About Keens Steakhouse
Keens Steakhouse, a classic New York chophouse, was already famous for its steaks and chops at the turn of the century. Founded in 1885, Keens has 90,000 clay pipes that line the ceilings – pipes once smoked by customers after dinner. Today Keens legendary mutton chops and dry aged prime steaks are still without equal in the city.

Keens Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
Keen‘s is highly recommended steak-restaurant who is satisfying all wishes of meat-lovers. We went to this restaurant during our stay in NYC and can attest its high quality of the dishes we got served:
- steak with salad
- lamb chop with green beans
The meat was delicate and tasted delicious.
This was the first time that I have been there and I was very impressed. The Food was Outstanding and the décor and history is really very fascinating. I will definitely recommend and repeat visits to this establishment in the future. The staff were responsive and the timing of the Meal (appetizers to the main courses, seemed to flow very nicely)
It took the waiter 10 minutes to get us menus. We ordered our dinner and within 2 minutes our starters were at the table. A clear sign they are not cooked upon order. Within two minutes of our starters being done our mains were on the table. I do not know any place that can cook a large plate of beef, lamb, and fish in 15 minutes. It would seem all of this was pre-prepared and just heated up. In addition, our beef was very very cold – completely unacceptable.
I have been dining with old friends at Keens Steakhouse during the holiday season for four or five years. I often ordered the cobb salad with steak and shrimp. This year the salad was very disappointing. It not only tested like it had been made awhile ago and stored in a refrigerator. But what was really unforgivable was the dressing or water that accumulated in the bottom of the bowl and ruined over half the lettuce. To enjoy the rest of the salad I had to spend five minutes fishing the limp lettuce out of the bowl. I should have said something but I was halfway through the salad when I realized the mess that was below.
Took my boyfriend here for his birthday it was by far one of the best steak houses. Everything was very iconic and tasteful. We ordered a dozen oysters (East and West coast) which was delicious along with the thick cut bacon which melted in your mouth. My boyfriend ordered the Munchop ( very good but a lot of fat on it )and I ordered a 2lb lobster that they deshelled for me. It was very tender and fresh one of the best I’ve had. You can even pick the lobster you want. We had two sides of creamed spinach and hasbrown they were cooked to perfection. We finished with a fudge Sunday and carrot cake. Everything was delicious. We ate upstairs and saw a lot of older men dressed up coming from work sitting by themselves enjoying themselves which was nice. Mix of attire people were either business dressed or casual but overall just a good place to eat food and enjoy the flavors. Waiters are very non chalent not in your face not asking you a million questions of how your dinner is. Overall good experience
Food taste was so weak taste .
You must need staeak source to eat steak oter wise you must need to use a lot of solt.
I think food price is over price compare to Wolfgang steakhouse.
If I spend same amount of money I definitely go to Wolfgang steakhouse more than keens steakhouse .
I never gonna go to keens steakhouse again.
I made a reservation several weeks ahead, but was seated for a Sunday evening business dinner in the entryway to the bar at a very tight table. It was a very busy and loud area. Our waiter disappeared and finally took our order 45 minutes after we were seated. The prime rib delivered was two very thin pieces stacked on each other, which was odd and I wonder if this is standard. We ordered medium rare but the meat was very rare. Our guest had recently had wrist surgery and requested that her meat be cut in the kitchen as if for a six-year old. The meat came out sliced in large pieces and she had to send it back to the kitchen to be cut in bite-size pieces. The waiter never came back to ask how our food was, so we couldn't send the rare dishes back to correct. Dessert menus were brought and 20 minutes later, the waiter asked if we wanted to order. At this point, it was late and we were ready to leave so we declined. This restaurant is one that I had been wanting to try, but I will not return.
Hands down the best steakhouse in NYC. Always look forward to dining here... the staff and ambiance is great, and the food is phenomenal. My wife and I had shared the chateaubriand and without surprise, it was cooked perfectly. The 3 sauces add a nice touch of flavor on the side. And you can't go wrong with any of their side dishes either. Can't wait to go back!
Our favorite restaurant in NYC! The staff is always attentive and the meals are consistently superb. Yes it is on the pricier side and yes it can be loud, but that is part of its heritage along with the clay pipes of old affixed to the ceiling and the enormous cuts of meat that are served.
Do make reservations in advance if you can.
Wow! This was an amazing experience -from the handcrafted gingerale to the melt in your mouth scallop/clam appetizer to the porterhouse for two that was to die for. There was more than enough steak for two but it was impossible to leave any on the plate. Every bite was a dream. Our server was businesslike but attentive and every need was looked after before we asked. Expensive but worth every penny!
Another great meal at Keens! I had dinner with relatives from Florida and they loved the experience. The Porterhouse was perfectly cooked. The thick-cut bacon with the Caesar Salad was a delicious start. The sides, as always, were a great complement and better than the usual steakhouse fare. I brought a couple nice bottles of Bordeaux, which were handled with care. The excellent service left nothing to chance and tied together a great evening out.
This was a return visit for my husband's birthday who LOVES steak AND Bloody Mary's - and Keen's does both of these to perfection! AND the Dover sole for us non-steak types was FANTASTIC with the excellent deboning completed at our table! The evening was a perfect ending to his celebration and we were once again happy to make this traditional visit - despite the cost! IF INTERESTED - go for it - but indeed PLAN AHEAD as you will be disappointed if you have a special day in mind - BUSY< BUSY place! Staff and wait staff wonderful - complete w/candle on the dessert as was mentioned re birthday when reserving. GO FOR IT!
I’ve been wanting to try Keens, but it took this trip to be successful in getting a reservation. The steak was everything I imagined it would be. I had the filet and a friend had the prime rib and both were perfectly cooked and salted - just melted in your mouth. The homemade ginger ale was a hit as well and so was the hot fudge sundae with homemade whipped topping for dessert. Unfortunately the service wasn’t that great. I ordered a second ginger ale and never received it and the waiter lacked any personality and wasn’t helpful about the menu at all. Great service should be a must for all great restaurants.
