Food comes out “when it’s ready”. Our hot appetizer came out luke warm and our sashimi didn’t make it out at all. Sushi was good but not great. My martini however that was in a 3/4 filled small glass was $19. That’s insane.

Fish was fresh, sauces seemed old/had been sitting/coagulated
“Wagyu” had old meat foul taste and was tough
Shrimp had cheap import taste and texture- expected taste from cheap Chinese takeout, not Katsuya

Love the hotel where Katsuya is located. The restaurant itself looks great and was well decorated. The waitress seemed to be very nice. But both her and every server we encountered whispered. Not sure why that’s a thing.
Meet ordered drinks and then the tasting menu. Getting another drink was a pain all night. The struggle is real. Waived a buzzer down and got drinks ordered one by one because they kept running off.

The first courses were very good. There was a grilled platter that had some amazing beef and sea bass. The sushi course was not very good. Would tell you what was in it but I could not hear the whisper. Then the waitress said desert was next unless we wanted more of what we just had. Dessert was nice.

So $450 for three people is not bad for Miami Beach. But o could have an amazing omakase at Nobu for that. No clue why this place is rated so high. Maybe an off night?

$11 for a SINGLE piece of yellowtail - seriously? If it were blue-fin we could understand or maybe two pieces of yellowtail. With mandatory egregious tip and tax - $30 for appetizers is similarly over-priced and excessive. The steak with mushrooms was as though someone decimated a steak into 8 tiny pieces that were dried out and over-done, or used left-over pieces. The mushrooms were drenched in oil. The miso-cod was tiny and came with NOTHING. Our glass of over-priced rose had lipstick on it and eventually we were able to persuade staff to please get us a new one. Then they brought the check with higher prices for 2 drinks than on the menu and acknowledged they were aware of this and others had similar issues and ‘brought it to the manager to correct it.’

This was our second time at Katsuya. The service is great, the food is amazing, and the environment is visually very appealing. It is a noisy atmosphere and conversation requires a bit of a yell for all to be heard, so probably not great for a business dinner where work is to be done. But that isn’t what this place is for! A very enjoyable experience every time.

We came with our 4 month old baby for an early dinner and our waitress was incredible. She was attentive and held some of our dishes with the kitchen as we had to tend to our baby and couldn't eat right away. The sushi rolls were fantastic especislly the dynamite one which wasn't on the menu which the waitress recommended. Cocktails were good too.

The food was wonderful; however, the service was highly disappointing. Especially for the amount of money you pay to dine at such a lovely restaurant. I would’ve expected our waitress to at least come around to our table once or twice to ask if we needed another drink, how our food was tasting, did we need anything else, etc. Unfortunately, this restaurant adds an 18% gratuity to the check automatically - I sincerely wish I could have given this money to the host/hostess as they paid more attention to us than our server. In addition, we
Politely explained our situation to the GM and after saying he would make sure to make it up to us, he didn’t follow through with buying us a round. For the amount of money you pay and the experience you expect, I wouldn’t go back. If you can’t handle being in the customer service industry, you shouldn’t be working at a highly recommended restaurant. It ruined our experience and I truly believe if we had a properly trained server, we would have had a different experience.

Every time we're at South Beach we feel the need to go to Katsuya at least one time.
This one we ordered the risotto and it was marvelous, a full flavour experience on a plate.
The only thing that we can question abou Katsuya is that the tables are too closer and you can almost be part of the next table conversation, but this is a tiny thing.

Our server slammed us with everything we started with all at once. Like....6 plates hit our table at the same time.
I asked him to slow it *way* down.
He took away the warm items and left us with the cold/room temp ones then completely forgot about us.
Had to refire the warm items.
Then forgot to come by to finish taking the rest of our order.
Had to ask for someone to bring him by.
I've eaten here and in LA so many times and it's one of my absolute faves. The food quality and service here was so bad that I won't be back to the Miami Katsuya again.
The crispy rice wasn't right.
The baked crab hand rolls were too creamy.
Even the Miso Cod wasn't as good.
It was a Friday night so I assume they didn't have the B-team working in the kitchen.
Our server forgot about us again after our mains were brought out. We sat for over a half hour and decided to forego dessert and just get the check.
Definitely not the standard I'm used to there. And definitely won't be back.

We have dined at Katsuya since it opened & always enjoyed it . I don’t know what happened last nite but it was awful ! The rice on the crispy rice/spicy tuna was cold & beyond chewy , the robata scallops was 1 scallop very very thinly sliced (the server told us there were 4 scallops); etc etc! We will NOT. be returning anytime soon

The food was good. Ambiance was pretty nice too. I was just upset and the service. It took a while for my wife and me to be attended to. And then this is a Japanese Restaurant, and they were out of the Japanese beer!!! WTF!!! These two factors put me in a bad mood for the diner. I wanted to leave, but wifey wanted to stay. The girl who waited on us was very nice. But the sushi was very good, very fresh. The butterfly shrimp was very good too. The waygu ribeye looked off the meat rack. This will be the reason I go back, to order it. Spot is okay. I would recommend you try it out to see if you like it. There is a little club/Bar in the hotel towards the back. I liked that. Drinks are expensive. So if you are going to get bent, be ready to spend some cheese. 7 or 8 oz. Peroni set me back $12.90. No telling how much a glass of scotch is. But the spot is tight; there were many bangin shorties there who were with their girls. Definite chances to bag something up.

Having been a fan of this place for years this was a rather disappointing visit. None of the dishes tasted as fresh as previous visits and most seemed to have been pre-prepared and reheated for our eating pleasure. We ended up having the miso cod taken off the menu as it was so overcooked. Cocktails and edamame as well as service was great.
