Kauai Grill - St. Regis - Hawaii Ratings and Reviews
We enjoyed our meal, but expected a little higher end food for the price and the hype of them pushing a Michelin star chef. Service was mediocre throughout the night. We had a nice evening, but feel like this is miss represented- definitely more of a high end steakhouse menu and feel than anything.
This was a repeat meal at Kauai Grill, a place we have enjoyed several times over the years when visiting Kauai. As usual, it did not disappoint. From the starters to the main dish, straight through to dessert, we were thrilled by every item. The flavours were exquisite, the service (we were lucky enough to have Frank, who is excellent), was thoughtful, and the ambience was perfect. We highly recommend this restaurant for anyone visiting the Garden Island!
Attention to detail was poor. We were served sliced wonder bread to start our meal. The manager tried to make up for this by sending us some desserts which was appreciated. However, service took so long and our waiter was essentially absent the entire time we were there. Also, The filet mignon was served without being sauced and the waiter hadn’t even noticed.
We went to Kaui Grill for our Christmas dinner with our kids (teens). It was a wonderful atmosphere and the food was delicious. The portions were substantial and the presentation was elegant. My husband and I had the tasting menu and each course was better than the last. Our daughter had the black pepper octopus which was overall our favorite! We loved our server and her candid advice and information. It was a great experience!
The staff at the St. Regis are wonderful as well.
Booked through Opentable, Dinner at 12/24 around 6:00PM, Christmas Eve, 8 people, we ordered 7 set menu(5 courses) $145/PP, plus one main course from the regular menu.
Pros : Service was good. staffs were all very friendly.
Cons : The food from set menu was totally unacceptable, scallop and ravioli were pre-cooked then put sauce on top, came out warm to cold. Ravioli was especially bad, It was hard, tasted like leftover. We made complain to our waiter, then the beef course was ok. Desert was also a mediocre. The one course from regular menu was an average.
The restaurant was VERY noisy and loud. More like a sports bar instead of a high end dine place. Definitely not worth the money.
BTW, don't be fooled by the restaurant picture, only the few tables by the window have ocean view.
During our week long stay, We had dinnesr at several other restaurants -- Merrimans Fish House, Tidepool, Hukiau Lanai, RumFire,Eating house 1849 and Keoki's Paradise. All those were excellent at probably half the price, better food and better ambiance.
We ordered the Christmas special five course dinner. The shrimp appetizer was superb in taste; so was the faux gras. The Kona lobster was delicious together with the Weigu beef filet. The desert was out of this world.
Service was attentive to minute detail. We wold return in a heartbeat!
I had indicated on our reservation (through Open Table) that we were celebrating 2 special occasions with our extended family who had gathered in Kauai from 3 different U.S. mainland cities. The manager personally greeted us upon arrival and seated us at an AWESOME private outdoor table with a magnificent view. The manager, the sommelier, and our server were all fantastic... and the food exceeded expectations. An expensive evening but worth every penny. Highly recommend Kauai Grill at the St Regis!
We love Jean-George restaurants so wanted to try this for an anniversary celebration. We were too late to enjoy the view which forced us to see the tired and dated decor. The food was excellent, the service was very good (although a little “hang loose”). It was an overall nice dinner but way overpriced for the serving size. We’ve eaten at great restaurants around the world and are not afraid to spend big money. But the value wasn’t there! Maybe it’s worth it with view. So maybe prices should be reduced after sunset? We live on O‘ahu and visit Kauai often. We won’t be back to this restaurant due to the prices.
We got a table in the middle of the room, I feel like they didn't give us a "good" table by the window since we are younger and they figured we didn't have money to actually pay for a nice meal here. There were places open by the window but we were kind of stuck in an area by ourselves which was odd to me. We went there with some of the party wanting the prix fixe menu but were told the whole table had to basically get it and agree on the same things so we weren't able to get it. The food came fairly quickly and was quite good, although for the price, you're definitely paying a lot for it being at the St. Regis. Spent just under $500 on champagne, meals and dessert for 3. I would probably go again one more time if I was going with people to get the prix fixe and just to see if they shoved me in a corner again.
On Kauai, this was our favorite restaurant...hands down. My husband and I celebrated our anniversary and the food and service were spectacular! We both had seafood entrees and appetizers which were creatively prepared and delicious. The ambiance of the restaurant was great and we were given a dessert commemorating our anniversary which was a nice surprise. I would recommend this as a "must do" dining experience.
Lily, Sequoia and Mark delivered outstanding service and the nicest and most delicious dinner of our week on the island. The table had that amazing view that we enjoyed all week and we look forward to our next stay at the St. Regis Princeville and dinner at the Kauai Grill. Thank you for our delicious Anniversary dinner!
Kauai Grill is located on one of the most beautiful pieces of property on the Island. But, this restaurant has zero windows. So, forget the view. All the food was excellent. Frank, our server, along with the server assistances were friendly, helpful and timely. Thank you all.
Food was excellent, service was good (although the pace could have been a little less rushed), we were glad there was just the two of us as the noise level was high and I don't think I could have heard someone on the opposite side of the table.
Expensive, be prepared to drop some $.
This was the last night for our 2 week honeymoon. I thought what a beautiful location to celebrate our marriage and our love. When we got to the restaurant, the manager of the restaurant brought us both outside and took pictures of the 2 of us and the background Bali High and the beautiful Hanalei Bay. That is how our dinner started and it just got better from there. After we sat at the table that brought us a complimentary glass of champagne, great touch. The food was off the chart great and the wait staff did not rush us at all. Great last night and great memories. Thank you Kauai grill.
The food was great and the view was beautiful... Though not sure if it is normal for the island but there were fruitflies in the dining room and the glass to view the sunset was dirty ... Both of these distracted from the experience but overall it was very good.
We have gone to the Kauai Grill 5 times in the past 6 years - first on our wedding night and then when we returned for our anniversaries. We always order the vegetarian tasting menu and the regular tasting menu. It seems like the tasting menus have increased in price and serving size. Four dishes plus dessert with about 3 ounces of wine per course is just too much. My dishes were Ahi Tartare (ahi and avocado swimming in soy sauce), 2 overcooked prawns wrapped in bacon, about 3 ounces of fish, about 3 ounces of steak and a full sized dessert of refreshing sorbet with meringue-y bits. The vegetarian tasting menu was: asparagus panna cotta (lovely gourmet starter, but a little too sweet), a large toasted bread-like cake topped with avocado, mushroom risotto (the best dish but not very unique), heavy sweet potato gnocchi with bolognese and ice cream with rich caramel sauce.
The same wines were served with both tasting menus, which was nice. If we would have known that, we may have shared a wine tasting pairing. We found a chardonnay that we liked; retail price is about $45. I expected to be more given the wine pairing was $105 each for 5 wines. They finished the meal with a complimentary glass of champagne for our anniversary. Thank goodness we were staying at the hotel.
It would be much better to offer fewer courses, smaller portions and a little less wine at a lower price. We also liked the approach used years ago better - the regular menu and vegetarian menus were the same preparations with seafood/meat in the regular menu and vegetables in the veg'y menu.
The ambiance was lovely with a fabulous view of Hanalei Bay and light music (much better than the loud techno pop played years ago). Service was attentive and top notch. It was nice that they presented my husband with a vegetarian menu without the need to ask for it (it was noted in the reservation).
The food was superb, scintillating to all the senses. I had the tasting menu, beautifully orchestrated & tasted. The service was on point, our server was Francis, & the views were to die for. What else can you ask for? When you visit Kauai, you will definitely pay more for everything, but this was well worth it. A great find at the St. Regis, a place to never disappoint.
I'm not sure if it is just that we have been to the grill so many times that we are jaded but it seems as though the creativity has taken a step back. We have the tasting menu most times and while the food was very good it just lacks the excitement I expect with the chefs menu.
We had the tasting menu. The third course was overcooked Fish (dry fish is terrible - especially with a mediocre sauce. The fourth and main course was a pedestrian dish consisting of a small fillet, mashed potatoes and broccoli, with mushrooms. The first try was sent back because the meat was overcooked . The second try was just boring. Dessert was a white chocolate (sugar) concoction that was too sweet to finish. All for $125 plus wine pairing - $100.
We had a great meal here last year - with a different chef de cuisine and manager. Its gone way wown hill.
Servers were good and attentive, but the rest of the staff were indifferent.
My Husband and I went to Kauai Grill on the Last evening of our Honeymoon and had the most amazing dining experience. The hostess's were were very friendly and called us by name when we sat down and were leaving the restaurant; our waiter took us outside to a private spot for a few minutes before dinner to watch the sunset and relish in our last evening in paradise which was beyond amazing; our meals were superb and I am still talking about how good everything was 2 weeks after! We both highly recommend that anyone going and staying on Kauai go here to celebrate love and life!
