did to other tables. They were unusually busy so some items were no longer available. Instead of updating us when we asked what about the other dishes. Her response was she removed it from the bill we wouldn’t be charged. Then come tip time now she wanted to be friendly. She shoved my girlfriends hands to put a plate on the table it was just really odd! Not how any over experiences have been handled there previously. I spoke with the manager on duty. My food was excellent but kind of sad a birthday celebration and first time dining there with family wasn’t as great as I anticipated. I still love the restaurant and will encourage others to dine there. Just left a bad taste in my mouth!
Food was too expensive for the quality.
Kellari never fails to maintain its standard of excellence. Honestly it is the best grilled calamari in the city- my absolute go to every time at Kellari.
The food at Kellari is definitely high end and for the value you can't beat it. Like Artic Char over a bed of spinach risotto and salad and dessert for $30 for lunch? Unreal....and oh so yummy. Definitely go if you're downtown, its worth it. The hummus is good, the squid and calamari is delicious. Go you won't be sorry.
My wife ordered Lunch set menu. The Sardine she wanted to try was not available (servers said for weeks). I ordered Seafood trio, jumbo shrimps was way salty and very acidic, the chef must had seasoned it twice. Seafood seems to be fresh and in good quality. We love their olives. Our server recommended a Greek white wine was very delicious. Too bad that I don't understand and remember the name. We would like to go back and try their full dinner menu.
Love the brunch. Bellinis are wonderful. Calamari is the absolute best
Excellent food and service, can't really comment about ambiance (snow emergency in DC meant very few customers).
Groupon Sunday lobster was chewy and not tasty. Avoid.
The food was delicious! I highly recommend the calamari starter; it's the freshest I've had in a while. My only complaint is that the tables are so close together that you can overhear others' conversations without even trying and it feels claustrophobic. The food more than makes up for that though!
The food was very dry for the first time. I've been going to years.
Great experience, friendly and knowledgable staff. Brunch was great. Will likely recommend it to others.
Waitress passed our table but catered to other 3 tables. Patron at other table had to get her attention, then told her about our request for dessert, after 2 requests for dessert menu. Water glass was empty before it was refilled. No not water,in bathroom sink!
The salads and seafood we ordered were terrible, as if made by a bored apprentice in a big hurry. A total waste of money by anyone's standards. Only our appetizers were acceptable quality.
We had a small retirement luncheon for one of our colleagues. We picked the perfect place ... the food was excellent, service was over the top ... and overall enjoyable time. I’d go back in a heartbeat!
That was great..
Delicious and fresh! The waiter was very knowledgeable and the food was authentic. Wonderful meal.
Great seafood and fish. Great service
The quality of the food at Kellari is inconsistent. We had not been there for a while and on the whole, we found the experience a bit disappointing. We did not like the new dish they bring with the bread, the old one with olives and radishes was much better. We had the King Prawns for appetizer but they were overdone and did not taste that great. You need to be careful when you cook a delicacy (almost 50& per lb). The sea bass ceviche was good. I had a whole fish Tsipoura that was very good and fresh (being from Spain I insisted on having the whole fish served to me as such). Unfortunately my husband had the Dover sole, one of their most expensive fish on their menu at almost 50$ per lb and it was not good at all. It did not taste fresh and was really overdone. I guess in an effort to conceal its lack of freshness they had put capers and spices on it, killing the little sole taste it had. It really did not taste anything like sole. Very disappointing. Next time I go, I will make sure I choose the fish myself so I can look at its eyes to make sure it is fresh. Finally, they used to give you some sweets with the bill but nothing came this time.
Whole branzino was excellent as was the saganaki. Grilled calamari was delicious.
Food was terrible. I had the three course lunch. Each course was bad
Friday night is hopping. They bring in live Greek music every Friday. Definitely feels authentic and sounds authentic.
Every table was taken and it was not noisy at all. The food was excellent. Haven't been in a while but plan on visiting again soon.
Work lunch. Good food small portions. Remember your afternoon snack
My first time. Excellent! There was a fixed price menu which was quite a bargain. Had the sardine appetizer, bass, and yogurt cheese cake. Wonderful. The bass was superb. The yogurt cheese cake was light and a revelation. The server selected a perfect Greek wine. A well-spaced dining area. I've wanted to go because I saw Ted Leonsis enter the restaurant. I figured he must know Greek restaurants in this town. I'll be back!
had a group in last night--everything especially the service from the wonderful bar staff was outstanding!
My only complaint is that I was so full after our appetizers that we didn’t order an actual lunch! The hummus with olives and warm bread on the table was a nice touch! I don’t live local, but it will be a MUST EAT on my next trip!
We were in the area for a conference and didn't know it was restaurant week, so finding a place for dinner was challenging. Pulled out OpenTable and went with the closest place that sounded good which could accomodate us. What a nice surprise! They had a restaurant week special menu, too, which was quite economical and gave us a nice taste across the board. The food was wonderful and the portions were just right. The only downside was that there was a birthday party happening in the larger side room and I think the kitchen may have gotten backlogged with that, as there was an excessive wait between our entrees and dessert.
The food was amazing.
