About Keens Steakhouse
Keens Steakhouse, a classic New York chophouse, was already famous for its steaks and chops at the turn of the century. Founded in 1885, Keens has 90,000 clay pipes that line the ceilings – pipes once smoked by customers after dinner. Today Keens legendary mutton chops and dry aged prime steaks are still without equal in the city.

Keens Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
We did enjoy the restaurant. We were disappointed with how close the tables are next to each other. We were a group of 4 and they placed a single man at a table right next to ours by th e kitchen door. This definitely made me feel uncomfortable and you can"t chat chat the way you normally would. For the amount of money you spend at this restaurant I think the tables should be a little further apart. For this reason I would not go back
This is a classic steakhouse and has been good every other time I have gone. This time, however, the meat was not of the quality I am used to. Every person in the party that got a steak (cooked medium rare) commented on how the steak was very dry. Not really what you are going for at $60 a steak. Outside of that sides and appetizers were good. Service was good and didn't feel like they were rushing us out the door.
Several people recommended Keens telling us it is the best steak ever. We decided to try it and we were not disappointed! Absolutely wonderful! From the atmosphere to the service to the meal...perfect! We will definitely be back when we're visiting the city!
Three of us enjoyed a wonderful meal served by Nancy who was very gracious and welcoming.
The hostesses were very cordial and fulfilled our request to be seated in a room we requested. Our dining experience was enhanced by delicious, well prepared entrees and a dessert selection for the discriminating sweet tooth. My compliments to the entire staff for a memorable dining experience.
Wow. Great meal. We were greeted warmly, seated promptly. Do not even THINK of going here without a reservation. Great cocktails, amazing appetizers ( we had the oysters, which were fresh and briny.) Very attentive service. You will not get a better steak in NYC. I saw a lot of steaks served for two...brontosaurus sized portions. I had the filet, tender and cooked to perfection. Sides were Devine. Not for the faint of wallet, but WELL worth the price...a home run for steak lovers
3 for dinner celebrating a special event. The steaks are as good, or better than any of the other top quality steakhouses in NYC. Amazing selection of scotches, we had a couple MacCallan 25 yr olds, however, they were $50 more per pour than a couple other places we went to over the next couple days and the wine list should have had a better selection of top quality wines.
We enjoyed our dinner at this old-historic restaurant. We were seated within 10 minutes of our reservation. The hostess gave us a nice cozy table. This restaurant is decorated with memorable posters and pipes adding to an interesting dining experience. We shared the porterhouse steak which was enormous and very flavorful. However, much too large for 2 people Salad was fresh, crisp and mixed with a nice dressing. Bread was excellent. Lively atmosphere with a mix of business, couples & some families. Excellent service
The food was excellent but the service was very slow. We had a 7.15 reservation, we weren't seated for 10-15 minutes, waited for another approximately 20 minutes to even get a menu, and did not place an order until 8.10. Our server was not very attentive and it was difficult to find him to make additional orders.
The food was great, especially the filet mignon and the butter lettuce salad. Even the bread was great! The service was a bit slow (we sat without a menu for ten minutes, for example), but the staff was otherwise helpful and friendly. The only problem, however, was the noise level. It was off the charts, and my wife and I had to lean across the table to hear each other. We talked about how we need to learn sign language. There were tons of people, and all were having a good time, so I guess noise was inevitable, but I wouldn't go again because I prefer a quieter place.
Overrated. Steak was average. Lamb was very good however it didn't have the gamey lamb taste I was craving. This place gets very loud and very crowded. Feel free to wear jeans, tee shirt, flip flops or even shorts since a lot of people did. Best thing about this place is it is right next door to an Irish pub. Not across the street but next door. Try their own ale. You won't be sorry!
Not my first time and won't be my last. Service, as always, was top notch and food was great as well. My only complaint was with the host staff-they were snooty and condescending. Usually we have a great experience all around, this time was just good, but I am sure this was a fluke and things will be great on our next visit.
