Parking was a challenge to get out of. We parked in back and was in a marked spot however upon departure a SUV partially blocking driveway.
We sat on the slopping balcony at sunset. Vegetation in way of a potentially beautiful view.
Food was excellently prepared and flavorful. (Mahi mahi and steak)
Service was good.
We enjoyed the food and ambiance very much. The only issue was there seemed to be only 1 waiter for the whole restaurant so there were issues. We ordered the catch of the day specials which arrived after 30 minutes and we had to request the appetizer that hadn’t come (eggplant rolls, which were delicious). Our orders kept getting mixed up with those of the adjacent table all night and we were never asked if we wanted another glass of wine (which we would’ve declined as there were people waiting and we were likely overdue to turn our table over). It was busy and all the tables were full. Would definitely try again but we’re hoping they just had a sick call that night and they don’t staff the restaurant like that all the time!
Great food, ambiance and service! It a great find! Note, if you go during dusk hours, be sure to spray up as mosquitoes are plentiful!
We had a great time as first timers highly recommended
We will be back!
The best food we have had on the island ! Fresh, flavorful, creative. The atmosphere of this place is so peaceful. The menu is wonderfully diverse without being fussy. Immensely enjoyed every bite.
Friends took us to Keei Cafe last week as a thank you for watching their house. We didn’t realize they had reopened after shutting down during the pandemic. It is just as beautiful and friendly as ever. Plus they have expanded their menu and take credit card. Beware that if you use a credit card you will be charged 3.5%.
They still have local fish now with several preparation choices. The seafood pasta now has a pesto choice besides the tomato sauce. New is rabbit and duck breast. Both are hard to find on me yes in Kona.
The appetizer choices are also creative and good to share.
To honor my husband on Veterans Day we chose to go back to Keei Cafe one week after the visit with our friends. It is definitely one of our favorite restaurants.
We love Keri Cafe and are so happy it re-opened! It is our favorite restaurant in South Kona. Friendly staff, consistently great food and a wide varieties of wines.
Wonderful family owned business- friendly service and wonderful food!
Best seared ahí I’ve eaten, in a light and delicious lilikoi butter sauce. Super fresh vegetables, gently treated. We plan to return in the next couple of days, it was SO good. Good value, too!
Beautiful setting, great food and excellent service. We have been here multiple times and always a great experience.
We went for a friend’s birthday. He said he hadn’t had so much fun at dinner out in a long time. The food was excellent, as always. We do miss the second musician though. We hope he’s okay.
Excellent food choices and quality at fair prices. Service a bit slow but courteous. Great family atmosphere
A great meal, good variety on the menu, the ahi poke nachos were terrific, and they made a good martini.
It is so cute and the food is so good, but they need at least one more wait person
Lemon butter Mahi-Mahi was delectable. The sashimi was fresh and delicious. This is out new favorite spot, and we're bringing our Mainlanders here.
Wonderful atmosphere and excellent food. I am going back soon.
What a wonderful experience! Best atmosphere of any restaurant we've been to in our 5 days here--magical, actually, as we were serenaded by tree frogs! I had two appetizers for my meal (the special stuffed portabello and the eggplant rolls) and my husband had lamb chops. All was quite good. The mango cobbler did not disappoint. Very friendly and attentive service. The only disappointment was that there were very few customers. Go people, go!
Food is always good. Our only complaint was the noise. The musician started chatting with the drunken party next to us and it became obnoxious and destroyed any ambience there was.
We complained and they said they stopped serving them drinks. Still annoying.
Food is excellent.
Love this family owned restaurant! I’ve been going there for 14 years and was so happy they reopened post pandemic closure.
We live within a 15 minute drive of Ke’ei cafe. We were pleased to see a re-opening.
We prefer to have experienced servers and this was not the case with one attendant: Proper manners (not crossing the table with your body to fill water glasses (would be my tip); consideration of time bringing an expensive wine to table. Not cleaning (soiled or water stained cups in view of guests would be best).. General rules to a paying audience.
Food was spectacular thankfully…
Recommended by neighbor at our rental, and was for my son’s birthday. One thing this place has right - server Mika (sp?) She amazed with her attention to detail. Chef and kitchen team delivered - adapting preparation of Mahi Mahi to request. Only downfall was some of the assistance in providing speed of service actually was not very focused or attentive. But it was outshined by Mika - always delivering world-class service. Definitely recommend.
Always the absolute best food and service. Everyone goes out of their way to give you a cozy snd home cooked experience.
Three different workers touched our table, each once, so I had no idea who was our server. The first worker sat us and didn’t offer any high chair for my 1.5yo (not sure they even have high chairs). They didn’t have cups for kids so they gave her a styrofoam cup, half full with one half melted ice cube, no lid and no straw. The second server told us about the specials and took our order. The third server was nice and brought our 1.5yo juice in a similar cup as the first, no lid but at least it had a straw this time. The appetizers were very small and overly salty. The entrees were not played nicely and tasted mediocre at best. The dessert was good, just chocolate cake and ice cream. My cup of water sat empty for quite sometime before anyone came and filled it and by then, we were almost done with dessert. We were in and out of there in less than an hour because my husband just wanted to leave.
Our table was literally right in front of the musicians, almost touching their equipment and clearly this restaurant isn’t following COVID protocols as the table next to us was so close, my husband and the guy behind him had their backs practically touching the entire time. Also, all of our cloth napkins were stained which just added to the negative experience.
My bill was quite high for not enjoying anything and no one at the restaurant knew how bad of an experience we were having because no one even came to touch on our table to see how dinner was going. I really didn’t want to leave a tip but did anyway, as one usually does when dining out. We should have listened to everyone when they told us not to go there.
We’re torn to hear of such a horrible experience you’ve had at the restaurant, we will take this with a heavy heart as the needs were not met to exceptional quality service. Thank you for this review, hopefully we will prevent this from others. With warm Aloha, Keei Cafe family
Great wine selection -- all the seafood was wonderful. Staff was great and very attentive.
Another great evening with excellent food and service and nice live music
Nice place on the upper floor of a building. Best dinner we had on Kona. Had live (quiet) music. If you BYOB there is a $9 corking charge. Very Good main courses and desserts. Nice relaxed atmosphere. If you pay with a credit card there is a 3.5% service charge. 2 entrees, 1 drink 2 coffees and 1 dessert was $100 without tip.
Love this Gem of a Restaurant! The owners take such pride in the quality of food they delivery. We always leave saying best meal on island.
A great family restaurant. Highly recommended, a favorite for us, we are regulars for a reason.
I have been going to this wonderful family-owned restaurant for many years and the team never disappoints. The food, drinks, desserts, service, and ambience are top notch. It's Hawaii dining with flair, but not resort prices. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Kona town or the resorts up north, head a little ways south to Keei Cafe!
We stayed in Kealakekua bay for 10 days and in those ten days we dined at Keei Cafe three times! Because out first experience was so good we kept coming back and we were not disappointed. The food was very well prepared and attractively plated. The live music was very pleasant while not being too loud as to interfere with our conversation. The service was friendly and professional. We will come back when we have the pleasure of returning to the area on a future visit.
We were looking for a place that was not crowded and away from the busy restaurants. We found Keei Cafe online and checked it out. We are glad we did. Friendly, great food, live music…perfect island feel.
Like other diners said, don’t be in a hurry when coming here. Food was decent, not great. Skip the macadamia nut pie. Store bought crust and all nuts that tasted old.
The view for Sunset is perfect. Out of the way locals spot, we were very surprised how good it was. Food is excellent, price is reasonable. Live music, not disturbing to the conversation. You won’t be disappointed here, but be prepared to make an evening of your visit, the pace is very relaxed.
The service was generally slow.
Food was great, service great.
Our go to restaurant for a relaxing dinner
The view of the sunset was probably the highlight of the evening. Prices are fair, food was just average, I guess I expected better from reviews. No complaints regarding service. Wished they used QR codes instead of menus, we’re still in COVID and I was concerned about the state of the drink menu.
Lovely decor, we sat out on the balcony able to see the incredible sunset. The service was friendly and efficient. Our dinners were so delicious. We had the fresh caprese salad seasoned just right, the rib eye and the catch special- ahi in their curry sauce! We even caught some local talent playing guitar & singing! A great evening out!
Awesome place, the food is excellent and great value, I highly recommend this restaurant for a great dining experience,
This place never fails. They excelled in everything. This is one of the best restaurants in Hawaii. Just go. Everything is good. They only just reopened and as most businesses they are trying to get rolling again. So be patient. I’ve lived here for 17 years and this restaurant is my go to for friends and family. Aloha
