Kauai Grill - St. Regis - Hawaii Ratings and Reviews
This was the last night for our 2 week honeymoon. I thought what a beautiful location to celebrate our marriage and our love. When we got to the restaurant, the manager of the restaurant brought us both outside and took pictures of the 2 of us and the background Bali High and the beautiful Hanalei Bay. That is how our dinner started and it just got better from there. After we sat at the table that brought us a complimentary glass of champagne, great touch. The food was off the chart great and the wait staff did not rush us at all. Great last night and great memories. Thank you Kauai grill.
The food was great and the view was beautiful... Though not sure if it is normal for the island but there were fruitflies in the dining room and the glass to view the sunset was dirty ... Both of these distracted from the experience but overall it was very good.
We have gone to the Kauai Grill 5 times in the past 6 years - first on our wedding night and then when we returned for our anniversaries. We always order the vegetarian tasting menu and the regular tasting menu. It seems like the tasting menus have increased in price and serving size. Four dishes plus dessert with about 3 ounces of wine per course is just too much. My dishes were Ahi Tartare (ahi and avocado swimming in soy sauce), 2 overcooked prawns wrapped in bacon, about 3 ounces of fish, about 3 ounces of steak and a full sized dessert of refreshing sorbet with meringue-y bits. The vegetarian tasting menu was: asparagus panna cotta (lovely gourmet starter, but a little too sweet), a large toasted bread-like cake topped with avocado, mushroom risotto (the best dish but not very unique), heavy sweet potato gnocchi with bolognese and ice cream with rich caramel sauce.
The same wines were served with both tasting menus, which was nice. If we would have known that, we may have shared a wine tasting pairing. We found a chardonnay that we liked; retail price is about $45. I expected to be more given the wine pairing was $105 each for 5 wines. They finished the meal with a complimentary glass of champagne for our anniversary. Thank goodness we were staying at the hotel.
It would be much better to offer fewer courses, smaller portions and a little less wine at a lower price. We also liked the approach used years ago better - the regular menu and vegetarian menus were the same preparations with seafood/meat in the regular menu and vegetables in the veg'y menu.
The ambiance was lovely with a fabulous view of Hanalei Bay and light music (much better than the loud techno pop played years ago). Service was attentive and top notch. It was nice that they presented my husband with a vegetarian menu without the need to ask for it (it was noted in the reservation).
The food was superb, scintillating to all the senses. I had the tasting menu, beautifully orchestrated & tasted. The service was on point, our server was Francis, & the views were to die for. What else can you ask for? When you visit Kauai, you will definitely pay more for everything, but this was well worth it. A great find at the St. Regis, a place to never disappoint.
I'm not sure if it is just that we have been to the grill so many times that we are jaded but it seems as though the creativity has taken a step back. We have the tasting menu most times and while the food was very good it just lacks the excitement I expect with the chefs menu.
We had the tasting menu. The third course was overcooked Fish (dry fish is terrible - especially with a mediocre sauce. The fourth and main course was a pedestrian dish consisting of a small fillet, mashed potatoes and broccoli, with mushrooms. The first try was sent back because the meat was overcooked . The second try was just boring. Dessert was a white chocolate (sugar) concoction that was too sweet to finish. All for $125 plus wine pairing - $100.
We had a great meal here last year - with a different chef de cuisine and manager. Its gone way wown hill.
Servers were good and attentive, but the rest of the staff were indifferent.
My Husband and I went to Kauai Grill on the Last evening of our Honeymoon and had the most amazing dining experience. The hostess's were were very friendly and called us by name when we sat down and were leaving the restaurant; our waiter took us outside to a private spot for a few minutes before dinner to watch the sunset and relish in our last evening in paradise which was beyond amazing; our meals were superb and I am still talking about how good everything was 2 weeks after! We both highly recommend that anyone going and staying on Kauai go here to celebrate love and life!
Food was excellent so the chef deserves hi praises. My medium rare steak was perfect. The service , while very friendly , was poor. They are poorly trained. They sat the 2 of us at a table for 6 first . I said no. Then they moved me to a 2 person table with a spot light above. Way too bright. Got my steak before steak knife delivered. Just poorly trained staff. But excellent food and nice people.
I will recommend this restaurant to others, but mainly only because it is one of very few nice restaurants on Kauai. We had heard good things and were excited to experience it, however, we had poor service and the food was nothing special. We had high hopes and were relatively disappointed. Our waiter was inattentive and did not care about providing us with good service.
My husband and I ate at Kauai Grill for the first time 8 years ago. We have maintained that the meal we had that evening was the best meal we have ever eaten. Last night we took 4 of our kids for my birthday and it was just as outstanding as we remembered it to be! They took impeccable care of us and every bite was a work of art. 100% worth the splurge! Thank you for such a memorable evening! This is still my favorite restaurant on the planet!
Me and my wife were here for our honeymoon. The view was phenomenal but they made the whole experience very special. We were taken outside by the staff to take pictures of us, for us. They gave us free Champaign and even the dessert had a congratulations message. It’s pricey but worth it and the food is very good. And I must say their music was great if you’re into indie, electo love pop. Great spot.
Very fine dining experience with exceptional service. Davids suggestions for the wine pairing with the "Tasting menu" were spot on! Service was attentive yet not intrusive. All of the staff were to be commended but David who is manager and a somellier, went above and beyond to create a special evening!
Tuna sashimi app was miniscule, lobster main was very soft and poor texture, asparagus was not al dente' but nearly raw.
Bread and service were great, wine list very good but overpriced even for Hawaii.
Waiter said he would take asparagus off the bill as we did not eat them but then he failed to do so. Beautiful dining room, great sunset.
This is the high end dining spot on the North Shore but for these prices ($400 for two with wine and tip) the food should be executed perfectly and the portions at least decent sized.
Our service was a disaster although the manager (Dave) stepped it up considerably! The wait for our main course was over an hour, in fact we watched another couple get our food and they had come in 30 minutes after us! The food was tepid when it arrived. Desert was delicious. But overall the evening was a disaster for us. We won't go back.
This place is trying to be upscale but the only thing that is upscale here is prices. The food was good, no complains here. However, service and ambiance were lacking. Our appetizers arrived 2 minutes after we ordered them - not sure if they were actually made to order or were pre-made already. Entrees were delivered right the way too - so, no dining experience, just in and out service like we are in a diner. No one took our dessert order, no one asked us if we wanted a glass of wine with our dinner or another drink. It took us 10 minutes to get all of our food items and 30 minutes to pay our check because the waiter did not have care much. I expected more from a restaurant that charges $80 per main course and $25 for a small appetizer. We left wanting more... more service, more experience, more food. It was good, just not good enough. Also, do not kid yourself about the view - almost anywhere in Kauai you will get a better view of sunset. I would not waste time and money on this place as you will not get a much better meal, better view, and definitely not better service.
The staff was extremely kind & accommodating, but unfortunately the food was a complete flop. Completely overrated & overpriced. The menu & the space definitely need some updating. If it weren't for the very kind servers, I would give this zero stars. If you're staying at the hotel, skip dinner here and try some of the local spots in Hanalai.
So, the Kauai Grill is expensive. They were the most expensive restaurant at which we dined. But they know it, and they work hard for it. The food was excellent! The service was wonderful. The view was amazing. This was the perfect place to celebrate our 30th anniversary. If you want an excellent dining experience, and you're willing to pay to be pampered, your money will be well spent at Kauai grill!
It was expensive! I rate by the food and review by the pricing and everything else. food was delicious, service was great, but very disappointed i paid $55 just for a Seabass... literally just a seabass, no side, no salad no nothing. The serving was the size of my palm. If the food wasn't so good I would honestly give it 2 stars
We had a great dinner here at a Kauai Grill. My boyfriend brought me here to have dinner for my birthday and we were seated by the window to watch the sunset as we had dinner, the view was amazing. The food was delicious and they treated us to a yummy dessert and some bubbly to wish me a happy birthday. Customer service was excellent. We had a great time and dinner and definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to celebrate a special occasion.
