The food was wonderful but the service was terrible. Went with a group of 5 on a Monday night when the restaurant was only half full. One small roll came out for one in our party and then we didn't get any one else's orders for almost 40 mins. When we were finally able to flag down our waiter to ask, he was barely able to offer an explanation and unapologetic. The sushi was excellent but I wouldn't recommend based on service.
The restaurant was not busy, and it still took me, no exaggeration, 75 minutes to get the lunch I ordered, which was a simple sushi sample plate. The person I was eating with got his food 35 minutes before I did was completely done and cleared before I got my food. The waiter came by 1 time during this to say he was pushing for the food, but they were very backed up. The restaurant was around 40% full at the time. Very poor experience.
Great food. Make a reservation to save on waiting time.
Food was off the chain. Our waitress was very nice and recommended food from the menu.
Food was good and arrived very quick.
We had a great night and our waiter was awesome. Attentive and friendly.
The prices were very high for the value of the food. I particularly did not like that there was not a price given to us as associated with the specials of the day. When the bill came, we were stunned.
I love coming to Katsuya, always a great experience
If you like sushi, this is the place to go.
Food is outstanding. Fun location. Definitely can rack up a bill easily, especially how delicious the food is, but I'd like to think it was worth it!
Great place !!!
Awesome food and the service is first class!
Just bad overall- got sat in a corner even though the place was empty when we had a reservation and the service took forever. It took over 20 mins or more to get tempura and upon delivery it wasn’t even cooked all the way. There were several occasions where we just got wanted to get up and leave. Very unfortunate considering we love going here after hockey games!
Excellent service and very high quality sushi.
Great service. Got worked in after accidentally showing up to the wrong location. Service was excellent and we saw Jon hamm and Larry David!
Some tables too close
AMAZING AS ALWAYS! We went for my friends bday and had the most amazing dinner! Top notch and great service!
Katsuya's food is solid. they are used to big groups and large rush crowds so the place is well managed and I always seem to get very good service.
Waited a long time to be seated even thought we had reservations and hostesses were not friendly, accommodating nor did they seem like they even cared.
Worst experience at this Katuya ever. Arrived for our 6pm reservation at 5:55. Was told they over booked the evening. We decided to wait and was say down at 6:40. Waiter came over 10 minutes later and was clearly overwhelmed. Spent 10 seconds asking if we wanted edamame and walked away. Didn't come back forever. I had to ask the hostess for a waiter. He came and took a drink order. ( got my drink completely wrong) Didn't know the specials and said just tell me what you want. Scribbled it on a scracth piece of paper and got most of our order wrong. I will go back since I've been 20 times before and never had an issue but this was the worst experience I've had at a restaurant ever.
Usually easy in & out to make the game, but getting seated on 2/23/18 was a chore. Made a reservation, but LA traffic delayed us so we updated our time, then called in to let know we were late. Didn't seem to matter. Our "checked-in" 30 minute wait went to 45 mins as it seemed the hostess was seating the complainers sooner. All was made well by our Server, Henry Y. He turned around an unhappy situation with a calming manner, fast service & excellent, honest demeanor. Saved the night! So much so that we didn't mind missing half the game while enjoying fantastic Don Julio Anejo Margaritas. Thanks Henry!!
Food is always delicious! A little on the pricey side but generally worth it. The Downtown LA Katsuya great for pre/post Staples Center event. Fun energy and ridiculously convenient.
My son and I ordered the Kobe Ribeye, I was shocked that the meat was tough and tasted more like Choice beef than Kobe, I’ve had Prime and Wagyu that was amazing. Our waitress seemed overwhelmed, only back to the table once towards the end of the meal, never got a refill on the water either. I would recommend Katsura for sushi only.
Went at 6pm for happy hour before a 7pm movie. No happy hour because there was a sports game happening. Not fine dining, more like going to a cheesy sports bar, everyone in jerseys and loud.
It's obvious Katsuya is no longer the nice, special occasion destination it was ten years ago in Hollywood, they seem to be everywhere now. With that being said, we dine out very often, and for the price points, bad service, and terrible ambiance, I will NEVER visit another Katsuya again. I don't like to write negative reviews, however our experience was that bad.
The waiter kept addressing my girlfriend and I as "Guys". That is completely unacceptable and disrespectful to address my girlfriend that way. It annoyed me a lot because it was so consistent and at the end of every sentence. I felt so insulted, we went to Yardhouse for dessert.
Me and my girlfriend had a great time. We went for Valentine’s Day. It was her first time here and she loved everything. The food was amazing as always. She wants to go back ASAP.
Food is good as all the other ones I have been to but the service was so bad that it ruined the entire experience. What should have take an hour took 2 hours and they charged a 20% gratuity automatically for 6 people to have REALLY BAD SERVCIE.
Great service. Great tasting sushi
Waaaaaaaay too loud. Food was awesome but we had to sit outside to be able to talk at all.
The food and service was fine, but I specifically requested a birthday song and dessert for my friend who was celebrating his 50th birthday. Nothing was done. That was disappointing, as I have seen other received a song and dessert. I will probably return for the food, but not for a special event.
Try the bluefin tuna sashimi and the halibut sashimi too. Cook tender kobe beef on a hot rock. The black cod loin melts in your mouth!
It was just okay. Food came before our drinks. And we were sat right next to the end of the sushi bar...with a big guy sitting right there...almost on top of my friends seat. Seems like it should have been an obvious bad seat for anyone.
Horrible service and portions are extremely small for what you pay
we had a reservation and were seated on time. Great start to the night. Our server was not friendly or accommodating at all. It was one thing after another. Even after asking to speak to the manager, she wasn’t even accommodating. The food was delicious but I definitely would not come back To this location.
The service was not good at all, and I complimented one of the hostesses’ outfit, and she just ignored me completely.
Katsuya has provided delicious food that has maintained its consistency over the years. Flavors are excellent, even for the non-meat dishes but the portions are on the small side considering the price. Definitely worth it every once in a while. Katsuya LA Live expanded their outdoor seating so plenty of comfortable seats under the shade, but service suffered a little. Overall still a great meal before the game.
I ordered Udon (which is soup) and somehow my order came out last, after everyone was done eating. Told “oh sorry, udon takes a long time to make.” Interesting. The girl running the food wasn’t very friendly, and abruptly put the food on the table without saying what or whose it was. Everything was lagged. I’ll leave my Katsuya visits limited to the Brentwood location.
We went to Katsuya - LA Live before attending a concert at the Microsoft Theater. We weren't expecting a quiet dinner, but the restaurant was very loud and crowded and the tables were small and close together. Our waiter gave us a friendly greeting, but the place was so packed that it was hard to get good service. The food we ordered came at an odd pace - the side of rice came first, then a long time after that we got the starter and one entree and after then we had quite a wait for the other entree. I got a little sick of having my chair bumped into as people hurried past. The food itself was good. We both enjoyed the fresh fish. However, it was tiring to have shout to be heard by my companion and to constantly try to get our waiter's attention to find out when the rest of our order was coming. Overall, there are other choices nearby and I will try them out next time I'm in the area.
Great night. The service was excellent and the food came out extremely fast. It was impressive.
