"Many people ask me if this is Greek Cuisine , and I don’t know what to compare it to, either to Greek cuisine of 1962 or 2009, but my answer is a seafood restaurant with a Greek Flare to it " Chef Gregory Zapantis.

Best Greek in town, including zatynya. Ambiance, drinks, service and food all amazing.
It was great experience. Chris was a great waiter and always attentive.
The whole pompano was delicious. The octopus and calamari appetizer was also very good. Definitely we will be back!
If you like Seafood and if you like Greek food and if you happen to have an expense account, then that is a great choice. Located right on K street in the middle of high power and high income neighbors that are the frequent patrons, this place is worth the $, but regular us can only afford $300 dinners only so often. Still, as far the menu, the quality of the food and the service, you get what you pay for, which is lot on both counts. If I could afford it would become a regular.
good for business lunches. Food was good. pretty authentic for an upscale greek restaurant
I loved this restaurant. It was great form the moment we entered until we left. The wait person was magnificent. She let us take a lot of time deciding what we wanted and helped by telling us we could share anything we wanted. We had a bunch of appetizers, more food than we could eat. We had on her recommendation, a bottle of a Greek Syrah which was delicious. When we left there was a try of Greek cookies which had just been put out and napkins so people could help themselves. Also delicious. I would go back in a flash. But be warned, it is not cheap.
Visited Kellari Taverna for Brunch again. Another wonderful Sunday afternoon with mimosas and delicious food. Will return again and again!
Great Greek dishes in a sophisticated presentation....the business lunch pre-fix is a great value with flexible options. Best Dining option in that neighborhood.
We came to celebrate my daughter's 30th birthday. I wanted delicious mediterranean food in a quiet setting so we could talk and not feel rushed. The servers were attentive, yet gave us plenty of time for talking and celebrating. It was perfect on all points.
Great dinner Sunday night. Fresh fish selection terrific and preparation superb.
Excellent food and service in a beautiful atmosphere.
Excellent service. Food a bit under-seasoned. Not “really”
Greek. But fun overall meal.
The fish was over cook and very dry and came on table cold. Very expensive for the ingredient they used. Barely edible, sorry to pick this place for seafood lovers. Huge disappointment !
Was drawn by the bar menu posted on line but failed to realize it isn't available on Sun. Fish is king here, priced by the pound, served whole (minus the head), and simply grilled with some lemon juice and capers. Simply loved the Branzino but I should have picked another side instead of the asparagus, as that was also simply grilled. Decent wine list and I went with a light Greek red that I really enjoyed.
My sister and I are regulars and have been going there for the past three years. I usually don't write reviews, but I realized that I've been taking the wonderful service as the norm which we know is not the case. The hostesses are always present and ready to greet you with a smile. The staff works together to keep things moving. The gentleman who bring out the food is amazing. However the topper of it all is our waiter Chris. He is PHENOMINAL. He professional, attentive and funny. He knows the menu and always give you great pointers. It's a great spot for brunch and we'll will definitely be back.
We enjoy going to Kellari Taverna at least twice a year for the Prix Fixe weekend brunch. The hosts and waiters are uniformly professional and polite: I've never noticed a difference in how they treat Groupon customers versus "full-price" patrons. Unlimited house-variety champagne, mimosas, and bloody Marys arrive with a complimentary dish of hummus and Greek olives / bread to help establish a relaxed, party atmosphere even before the first course arrives. There are a handful of available appetizers; the spanikopita is one of our "go to" choices (but we wish it more closely resembled my adopted Greek godmother’s spanikopita: flaky light and cut into more easily shared slices) and we wish Kellari Taverna would offer even one or two more (small) appetizer options that are not a soup or salad. (Please consider offering the "grilled calamari" as a "fried calamari." You've already got the calamari in the kitchen and on the menu. Maybe even with a tart Greek yogurt-dill dip?) Main courses can include the chef's choice of the day, perfectly poached eggs Benedict over lox, seafood pasta, fish, and a very good Kellari burger among other choices, but we regret to say our favorite crab cake sandwich was removed from the set-price menu earlier this year. Desserts include a Greek cheesecake, galaktoboureko (sort of a Greek take on crème brulee: custard in a crispy phyllo pastry shell) and fresh fruit. (Unfortunately the previously available chocolate mousse cake has also been removed from the set price menu as a dessert choice.) The brunch, even without Groupon, is a good value in a white tablecloth venue; all in all, a lovely way to spend 2 hours on a lazy weekend.
This was my second time at Kellari for brunch. Everything I've had there was delicious, prepared with fresh ingredients, and you can't beat the bottomless brunch deal we got with groupon.
I had spanakopita, lamb salad, and baklava. The only thing I didn't love was the lamb meat. It was large thin slices of meat and the flavor wasn't great. I guess I'd expected kebab like chunks with more spices. My friend had the calamari which was grilled and so yummy.
Other than that, fantastic food and service. We sat for over three hours chatting and didn't feel rushed at all. We'll be back!
I used to love this restaurant and that is why since we had a weekend getaway in DC i wanted to take my closest friends there. The food was ok but it wasn’t as good as always and the bad part is that we saw a mice running through the restaurant and when we mentioned it to the waitress she didn’t give the needed importance or attention and that ruined it for me.
Enjoy the bottomless Mimosa/Bellini/Champagne/Blood Mary brunch. Food enjoyable especially Greek items. Faye, waitress, is really good.
The ambience and service were excellent and the food delicious.
Food was good but they sat me and my guest in the bar, though I had a reservation through Open Table and had requested a quiet table. That wasn't too bad in terms of noise, but I was surprised.
The food was okay but the service, and in particular, our waitress was HORRIBLE... she ruined the whole evening. She was extremely short and I felt we were "interrupting" her night. Food was basically thrown at us during the evening. A few minutes later, I saw her over talking to one of the other waiters and she was crying, then went to the hostess desk and was complaining about something there....obviously, something was going on with her and she took it out on her customers. Seriously, I can empathize if someone is having a bad night but it was my 30th wedding anniversary and she ruined our night! If it is THAT bad, go home. I would include her name in this review but she never told us her name either. When we walked out after paying (over a $150 check), she was back in the bar area complaining to the hostess again.... DON'T GO IF YOU EXPECT A NICE EVENING OUT!
Fantastic greek restaurant. Just like being in Greece. Great service, very quiet for being in a city. Great selection of menu items and everything was cooked perfectly. Especially recommended if you are a seafood fan, it seems to be their specialty, but they have plenty of greek dishes that are common in Greece but not so common in the US.
Definitely worth a trip!
Service was top notch but the food really missed the mark. I had a seafood risotto that had a ‘fishy’ taste to it; it left me with the impression that the seafood wasn’t so fresh. My husband had the steak and was incredibly disappointed in that it was kind of greyish looking and tasteless. For the price point, this place misses the mark.
I will continue to rave about the extraordinary time I have each and every time I go. It is even better when I can impress out of town friends which was the case the other night. It is ALL about the people who work there--they make it special.
Excellent Mediterranean style grilled seafood. Good selection of fresh fish on ice. Consistently delivers good value.
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and service. The drinks were plentiful and the option to pick beverages interchangeably was impressive! I will return...
Just went for happy hour. Nice menu. Have had dinner in the past. Amazing whole fish.
One of the best brunches in DC!
Great Sunday brunch great staff. We live this place
Interesting fish selection
Visiting Washington for the weekend, We went to Kellari for the first time, influenced by the many positive reviews on Open Table. I can honestly say Kellari outdid themselves. Service by Theodora was impeccable, food was simply sensational as was the wine. Even better it was nice and quiet on a Saturday night. We truly loved Kellari’s age crushing touch was the desert cookies out for nibbles on the way out.
Exceptional job to All at Kellari and we will be back for sure.
Had the Solomos Benedict Style (good smoked salmon combo) and chef special (grouper - good, not great) for brunch. Definitely recommend the Baklava and Galaktoboureko desserts; the Calamari and Spanakopita were tasty for appetizers. Had enough food that the desserts were packed for home. The champagne that came with brunch was very smooth - I believe a brut equivalent. Overall very nice meal, not incredibly crowded on a Saturday (11:30 reservation) and a good deal with the Groupon. Our second time here, likely to visit a couple of times a year going forward. Well worth the visit.
My lunch was a happy birthday lunch and I picked this restaurant because of its convenient location on K Street in D.C. What a treat - the food was absolutely wonderful. We each ordered the "business lunch" which I highly recommend. The sea bass was cooked perfectly and the chocolate mousse at the end was wonderful. I hear the happy hour there is great and I plan to go at some point.
Delicious food, big portions, well served, quiet table, reasonable price, great experience!
A lovely restaurant for a romantic dinner date. The waiter was very friendly and helpful, and the food (especially the amazing grilled calamari) was fresh and delicious.
The food was really delicious and the server was excellent.
Service was fantastic!
Took my parents here for their anniversary and my Mom's birthday. The waitress immediately presented us with complimentary champagne! The bread and eggplant spread and olives was very nice. We shared the Greek salad, lobster risotto, salmon over polenta, and green beans in a tomato sauce. All of it was excellent and of very satisfying portions. When we were discussing dessert amongst ourselves, the waitress overheard us and told us she had already ordered us a complimentary dessert! Out came a platter of baklava, Greek yogurt and berries, and galaktoboureka. Plus a lit candle in the center. So wonderful! We will definitely return.
