Ke’ei is always special, we have been going for 15+ years, and the food, service, and ambiance have always been Big Island perfect.
great food, nice selection to choose from. I ended up with 2 appetizers for dinner so I could save room for the mango crumble ... and got a taste of my buddy's macadamia pie that was amazing. Live music for dinner while we were there, quietly playing so we could still have our dinner conversation and enjoy the music. Definitely returning next visit to Kona.
Amazing food on a beautiful island! Every time we go we are impressed with the high quality of food and service! Highly recommend!
Our food was great! Mahi was perfectly cooked.. music was enjoyable, perfect for dinner. Great experience.
Been here many times and never been disappointed. All aspects of our dinners have been excellent, vegetables, mashed potatoes, and either fish choices or meat. We will continue to enjoy this place every year we visit.
Keei Cafe consistently has great food and a very good wine list. However, service can be absolutely terrible. We were there last Saturday evening with another couple and had to wait 40 minutes - yes, 40 minutes- before anyone came by to take our orders. The place was packed but only had one wait person. This place would get rave reviews except that it is consistently under staffed - particularly on weekends.
All good...mahi mahi entree was fabulous as was the soup of the day...food served hot and live music was played in low tones, but the place is noisy as most places are where people are having fun and enjoying themselves in a place that serves alcohol...
This was our 2nd time we dined here during our stay. Was dreaming of their New Zealand lamb and had to return, and Keei did not disappoint! The staff is lovely, everything tasty and the place just has a great feel to it. They had a couple of locals playing guitars who at one point invited one of the patrons to sing a couple of songs and she was terrific. Another fun and memorable evening at Keei Cafe. Mahalo until we return next year!
very slow getting second course after first course. Slow getting desert . Had to get it to go. To hot fans werent on . wife waited in car while I got check. Need servers that arent playing the music.
Locals eat here... that says bunches. Leisure atmosphere where you can chill out with friends.
We have been going to Keei Cafe for many years. We know we will always have a great meal there.
Waiters were nice, but it seems like they had other priorities, rather than waiting on tables. Eventually, when they feel you’ve been underserved long enough, they try to help you.
Fantastic food , fantastic people - Mahalo Bobby & family for your consistent outstanding service and food !
This is our favorite restaurant on the island. Their fresh fish is always perfectly prepared . The service can be slow, but this is Kona so one can’t let that be an issue or you would never eat out. Wonderful Hawaiian atmosphere and live music that lets you still have a conversation. Good wine list that isn’t overpriced. This place is mostly undiscovered by the tourist set.
Everything about that ur experience at Keei Cafe was wonderful. The food was outstanding and didn’t leave us feeling bloated like often happens at other restaurants. We live close by, and will definitely be back! This is a must-do when in Kona!
We enjoyed an amazing Valentines dinner here. The staff was welcoming and super attentive - we wanted to enjoy our cocktails (great Manhattan by the way!) before ordering and even though it was a busy night we didn’t feel pushed at all. Both the NZ lamb and ribeye steak were delicious and cooked to perfection. We finished with a chocolate torte and mango crumble, both with vanilla ice cream to top off an amazing dinner.
Looking forward to returning before we conclude our trip!
It was busy, but once we were seated we felt that everything moved along nicely. It was Valentine's Day, so probably busier than usual but the service, food and beverages were wonderful.! We'll be back!
I love the Keei cafe for its ambiance, location, and food. The noise level in this small restaurant is too high when the musicians play. They need to lower their amplfiers so diners can converse without shouting. I have been here 4 times, all special occasions and the food is outstandong. However, service is slow and often the dishes are only lukewarm, having sat waiting to be served for too long by an always shorthanded staff.
Not a good experience.. 2 hour wait for food. Terrible service with no explanation. Food was good, but not worth the wait or aggravation . Note: we were compensated on our bill for the bad experience.. but still does not make up for ruined evening out.
We have been to Keei Cafe numerous times, and have always found it to be delightful. The food is wonderful, and there is always a special fresh catch addition for the evening which inevitably is worth having.
The Keei cafe was a wonderful end to our Hawaii vacation. A beautiful setting with wonderful food and wine was perfect for us. We will definitely make the Keei cafe an annual event. THANKS!!!
Salad took 30 min main dish came out right after so salad was not finished. We will be back hope service is better
Always love the fresh fish with the Thai sauce! Great service, lovely restaurant. A bit pricey, but worth the splurge.
Our reservations were for 6:30 PM which should not be considered really late. However, they were out of mushroom appetizer which I was going to have with a salad. It sounded so delicious that I was disappointed--so I then decided on the mushroom soup and, sure enough, that was no longer available either. So, I settled for a Greek salad which was very good but not enough for dinner. Server very apologetic and gave us a 'free appetizer' card for next visit which I thought was very nice. Service was excellent.
Nice dinner and evening.
Very simply, DO NOT GO. The four of us experienced the rudest, worst service we have ever had anywhere. Not just slow but bad. Ignored when we first arrived (staff was folding napkins), 10+ minute wait after we were seated by the musician . Numerous wines on their special list not available-fine but take them off then and learn your prices, dirty ("oh well, no one ever listens to me") wine glasses (lipstick), rolled eyes, lots of sighing and major attitude. Appeared to ignore other tables as well, especially if they asked for something. One person at our table did not get their appetizer; they were very loudly and flatly told they did not order one. Yes they did, so then we were told how busy and how short staffed they were. Food was just okay, not great. Steak cooked to correct temperature, MR, but tough. Duck breast was okay but very small, 4 tiny slices. Half chicken was fine, the Curry sauce good. Whipped potatoes were awful and tasteless. The major problem here is really the Front of House/Serving staff. The one server of two, is the niece of the Chef/Owner. She told us that the other owner is her Mother. Chef came to talk to us, sighed and told us he knows. Kept saying "I know". He would 'talk' to her, but he admitted he has several times. Nothing we told him appeared to be a surprise. Although he comped part of our bill this was not the point. The evening was spoiled. There are wonderful restaurants in Kona. This is not one of them.
The cafe always has fabulous food - the catch of the day has four different preparation options that are all amazing and food portions are generous - try the half roasted chicken or pork chops and you will take home a white box! The wait staff are so charming and helpful and the live music is just lovely. This restaurant is remarkable and highly recommended.
Fantastic food - leave room for dessert! We loved the relaxed vibe and friendly service.
Keei Cafe has been favorite of ours for many years. It has a charming and pleasant atmosphere, and everything from the fresh fish to the seafood pasta is always delicious. If you're not a seafood lover, give the delicious pork chops a try. The restaurant is not overpriced, plus we had two musicians singing softly as we enjoyed dinner.
The Cafe is always a delight to visit visit. The food is delicious and beautifully prepared.
Excellent food. Very nice wait staff. Worth the drive.
The food was great; the cocktails awful! The fresh mahimahi in lemon caper butter sauce with whipped potatoes was heavenly. The duck breast delicious. The Brazilian seafood soup wonderful. The coconut shrimp rice cakes were bland. The seafood pasta was good. Eggplant rolls were creative but needed more sauce. Noisy from the patrons and the highway in front. Warm wood decor.
Food was very tasty. Service was a little slow, but it was quite busy.
I would have rated this restaurant higher if they had more help. There was one woman for the whole the 20 table dining room. She was very pleasant as was the man who served the food but most tables waited quite a while to place their orders. Maybe someone called off??? The menu is limited but I have to say the ahi fresh fish special was wonderful.
We have been to the J Café many times over the years. This was a disappointing visit mostly because of the service. We sat at our table for over 20 minutes before anyone made contact. Then one hour after we got there and I asked for my salad to come before the entrées the waitress seem super flustered and then came back a few minutes later with the menu saying “we needed to do this again.“ She had completely forgotten him not only to put our order in but what it was that we ordered. If this works The fish entrées were outstanding but at $30 a pop seem overpriced. The spicy peanut salad was nothing more than a few lettuce leaves and addressing that was very vinegary.
Went with friends to try this cafe and it was a real treat! The place is lovely, the live music a nice addition, but the food was generous and exceptional. We tried the eggplant rollups and warm brie appetizers and both were excellent. Fresh catch of the day is offered with four preparations and we opted for the chef special of the day which was a lemon-based sauce. Generous servings of perfectly prepared fresh vegetables with all the meals were greatly appreciated. The men tried the half roasted chicken and pork chops - they both raved. Wait staff were so fast and friendly that all around it was a wonderful evening out.
Charming, low-key, casual, friendly service and very good food. The eggplant rolls were disappointing but fish entrées with choice of sauces were excellent.
We thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant! The food was delicious. The vibe was local and refreshingly earnest.
We were glad to find a charming place to eat. Food was great and service was excellent !
