Keagans Irish Restaurant &Tavern Ratings and Reviews
Portions are big and the food is genuinely Irish pub grub. I went with the corned beef stack but had my potato cake on the side instead of under the pile. The potato was good and crunchy and the rest was rich and gooey with cheese and sauce. My husband had fish and chips; the fish was great but the chips were just skinny french fries. The beers we picked were great. My main problem with our meal was a very energetic atmosphere where we had 4 TVs we could see from our table, all on different channels, plus a crowd of noisy people at the bar. Also, there was only one waitress for the entire place and the poor woman was constantly running so, of course, the service suffered. This was a much different visit than our last time- coming for a quiet brunch!!!
I usually am not one to leave a negative review of a restaurant or anything in general, but the experience that was had here left little to no choice but to do so. The first aspect of this was that the restaurant is obviously listed on open table, but when we got there, there was a sign to seat yourself. This both confused and angered us, since the time was spent to look for it on open table and then make the reservation. The atmosphere was the second very poor aspect of our experience here, which was horrible to say the least. It seems that most people enjoy some background music at a restaurant, and most places do that very tastefully. The music was blaring at an extremely high volume level, which was beyond unpleasant. Normally I am quite easy to please with a given restaurant, but the experience here was quite horrible overall.
I usually go for lunch. It is fairly laid back and has a pleasant atmosphere. I love the Irish pictures. I always get Sarah Lou Matthew as a waitress because she is excellent and I know I will get treated well. Keagan's is much more than just a bar, its a good place to eat. Also has plenty of TV's, large and small, for the sports enthusiasts.
Yikes! This place smelled really strongly of a gas leak, so we opted not to eat here. I'd definitely be willing to give this another shot next time I'm in Richmond (such a sucker for nachos), so hopefully that issue gets fixed up soon. Also, it'd be good to get that checked out just for the staff & diners' safety...
The food/service/ambiance/value ratings are required, but my rating on those counts really shouldn't be taken into account since I didn't actually eat here.
Service was slow. Took forever to even get out drinks. The food was all over-salted. There was barely anyone in the restaurant - that should have tipped us off. When I told the waitress that the food tasted like someone dumped an entire bottle of salt in it - she barely reacted. Completely unprofessional.
I hate to give this place a bad review and even though I understand it was a holiday I wouldn't recommend dinning here on St Patrick day. I didn't mind waiting almost 40 minutes past our reservation time since they were slammed but thank goodness we asked about our table when we did since the hostess didn't bother to tell us the table had been ready. Then once we were seated another 20 minutes went buy with not a single person coming buy to even take our drink order much less our meal order that's when we finally gave up and left an hour and ten minutes past our reservations with not so much as a glass of water. On a day that you would think they would have all hands on deck They were obviously way under staffed for a Irish pub on St Patrick's day.
Thought the food was below average. Fried calamari was just over fried and u could not tell what it even was.
The perks chops were very dry. I had the beef O'Brien which was very bland.
Not impressed. It was Saturday night and very small crowd. I can only imagine that the locals already know that good is not very good.
I travel and eat out over 150 nights a year and I can honestly say that I will never go here again. Should have listened to YELP reviews.
I would take it out of OPEN TABLE reservation system.
