We have been going here every time we've come to the Big Island, about 10 years and LOVE it. The food is wonderful and the owner is delightful. Very nice staff as well and just a perfect place for a special meal out.
Parking is a problem, fortunately we had early reservations. The appearance a little shabby The door to the men's restroom stood open. Service excellent. Food excellent. Hope to come again - - early!
Wonderful friendly service great food loved it 😍
Have dined at Keei several times but this time they were off. First of all, after waiting several minutes to be recognized at the door, they couldn't find our reservation but then we discovered that they had not checked OpenTable. They were too busy for that although they did seat our part of 4 in front of an open door with the wind blowing in. We were chilly during the meal; they used the door for access to an outdoor table so they couldn't close it. Service always seems to be a little off. We waited for over a half hour after the soup for our meal to come and when we asked about it, it came right out. Had it been sitting for awhile? The food was good. We also then had to ask for the check. The wait staff seemed harried and not friendly which, if recall, is the norm there. Maybe they could use another person on the staff.
Lovely restaurant with delicious food and a full bar. The fish with curry sauce is delicious and the margarita was yummy. My husband enjoyed the pork chops and tasty red wine. I highly recommend and will definitely be back!
Wonderful from start to finish..
Noise was a problem, between the live music, rowdy table of 8, and traffic noise on the balcony . I would recommend coming in between mealtimes or when there is not music.
The food is consistently delicious. They offer several preparation treatments for fresh fish, as well as chicken, steak, and pork chops. The menu isn’t large, but provides variety. The desserts are reasonably priced and excellent.
Ke’ei Cafe was fabulous.
Great selection of food and lovely music.
Servers were very good - competent and friendly.
Very welcoming atmosphere and great ambience.
Delicious food, well presented and reasonably priced.
The food is always terrific, the ambiance wonderful, so all in all, a great experience. This time, though, the wait staff seemed a bit distracted, but perhaps they had a reason. Everyone has an off night some time, but that would not ever prevent us from returning. It’s still one of our favorite places to dine.
This is a great family operated restaurant with consistently exceptional food. The fish dishes are always extraordinarily fresh and impressively good. Just a great great place.
Excellent except the noise level is too loud for normal conversation
Another good time at Keei. Great food, live music and friendly service that makes you feel like you are going to a friend’s house for dinner.
Food was delicious!! Service was okay. I would definitely return for the chicken and the lemon caper fish special.
Outstanding service, local and friendly! Really good food. A nice place.
Ke'ei offers a lovely ambiance with outstanding local food and attentive waiters. The great jazzy music by a local musician was very appropriate, not too loud but really adding to the overall experience.
Great menu and food was delicious and well presented.
Perhaps a little hard to find the first time, but once you know where it is you'll want to return. A family run business on the second floor of a building but don't expect a view. You can expect a very good meal, especially their fish dishes, a reasonable selection of wine, live music Tuesday - Saturday and even an occasional "guest" vocalist with entertainment to compliment your dining.
A smaller establishment so reservations are generally appreciated.
In addition to various fish and preparations, the menu includes great appetizers, and other entree's include pork chops, duck breast, NY strip and pasta selections.
A delightful spot for a very dinner.
This place is lively, lovely and has wonderful food. The eggplant appetizer is delicious and so was a special portobello mushroom one. The fish is always fresh and tasty.
One of our best restaurants on the Big Island. The food is fresh with great local items.
We have eaten at Keei once or twice a year for many years; as always, the food was excellent: great fish main courses, solid sides, good appetizers, and a decent drink and wine list. This year, however, the service was very spotty and slow. Our waitress was friendly, but it took a long time to get our food, forever to get my coffee, and my dessert never did arrive. It seemed like most of the diners were having similar experiences. We'll give another try on our next trip to the island in June; hopefully, the kitchen and waitstaff will have it together then.
One of my three best restaurants to go to and take visitors. Best food, nice staff, friendly and lots of aloha.
It was all excellent at reasonable prices for quality of food and service...the Cabernet Sauvignon choice was the smoothest Cab I think I have ever tasted...
I've eaten at Keei cafe 4 times. The food is always outstanding. It was very busy during this holiday season and the staff was bit overwhelmed by the crowd but they did a very nice job under the circumstances.
Terrific meal with great flavors and good portoon size. Nice to arrive before sunset and ask for a table with a view. Staff very friendly. Would definitely go back again.
Went there on a special date, wonky service from the moment we wallked in. No Aloha here.
Very loud, outdated interior. Served a MaiTai in a milk glass, not like any other I have ever had. Seated at a table along the wall designed so people could not talk? Moved closer to each other but it was more a cafeteria feel than romantic evening on a Saturday.
No salt or pepper on the table, food was only passable, pricey even for Hawaii. Big crowd there so I guess they don't need us to return. Service was barely passable never got the impression we were anything but a number. They do now take credit cards which they didn't used to and most people were drinking ALOT.
Always excellent! Whenever we are visiting the Big Island, the Keei Cafe is a must do. Bobby the owner is everything a owner and server should be: open, friendly, professional and warm. The menu is perfect, offering many choices.
Great dinner. Service excellent. Road noise is the only slightly negative comment. We had ahi, ono (with excellent curry) and chicken. Macadamia nut pie with ice cream a winner. We will be back!
This is one of kind meal in Kona hidden spot and the best dinner I ever had during my big island vacation. Any single dishes are so tasty, I tried many restaurants on big island, some failed some ok but this is hands down good. I ordered eggplant roll, soup of the day which is pumpkin and shrimp and half chicken. They way they cook is perfection and right amount of flavor. I’m not impressed chicken dishes else where except this half chicken dinner.
Wonderful meal and service. It was quiet when we were there, middle of the week, but have been there when it was busy and it was still very relaxing and enjoyable. Great for dates, special occasions and whenever!
Another great meal. Nice local style relaxed atmosphere and friendly service. Terrific food and desserts. Good prices on wine. Always enjoy the live music that enhances the experience.
We were quite disappointed based on earlier reviews. The room is quite nice, once you get parked in the tiny tight lot, but the live music was pretty brutal. It consisted of a guy on bass and another on guitar trying to "jazz up", a variety of songs, with poor success. They managed to finish their loopy little equations at the same time twice, but several minutes too late for our ears. The loudish crowd paid them the tribute of trying to drown them out.
We ordered the eggplant rolls as a pupu. They were uninspired ribbons of semi-done eggplant around a rice filling. It was hard to determine what they meant to accomplish. For an entree, we had two different preparations of monchong. There were four options, but it didn't really matter, since although none of the options were "Cajun", the fish had been so heavily loaded with black pepper that anything else that happened to it was immaterial. I had mango cobbler for dessert, and it was good, but unremarkable.
On the chance that we caught them on a bad night, I give them a mercy 3 stars, provided they dump those "musicians".
We always enjoy coming to the Keei Café when we are on the Big Island. Food is very good and the prices are a bit more moderate than some of the other local restaurants. Parking is a bit tight but, that said, we had no problem getting a space. Always enjoy the nights on which there is entertainment.
Keei Cafe is our local favorite here in South Kona. It's where we most often go for a relaxed evening with friends to enjoy delicious food together in a comfortable environment. Often there is a quiet performance by a small group or solo singer/guitarist but it doesn't intrude. Prices for dinner entree with a bottle of wine and one of their delicious desserts might run about $100 including tip.
Food is always consistently good and great value for the price. A great gem for South Kona.
We enjoyed our dinner at Keei Cafe. Their food was excellent and service was very friendly. We would like to go back whenever we have a chance.
We ate at Keep Cafe last week after visiting the big island again. We had been last year and found ourselves in the middle of a family get together for the owners so it was difficult to fairly judge the restaurant. It is a nice place and the food is fine in what is otherwise an area of the big island where it is difficult to find anything other than casual eating. Things happen slowly, it takes a while to get a waiter, it takes a while to get a drink (did they forget our order? - skip the cocktails and order wine as can find better in most bars) and it takes a while for somebody to take your order. If you are not in a rush - you are in Hawai'i after all - this is fine but it could be a little sharper.
The big drawback for us was the noise. Not the other guests, not the two guys playing guitar and singing all evening but the frogs! This is full on Coqui country and they are very very loud - skip the open window seats and sit on the other side of the restaurant away from the band if you want a quiet evening.
Food was all high quality. Never have had chicken so tender. The rib eye was very flavorful as well.
It’s amazing! One of our favorites since we moved to Kona in May!
Food was different then most other restaurants around here and really great.
