Kefi always reliable. Excellent service and nice neighborhood feel.
We understand that they were busy and short-staffed but we got there before the rush and we had to ask for everything: for our order to be taken, for our food to come, to get the bill. It was a 2.5 hour lunch. It was embarrassing for me with my out-of-town company.
Sadly we had a horrible experience here. Waited over an hour for food. Obviously something amiss in the kitchen.
We had a 7:00 pm reservation and showed up a few minutes early. A man and woman were at the captain's stand, maybe two feet away. They pretended we didn’t exist. We stood there. And stood there. Eventually my wife said “Excuse me, we have a reservation”. Startled, they grudgingly took us to a nearby table.
We ordered Zucchini Fritters, two glasses of house wine, the shrimp with orzo for my wife and the Lamb Burger for me. The menu said that the Lamb Burger was made with ground pork. The waitress recommended I have the burger cooked “medium”. I agreed. She left.
We waited. After a half hour or so, the fritters showed up. We inhaled them. The plates were cleared. Then we waited for our entrees. And waited.
More apologies. The waitress offered us another glass of wine, on the house. Neither of us wanted more wine, but OK. The wine came. The food didn’t.
We had been in our seats more than an hour and twenty minutes when the entrees came. I tore into my “Lamb Burger”, and it was raw in the middle. Not rare, not medium, but raw. Pink and mushy. Raw pork.
I called the manager, who had already apologized for the delays. He asked if I’d like something else, and I said we’d already spent too much time there. I asked for the check and said I was not paying for the uncooked Lamb-with-Raw-Pork Burger. My wife ate her shrimp dish. It was good (though only four shrimp).
We waited in vain for a check. We were about to leave, when the waitress finally brought it. She said the manager had comped the appetizer and not charged us for the burger. I paid in cash and wrote on the check “You should be ashamed of the incompetent service”. We had been there over an hour and forty minutes. And still I never had dinner.
From the minute we walked in, the staff were inept. The greeters rudely ignored us. The floor staff showed up once in a while, while the food never did. And then, when it did, to serve raw pork on top of it all?
We won't go back.
Super slow service! Won’t be back!
The waitress was so friendly and attentive. The food was hot - and almost too hot but that's not a complaint. I will definitely come back here
At Feki we can find a very good Greek food in a very good venue of Manhattan. Very good bear too.
Kefi is always wonderful, the food special and the service excellent. But we 'fell' into the timing for a little publicized prix fixe menu which gave us some of the really good items for a low price. We hadn't planned on it, actually added a zucchini fritters mezze and it still was a bargain.
Always excellent - this time a better deal than even during Restaurant Week!
The food was good in respect to the price. The ambience was fine and not too noisy at the time we went. It took awhile for us to get our drinks. We had good service ultimately but the dessert description was misleading.
Kefi is a nice neighborhood restaurant whose Greek/Mediterranean menu is a welcome departure from the more typical Italian/American restaurants that predominate on Columbus Ave. Food is thoughtfully prepared and service is attentive. Nice wine list, including by the glass.
Great happy hour at the bar.
Met up with special friends. Wanted to enjoy terrific conversation and company with great food and drinks in a great setting. Kefi is all of that and a wonderful value at that!
We were excited to experience Kefi. We sat in the front bar room as the lighting in the upper mezzanine dining room was very bright. The food was good, especially the fish. Unfortunately the service was very poor. It may have been because our waitress had the back dining room as well as our table and did not check on us often. Both times we wanted additional drinks we needed to ask a busser to get our waitress.
Another unfortunate problem is the restaurant front doors were open as we were told the A/C was not functioning. Right next door is a bar and the smoke from their partons smoking out front entered the restaurant and was irritating.
Grilled fish was excellent. Service was attentive yet unobtrusive.
Fantastic service in a beautiful space and a short walk from the American Museum of Natural History. Tsaziki was awesome as was baklava, margarita, and chicken souvlaki. Fresh, beautifully prepared food.
Kefi is one of the best restaurants in the area and always delivers consistently fresh, delicious food with friendly and professional service. The mezze are authentic, and the menu is creative with offerings such as sheep milk dumplings with merguez, or braised rabbit with pappardelle. I usually choose from the "simply grilled" section, either a fantastic whole trout, or an impeccable piece of center cut salmon filet (though lamb and beef are also offered in this category). I don't usually like broccoli rabe, but Kefi's chef does a beautiful version that is delicious, smooth and mellow to accompany the grilled item. The wine selections are well differentiated and the staff really knows the varieties. Great spot. Kefi has been consistently excellent for the seven or eight years we have eaten there.
shared mezzes - beets, zucchini pancakes and warm feta cheese. all excellent followed by branzino, superb. terrific friendly service
Enjoyed Kefi for a date night on valentine's day .
It was our first time at this restaurant and it was absolutely delicious. We had the potato salad, the sea bass and the lamb chops and it was full of flavor cooked perfectly.
Great service and good drinks as well!
I can’t wait to come back.
I always enjoy a meal at Kefi and recommend it often. An UWS gem!
I didn't realize how large Kefi was! I was seated immediately, and was allowed to wait for my friend to arrive at my table (it's always annoying to have to wait for the whole party to get seated for a reservation). We were seated downstairs, which was equally as busy as it was upstairs and the atmosphere was arguably even better downstairs as well. The food was absolutely delicious and was prepared very quickly. Our server was really helpful with both food and wine recommendations. I'll definitely be coming back!
Food was greasy and bland. Salt and pepper didn’t help much. There are so many great Greek places in NYC. There is no need to revisit this one. I won’t be back.
I have been to Kefi many times and this time it was not as good as previous times. The service was a bit off. It took a long time for us to get our food and appetizers came out at various time, some with the main courses. Some main courses came out when most of us were finished. The chips that are normally so delicious we just ok. Any place can have an off night. I hope that the next time I go, it will be back to normal.
Unfortunately after dining at Kefi many, many times we were disappointed this last visit.
For whatever reason they do not have an outer door to keep the freezing wind from coming into the restaurant each time a new customer enters and we were seated in the front section (by request because it is quieter there). We had to wear our coats through dinner and still caught the strong breeze each time the door was opened. The service was a bit slow too. We were not sure when/if our meals were coming! Once we did get our food it was, as always, very good. We will return, but will never sit near the door in the winter again!
Service got the order wrong And tried to clear the plates multiple times while we were still eating. Seemed like they wanted to rush us out.
The moment I walked into Kefi, I was taken by the space. …Mediterranean and New York at the same time. Those huge glass windows created an open and welcoming space. Within moments I was warmly greeted. I waited for my four guests to arrive while enjoying a martini at the bar. It’s a great place to meetup. Our table in the dining room was waiting for us. We dined family style and loved the Grilled Octopus, YiaYia’s Meatballs, the Branzino, the Braised Rabbit over Pasta, the Brussel sprouts, the butternut squash tortalini and so much more. Don’t forget to order the dips to start. My advise. Try it all. We were joyous and had great conversation. The service was awesome. I can’t wait to go back.
We went for restaurant week and they gave us a special plate with a variety of dips.
There was so much food, we took the main course home. The appetizer of fried calamari was
so generous, so we left room for a delicious desert.
I always order the same 2 items, the grilled octopus and the grilled Lavraki with broccoli rabe.
Truly outstanding every time. The dips, meatballs and lamb burger are also just superb.
Very good food very good service. Our first visit. Will definitely return! The Branzino and Kefi salad was excellent!
Overpriced, uncomfortable chairs, dirty bathroom.
One plate didn't look clean at all.
There was a problem with communication with a glass of wine coming from one person when a bottle was ordered. With the glass gone and a bottle on the way, another glass of wine showed up from another person. With that finely cleared up, the food was good and service improved. The owner was easy to talk to and told us about his chef. We really liked the chef's twist on classics. We would definitely find our way back here the net time we are in town.
The place is bigger than I realized at first, two levels, but retains a cosiness and the welcome was warm and lovely. The octopus was a delight, and the chickpeas it was served on. DO NOT MISS EITHER. The fish, Levraki was a real gem of white buttery whole fish. My companion had the dorado I believe which she complained of it having too many bones. Not the Levraki baby... we had the warmed feta with pita another delight. The slight miss for me was the dessert. Spiced walnut cake and with maple walnut ice cream. It sounds divine and my companion loved it and I ate it but next time I will try a different dessert. Not cheap, not OMG. Enjoy!
Been going to Kefi for years - never lets me down. The staff is so friendly and really do a good job with recommendations! Thank you. Fantastic meal and service.
Had a great meal at this local neighborhood restaurant. My son ordered two rice pudding desserts because he said he had never tasted rice pudding as good as this one. The food was good, the wine was nice, our server was a STAR and we enjoyed our meal.
Kefi has great Greek dips and wonderful grilled seafood, at moderate prices. Definitely worth a trip to 84th St. and Columbus Avenue. Much, much, less expensive than midtown Greek seafood restaurants, and the fish is of comparable quality (although the selection is more limited).
Good Greek food, great value, very welcoming neighborhood restaurant good for lunch or dinner. Try the lamb burger with smoked mozzarella.
Excellently prepared fresh ingredients and a very nice accommodating staff. The portions are very generous and delicious. We have eaten at their other restaurant and have always been pleased. This is our first time at Kefi and we will return.
Very tasty Greek/mediterranean food. We had a bean soup which was very fresh, homestyle, tasty. The calamari were great as was the sangria. Had an excellent grilled salmon with broccoli and very tasty baklava. Greek comfort food and overall fun, relaxed vibe.
Excellent food and warm but not intrusive service! I loved Kefi, and plan to visit many more times in the future.
We have been to Kefi many times. The assortment of dips appetizer is consistently excellent, although somehow the quantity of pita bread supplied is not quite sufficient. The fish is always fresh and very well prepared. Prices are in line with the quality and service. The space is a bit noisy, and in the cold weather the upper level is drafty (there is no antechamber to the entry, so freezing air enters whenever the front door is opened.) The wait staff is attentive and efficient.
