In 1995 with a vision to open a small family "Coffee Cafe" Owner Bob Miyashiro and his wife Gina open the original Keei Cafe in a old former Fish Market in Honaunau, Hawaii on the Big Island. Finally after borrowing enough from their father, Brothers Bob and Dennis along with Sister Joyce the new Keei Cafe was Born in Hokukano. Again with the Brazilian touch for food friendly colors and using local woods, Gina helped create the decor that surrounds the "New" Keei Cafe at Hokukano. Opened in early 2005, the new Cafe features local artist painting and carvings on the walls. Koa table help make the Cafe have a warm and welcome feel perfect for families or guests looking for a resort type meal with a upcounty price. Family owned and operated with the additon of Gina's sister and Brother in Law, Chef Zeze and Batista, in the kitchen to use the freshes local ingredients to prepare creavtive and and delicious menu items with nightly specials. Let me start by saying, this is one of our favorites on the island. It’s a ways out from the resort areas and frequented mostly with locals. On this particular night, the kitchen was extremely slow. We eat there once on every visit, 4 times a year. It’s generally a little long for the food to be prepared, but on this night it was way too slow. Perhaps they were short handed.

Keei Cafe was very accessible from our rental condo in Keahou. We'd had a recommendation from a local resident as a 'must go'. My husband had the eggplant rolls and loved them! Beautifully prepared and presented. Unfortunately, the shrimp on my salad was really awful (frozen, overcooked?) However, our desserts were delicious: mac nut pie and chocolate lava cake. The wait staff and owner were very nice! We'll definitely go again.

My husband and I decided to try Keei Cafe due to recommendations and were so happy with our meal! The restaurant itself was lovely but the staff was kind with great recommendations. Our ahi was perfect, as well as the sides accompanying them. We will be back!

We had a fantastic time dining at Keei Cafe. I had only recently heard of the restaurant after 25 years visiting, and now living on, the island so I didn't know what to expect. The food was wonderful. Such a great change of pace from others in the area. The restaurant is warm and welcoming and you can tell there are a lot of regulars. We had the duck and steak among other things and both were delicious and cooked perfectly. Also, BYOB is a huge plus!

My soup was basically just a ban of beans with a ti y dollop of sour cream in it, my child’s meal was forgotten about (took almost an hour to arrive) and the pasta was a bit too Al de te, but flavourful. The Mango Cobbler was divine! Lovely people. Would give it another chance, might have just been an off night as they were quite busy.

Keei Cafe is always a favorite for us. Our dinner Saturday 4/16 did not disappoint. Food cooked perfectly, the best vegetable medley out there as a side, and beautifully presented. They’ve expanded their menu, too, which is a welcome plus. It remains at the top of our list for elegant casual dining.

We stumbled upon this delightful place 11 years ago when we got married. We returned to the island and went on our search to find it again. We did! It is as wonderful as we remembered. It was about an hour drive from our resort and certainly worth the drive. It’s a hidden jewel that is worth seeking out! So nice and friendly and the food is fabulous! Don’t forget to order dessert! The mango cobbler is fabulous, but everything looked great!

Our evening at Keei Cafe was delightful. Three of us ordered the fresh fish, which was Ono, with a couple of different preparations. It was outstanding. The restaurant was very busy when we arrived for our reservation, but we were seated right away. Service from the Wait Staff was a little slow getting started, but you could tell they were just a bit short-handed. Overall it was a very pleasant experience!

We've been eating at the Keei Cafe for over 25 years. We took some friends who had not been there before, and it was a big hit (for them...we already knew ;-) ). Ahi Katsu, Cioppino Fisherman's Stew, Mahi-Mahi in the special mango sauce and lamp chops (best on the Big Island); Warm lava flow (ala mode) and Bread Pudding (ala mode). Only reason I gave four stars and not five for service is they could use one more person. They were attentive and very personable; just busy. Be sure to look at the special wine lost near the bar. Remarkable wines at great prices! The chicken in pepper corn gravy is maybe the best restaurant dish anywhere.

Keei rather Ke'ei Cafe is a great restaurant located in Kealakekua about a 30-minute drive South on Mamalahoa Highway. Well worth the drive but be careful with the parking area behind the restaurant. Very cramped and sloped makes parking challenging for large cars. Enter the restaurant from the parking area and you will find a nice casual restaurant atmosphere. We were promptly greeted and shown to our table. In addition to tables inside the main dining room, there are about five 2-top tables outside on a covered lanai. Fresh fish (catch) of the day is featured and prepared several ways as well as other dishes. We ordered a large bowl of soup (bacon and corn chowder) that we shared, fresh fish (catch) on salad greens and roasted duck breast. The food was delicious and portions were generous. The service staff was courteous and took care of our needs throughout our visit. If you have transportation and are looking for great food served in a casual local setting, we highly recommend Ke'ei Cafe.

I had mahi mahi special. A little salty but overall pretty good. My husband had the pork chops. He said the flavor was very good but many bones. Not sure what kind of cut it was. I had read reviews saying the Mai Tais were great but we thought they were not.
