"Many people ask me if this is Greek Cuisine , and I don’t know what to compare it to, either to Greek cuisine of 1962 or 2009, but my answer is a seafood restaurant with a Greek Flare to it " Chef Gregory Zapantis.

i have meant to write before--there is no place that combines quality food with quality service and atmosphere like Kellari. To a person everyone who works there is exceptional. It is a joy to go there each time I do and will be there tonight in fact.
Used their Groupon Sunday Night Lobster Dinner deal for a 3-course meal well worth the cost. Started with a glass of house wine (included) and their complimentary bread basket and mixed olives plate. Next came our apps. I chose grilled calamari and received a large serving of sliced, toothsome (but not rubbery) pieces with a nice char flavor. My wife had the soup special (cauliflower and mint) which she really enjoyed. We both chose the grilled (steamed offered as well) 1.5 Lb lobster which was well prepared and easily removed from the shell. Our Galaktoboureko (semolina custard-filled filo "pie") for desert was a good-sized portion with a drizzle of sweet syrup that made a nice completion for a tasty and filling meal. Recommended for food, service and nice ambiance.
Our waitress, Agnes, was so delightful and made the entire meal so pleasant and completely about us! I loved every second of this dinner!
We always enjoy dining at the Kellari Taverna but our last visit was particularly outstanding in terms of the service and the perfectly prepared fresh fish. The waiter went out of his way to discuss the aperitifs and wines and brought complimentary desserts.
Great, tasty, authentic, fresh, and a lot of variety Greek food. Prcey but worth it.
Wonderful food and excellent service.
Best restaurant experience in a long time! Portions are so generous. Food is fresh. Service amazing.
Excellent service, consistently (9 years) great good, easy conversation.
Food was OK. Rather pricey.
i had a nice time with good food mimosas and bellinis
I’ve eaten at Kellari a few times, dinner, happy hour, lunch. Each time the food is great and the service is unbelievably slow. Dinner took 3 hours (on a Thursday with reservations) and I had to get the hostess to find the waiter 4 times. For happy hour, the bar tender ignored us (empty bar) until I walked to the end of the bar and asked if we could order. Lunch was the best service but took 90 minutes for the business lunch.
I think it is too frustrating to go back which is unfortunately because they do a good job with the food.
A great meal, and delightful staff, the lamb salad is delicious
I’ve been trying to find a good sit down Greek restaurant in DC, so had high hopes for Kellari. It thoroughly disappointed on service, authenticity of food, quality of food, and price.
Excellent restaurant! Its "Thalassina" is a superb dish; perfect for lunch or dinner.
Always a safe bet particularly if you like seafood!
I do not usually write reviews for restaurants but wanted to submit one based on the terrible service I received during a recent lunch. The waiter, Edward, was so incredibly rude. He did not explain or provide adequate responses to questions and then when I turned down dessert, commented on my entree choice as being "quite large." It was absurd. It's a shame because I really like the food here, but would not risk getting seated at Edward's table again.
Their mushroom and corn risotto is delicious, as is the fresh fish. And, their prix fixe lunch and brunch menus are some of the best values in the area.
Wait staff was very helpful and attentive to our needs drinks were never empty and the food was expertly prepared. We thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance and our brunch and would recommend this restaurant to everyone
A favorite place with warm welcome & excellent food!
It was the most wonderful dining experience we've had in years. The service the Ambiance and the food were above reproach. This is our new favorite restaurant
It deserves 6 stars in a scale of 1-5. Love this place. My clients thoroughly enjoyed it and it wasn't time wasted because the food and service was superb.
Consistently great food and great service!
Great experience !!!!
excellent food with attentive but not obtrusive service
only negative is they do not give open table points (only discovered after dining) otherwise highly recommended
Fresh fish but you better have forty minutes to wait while they clean and grill it.
We make a trip to Kellari for their Brunch on weekends when we are in the city and enjoy the visits. A popular spot with a good selection of Fixed-Price and A-La-Carte choices. Some specials as well. The included Belinis, Bloodys, Mimosas and Champagne and are served abundantly and are satisfactory for the price. Service is great. Food is consistently above average in freshness and flavor. Fresh seafood is on display showing pride in their products. I like their Grilled Calamari and Soup appetizers. The Lamb Salad is loaded with extremely fresh Spinach and complimented by a selection of treats that I'll let you find when you try it. Some tables outside on the sidewalk if you have good weather but beware that, for me, the tables are set a little high for the chairs and eating feels somewhat awkward. Think Booster Seat. Street (pay) parking and a garage below that you exit/enter through the building next door. Guard lets you out/in.
I really have no complaints about food or service- the restaurant is one of the nicer in DC for the kind of fresh food you get there. Service was a bit slow, but not altogether bad and not worth pointing out as a negative here. The one complaint I would register is that the entire beer tap apparatus was down- meaning you could not get any draft beer for the entire meal. When I wanted a draft IPA for before the meal, the server informed me that draft beer was not available for the entire meal and that it was down all day. For the prices they are charging here, this really isn't acceptable. If you're going to try to be known as one of the nicer restaurants in the city and charge like it, you can't have this kind of thing impact the dining experience.
we have been to Kellari several times and it is one of our favorite DC restaraunts. The food is always excellent. I highly recommend Kellari for its excellent seafood and authentic Greek dishes.
Kellari on K Street is a Greek-style restaurant that features terrific for fish and seafood. The ambience is nice. The room allows for quiet conversations. The fish is well prepared. Spanokopita is good. The one dish that is not up to par is the crab cake, which does not use lump crabmeat.
CELLAR is our go to eatery when we want an delicious meal that is healthy and fun. The service is always friendly and helpful, and the consistently provide us with a quality dining experience.
We had the jumbo shrimp, spanakopita, and the calamari appetizers. They were all really totally yummy. The bread they provide is amazingly delicious, and so was the accompanying hummus. We ordered entrees, but by the time we got through the appetizers and bread we were too full for the entrees. But everything we ate was incredibly tasty! We will be back.
Best fish in the city! Mediterranean tasty fish. Good decor and service
Great food and service. Wonderfully quiet and romantic. Could use candles on the tables.
Never received our ordered appetizer of calamari. No explanation despite 1/2 hour wait and ended with the delivery of our entry. Very disappointing!
Good lunch place downtown. Service was great. Food was good. Pastries were a nice touch. Bathrooms were very dark.
This is a high end place - wonderful food, good service, elegant presentation. Expensive, but on mondays, bottles of wine are half price!
Great brunch! Generous with mimosas or other brunch cocktails. Good menu selections.
Both the calamari and the lamb chops were extremely tough and rather tasteless. Only the cheesecake was O.K. I was very disappointed with the dinner here and cannot recommend this restaurant.
Great place for a special weekday lunch! Lovely restaurant.
