It's obvious Katsuya is no longer the nice, special occasion destination it was ten years ago in Hollywood, they seem to be everywhere now. With that being said, we dine out very often, and for the price points, bad service, and terrible ambiance, I will NEVER visit another Katsuya again. I don't like to write negative reviews, however our experience was that bad.
The waiter kept addressing my girlfriend and I as "Guys". That is completely unacceptable and disrespectful to address my girlfriend that way. It annoyed me a lot because it was so consistent and at the end of every sentence. I felt so insulted, we went to Yardhouse for dessert.
Me and my girlfriend had a great time. We went for Valentine’s Day. It was her first time here and she loved everything. The food was amazing as always. She wants to go back ASAP.
Food is good as all the other ones I have been to but the service was so bad that it ruined the entire experience. What should have take an hour took 2 hours and they charged a 20% gratuity automatically for 6 people to have REALLY BAD SERVCIE.
Great service. Great tasting sushi
Waaaaaaaay too loud. Food was awesome but we had to sit outside to be able to talk at all.
The food and service was fine, but I specifically requested a birthday song and dessert for my friend who was celebrating his 50th birthday. Nothing was done. That was disappointing, as I have seen other received a song and dessert. I will probably return for the food, but not for a special event.
Try the bluefin tuna sashimi and the halibut sashimi too. Cook tender kobe beef on a hot rock. The black cod loin melts in your mouth!
It was just okay. Food came before our drinks. And we were sat right next to the end of the sushi bar...with a big guy sitting right there...almost on top of my friends seat. Seems like it should have been an obvious bad seat for anyone.
Horrible service and portions are extremely small for what you pay
we had a reservation and were seated on time. Great start to the night. Our server was not friendly or accommodating at all. It was one thing after another. Even after asking to speak to the manager, she wasn’t even accommodating. The food was delicious but I definitely would not come back To this location.
The service was not good at all, and I complimented one of the hostesses’ outfit, and she just ignored me completely.
Katsuya has provided delicious food that has maintained its consistency over the years. Flavors are excellent, even for the non-meat dishes but the portions are on the small side considering the price. Definitely worth it every once in a while. Katsuya LA Live expanded their outdoor seating so plenty of comfortable seats under the shade, but service suffered a little. Overall still a great meal before the game.
I ordered Udon (which is soup) and somehow my order came out last, after everyone was done eating. Told “oh sorry, udon takes a long time to make.” Interesting. The girl running the food wasn’t very friendly, and abruptly put the food on the table without saying what or whose it was. Everything was lagged. I’ll leave my Katsuya visits limited to the Brentwood location.
We went to Katsuya - LA Live before attending a concert at the Microsoft Theater. We weren't expecting a quiet dinner, but the restaurant was very loud and crowded and the tables were small and close together. Our waiter gave us a friendly greeting, but the place was so packed that it was hard to get good service. The food we ordered came at an odd pace - the side of rice came first, then a long time after that we got the starter and one entree and after then we had quite a wait for the other entree. I got a little sick of having my chair bumped into as people hurried past. The food itself was good. We both enjoyed the fresh fish. However, it was tiring to have shout to be heard by my companion and to constantly try to get our waiter's attention to find out when the rest of our order was coming. Overall, there are other choices nearby and I will try them out next time I'm in the area.
Great night. The service was excellent and the food came out extremely fast. It was impressive.
Katsuya was part of the Dine LA, so we decided to give it a try. From the appetizer to dessert the food was delicious. The portions were fulfilling and for a great price. I was skeptical when I ordered the Sashimi after seeing reviews on yelp of not being cut properly, but I can say that they have perfected their cuts. Our waitress was attentive and made sure all the plates came out on time. I would recommend for friends who come out to L.A. Live for either a stroll or to catch a bite before a concert.
The food and service was good, the noise level us high so you need to talk loud and the women bathroom is really dark, other than that is good!
Had dinner at Katsuya during DineLA. The wagyu tobanyaki and miso black cod were outstanding. Staff very pleasant and attentive, dishes came out and cleared in a timely manner, water glasses refilled, etc. Noise level was high but that seems to be common in many restaurants now. We asked about the happy/social hour. Our server said that they did not have one but L.A. Live's webpage lists Katsuya as having a happy hour and has a link to the menu. Spoke with the manager later who stated that the social/happy is at the bar and not available when there are special events at the Staples Center. The staff should know about their restaurant's happy hour.
