"Many people ask me if this is Greek Cuisine , and I don’t know what to compare it to, either to Greek cuisine of 1962 or 2009, but my answer is a seafood restaurant with a Greek Flare to it " Chef Gregory Zapantis.
"Our Menu of Simply Grilled fish but simplicity with elegance ! " Chef Gregory Zapantis.
"we are bringing to the people of Washington Something they haven’t experienced before " Chef Anthony Acinapura.
Kellari Taverna is very sensitive to sustainable seafood.

It was a wonderful experience got to enjoy the food and the service was excellent
I’ve been to your restaurant probably 30 times over the last couple of years. I will never go back again.
The waiter who served our table was absurdly disinterested and abrupt. He asked if we want to drinks and immediately walked away saying He would come back before we even had a chance to order. He told us it was half-price wine night yet somehow literally the first three bottles we chose were not in stock. He was extremely unhelpful with the menu, bring over one salad for six people to share. He brought over wine, then after serving two glasses put the bottle in the corner about 50 feet away
and a while later he decided to come and give us more. When the servers came with the food nobody had taken our empty appetizer plates and and they kind of looked at us us it was our job to move them.
The food itself was fair. I had fish which was supposed to be filleted yet half the bites I took had bones in them.
I can honestly say I don’t remember the last time I was so disappointed with a restaurant We spent upwards of $500 including the tip for five of us. And gibing the waiter 80.00 was ridiculous. I will never come back again
Overall quality and portioning of food does not justify the prices being charged, it seems to be expensive for the sake of being expensive, not because extraordinary culinary talent or ingredients are being used. $350 for an early dinner for 5 adults did not equate to the value of the dining experience.
My husband and I, dine here often, and it is one of our "go to" restaurants, when entertaining friends, and colleagues! The service is always terrific, and the food exceptional. My husband and I, always ordered an appetizer, followed by a main course. The problem was, we always had leftovers; okay, not always a problem, but..... With that being said, we now share a Greek salad, which is the perfect combination, of fresh feta cheese, cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, mixed with olive oil, and just enough seasoning. We each order an appetizer, as our main course (trust me, there is more than enough for a meal). The Greek wine selection is excellent, and the staff knowledgeable.
Two sidebars. The restaurant has a terrific happy hour, with reasonably priced drinks, fresh cheese, and olives. One of my favorite perks, is when leaving, they always a tier of Greek cookies, etc, which is a nice compliment, to a larger meal. Make sure to take one, on the way out!
Should you choose to dine at Kellari, they will not disappoint!
Made this our last night dinner in DC. It was a great choice. Our waiter made excellent recommendations and the fish was excellent. We highly recommend it.
Great food and service.
Fay was our server and she was terrific!
Good food and service. Always note special circumstances and try to accommodate.
One of my favorite places to eat brunch. Everything is just excellent!
Food and service were excellent, as always. Lovely ambiance. Quiet enough for 6 of us to talk.
It's a very expensive place to eat, but worthwhile for a special event, just not for an everyday night out!
Had a wonderful lunch here last week. It was my first visit though I have wanted to try Kellari Taverna for a while now. All of the foods we ordered were fantastic - well presented and delicious. I knew I would like the restaurant but the prices are rather high and it prohibits coming here often. Obviously they can charge as they wish as the restaurant was packed! and I can appreciate why - the FOOD. I would heartily recommend Kellari Taverna. Enjoy
Salads and seafood were fresh and delicious. Nice space and good service.
Very expensive for the quantity of food provided. It was extremely noisy and crowded the night we went.
Very Well done!
My wife and I met here for an early lunch to celebrate her birthday. We were greeted and she was wished a happy birthday. After that, the experience went down hill. Throughout the 75 minutes we were there, the staff was constantly moving table and chairs around. A two-top was set up, moved, moved again, chair borrowed from and returned to our table, and then that table taken down.
We attempted to ordered some of the seafood dishes. No calamari, no tuna, no crab. My wife found something that was in stock - the salmon - and I moved away from the missing seafood to a burger. The food was excellent, and apparently the supply truck arrived while we were there as someone at a neighboring table successfully ordered a tuna salad.
Service was curt at best, but the staff was attentive enough. I was not blown away by my experience, and I hesitate to recommend it without calling ahead to ensure that they have half the menu options.
We had made a reservation for 12 for a business/social dinner. We arrived with 15 and the staff quickly and seamlessly accommodated us. The service was very, very good and everyone was pleased with the food. Overall, an enjoyable experience. We'll be back.
Have been here several times, and it's very much worth coming back. Seafood is the specialty, which they do exceptionally well. Grilled fish dishes are always well done. Greek style with tomato and vegetables (both fish entrees we had today) are the best. This last visit was for a graduation luncheon. There were eight of us; entrees included grilled rockfish, lamb salad, grilled seafood medley, grilled bronzino and shrimp with linguine. All were outstanding. Yogurt cheesecake was the dessert highlight. Service, as always, was first rate. Restaurant was full but not so noisy as make conversation difficult. Easily the best Greek restaurant in the D.C. area.
We celebrated my husband’s birthday at Kelleri during lunch. The food and service were excellent. The staff are friendly and the Greek food is delicious.
Great Location, nice accommodating staff. Good variety of food selections, and decent pricing. Quiet enough for a business meeting lunch.
The food was excellent. We ordered half dozen oysters, grilled calamari, lavraki, tsipoura, grilled asparagus, mushroom risotto. The fish is flown in from Greece and the freshness is evident with the first bite. The restaurant’s recommendation is to eat family style so I would recommend getting plenty to share. One fish per person is advised.
For a Saturday night at 8:30 we were surprised how relatively empty the restaurant was, even more so after tasting the quality of the food. Our server wasn’t the best but did not hinder the overall experience.
Would definitely go back as the selection of fish is impressive with many you don’t see often.
this is a great restaurant for a special occasion. Because of the price I would not come here on a regular basis but if you are looking to take someone special out for a special date night this is the place. Our waiter, Brian, was very personable and the ambiance of the place was top-notch.
$40 lunch but very fresh seafood, simply prepared.
Great seafood. This is a classy restaurant with delicious food.
Our dinner went well. Well prepared fish and oysters very fresh. At the end of dinner as we were finishing our coffee we saw (3) mice run playing across the near empty dining room. I pointed this out to the manager. SHe stated it was a real problem with the building. Very sad but I will not return any time soon.
Authentic grilled Greek seafood.
Can’t think of better seafood anywhere in DC.
Great service very over priced
I love this place! I have had a few business lunches there which have been excellent. But have also taken a very large group there for dinner - also excellent! The food is extraordinary and the service is very professional. I even love the tiny complimentary cookies on the way out! Any one who dines here will not be disappointed!
I got the special—Atlantic
Chard wirh vegetables. The fish was delicious! Will go back for sure.
We had requested outdoor seating and were disappointed to find that they no longer offer this as “they were too busy“Please consider re-instituting outdoor seating
Went for our son’s graduation. Picked it because we saw good reviews and we like Greek food. Have been to Greece and we eat at many good Greek restaurants in Miami
However, this place today was really bad
Risotto was the worse I’ve tried in my life
Linguine was ok
Fish was ok
Way overpriced for the quality of the food and the place the zero vibes
Waiter took the risotto back and told me he would sent me a linguini and he charged me as well
Would not go back at all
It was a 3 star experience for us. We were expecting Kellari DC to match the NYC location but it fell short in most categories... except price, the price was the same as Kellari NYC ;-). The Good: High-end decor, great authentic menu, nice waitstaff, nice hostess. The Bad: low occupancy, stale wine by the glass, and slightly above-average seafood dishes that took over an hour. I think ‘the bad’ can be easily corrected if Kellari DC gets the foot traffic up and I really hope they do because I love the menu.
Really great meal! Delicious, fresh, lovely presentation, wonderful & friendly staff. Perfect evening.
I wanted to try a new restaurant in downtown DC and found this one intriguing. Went for a late lunch and enjoyed my three course lunch for $29.95. Had sardines, sea bass and a Greek yogurt. All were very tasty and well prepared! The restaurant was basically one huge room with a bar on the side. There is a parking garage directly next door. I would recommend trying this spot for a quality healthy meal!
We arrived “just in time,” we were told, before several large groups came in. Well, looks like our timing was bad. We both ordered grilled sardines (which for some inexplicable reason had also been floured and deep fried, totally destroying their texture). Then we waited 45 minutes from the time our appetizers were cleared until we gave up and started walking out... just when the Dover sole came out of the kitchen. Flavor wasn’t great, timing made me late for travel, waiter said manager (who couldn’t be bothered to come to the table to apologize) offered only a 50% price break for our trouble. I insisted that the entrees had to be free of charge, and that’s what we settled on with the waiter. The waiter was apologetic about the delays but could not get it done. I had been to the DC branch 4-5 times previously, and the NYC branch a number of other times, but after this service and food experience I won’t be returning.
Service needs more professional teachings among water server to head waiter. Etiquette services in particular when not to interrupt guests. Timing is everything. Overall food was excellent except don’t order the Dover Sole as it was dry and tasteless with freeze dried taste. Poor choice. Rest is excellent.
Excellent food. Great service and absolutely nothing to complain about.
This is a really good restaurant for the quality of the food and the service.
Excellent lunch special - good value for money. Very tasty fish dishes.
Kellari Taverna does a good brunch, with a variety of pleasant choices befitting carnivores and vegetarians alike. It's bustling and the dining room is handsome. Service is attentive without being clingy.
Food is very good, though it doesn't push cuisine boundaries or get seriously exciting. But not everything has to be exciting. A solid reliable meal in a lovely environment is a good thing in itself.
The Mother's Day Holiday Brunch Pre-Select Menu was a great value. The food was excellent, presentation elegant and the Mimosas were perfectly prepared. Kellari Taverna is definitely a great place for a family and holiday celebration!
