Poor quality food and very, very inattentive service. Disappointing, as we had higher hopes. Because of this, cancelled our Katsuya res at Baha Mar.
We ate at Katsuya on 01/11 at around 6:30pm. Horrible restaurant to dine at. There are so many restaurants available at La Live and this one surely needs to be avoided. Our server was non existent and we probably saw him a total of 2 times the entire dinner service. There was no one cleaning up anyone’s empty food plates at our table or even around us and the food wasn’t even tasty. If I could give this place a “0” star review I would have. This isn’t the first time this place has done this to us. Whoever is the manager of this restaurant needs to be fired along with their entire staff. Our bill was $78 and I made sure to leave $0.00 for the tip. I would’ve asked for a manager to complain but we just wanted to get out of there ASAP. If you guys don’t believe me or take my word please try this place for yourself. You won’t be disappointed.
good food, average service. Id go again though because the food was Good!
Pre-Kings game!! Go Kings Go!!
Food was great and service was too. We went right before a show and the service was prompt. would def recommend.
Another great sashimi experience. If your looking for the toro oro they got it
Soooo close to getting it right.
Waiter surly, got our order wrong, did not want to correct order. We ended up keeping wrong item and ordering additional correct dish because he was so inpleasant about his mistake. Unacceptable for this type of restaurant. Also they allowed young kids to walk thru restaurant selling candy for a team trip. We were approached 5 times during dinner. We supported and bought candy from a kid selling outside so we placed them on table so we would not be approached again. Soliciting dining patrons while eating is just wrong. Si management needs work!
Always accommodating and courteous. The food is amazing. I go there often. Can’t go wrong.
We sat at a table for 12 minutes waiting for a server. We asked the host twice for help getting someone, and the second time we asked she hardly acknowledged us, walked by our table, waved her hand at us and said with an attitude: "I already told them". Then we asked for a manager and waited for them but got sick of spending all our time at this place waiting for someone and left.
The three hostesses were self absorbed and conceded. They didn’t greet us on arrival or exit and acted as it was our privilege to dine with them. They seemed to be happier dancing to the Dj’s music and taking pictures of each other The service was slow. They had three bartenders standing around talking and it still took 30 minutes to get our drink. The sushi service was fast but the hot food service was inconsistent. My son got his main dish after we had all eaten the steak was burned. Stark contrast to the sinner we had at Nobu the night before. I would have given one star but am erring in the side of understanding given it was New Year’s Eve. They were plenty staffed but seemed overwhelmed though the restaurant was far from full.
Our waitress forgot to come back to follow up after we told her we are missing food. We flagged her down the second time to follow up and she told us she’s forgot the order and if we could tell her the order again. Caused us to cancel half the main course order. We ordered house sake they gave us a 100 bottle instead. After confirming with the server that this was the correct bottle to which his response was yes cold sake. Not knowing the bottle was not what ordered, we ordered two more.
We spoke to the manager willing to remove one bottle of three off the bill. Which we told him was not sufficient given the mistake was on the waiter and server. It was not the only mistake of the night. The manager and staff were clearly overwhelmed because it was NYE. The manager turned out to be rude, unprofessional and defensive over his staff who clearly made multiple mistakes throughout the night.
We recently dined at this restaurant for dinner and the place was only about 1/3 full when we arrived. However, there seemed to be a million staff members on hand. Given the ratio of staff versus customers, one would expect the service to be prompt and attentive. The exact opposite happened instead. We had a ton of issues. The waiter left off my steamed rice, which I needed to eat my entree with. That order didn't make it back until 20 minutes later. It's rice. Rice shouldn't take 20 minutes to bring out. Our water glasses were never refilled. Nobody came to check on us ever. When we asked to see the dessert menu, our waitress never came back with one. When she finally came back 25 minutes later, she said they didn't have physical dessert menus and had to recite it. We waited another 15 minutes but the dessert never came so we ended up cancelling on it. Getting the check was also a time-consuming process. In summary, a 30 minute meal became a 2 hour meal for no reason.
We dined there on New Year's Eve and the food was fabulous. However, they stuck us in a corner of the bar when everyone else was having a swell time in the main dining room. The servers were very festive but overwhelmed. Definitely worth a visit, though, but maybe not on NYE.
Awful service. Food was dull and overpriced. Way too load.
Once seated, it took nearly 20 minutes to receive service. We had questions on the vegan/gluten free options and the server went to ask but didn't come back. Three in our party got their meals while the other two waited for an answer. Food came, then was taken back. We sat at 5:20 and didn't get all our food until almost 6:20 and were late for the 6:30 game. It was terrible, but at least they took off $60 from our bill without us asking. We've eaten here before and it was pretty good, however, this time was the worst. experience
Excellent service,as well for the food, great ambience
Service was good but it took awhile to get our food.
Drive from Orange County to come here and we waited literally 1 hour for rock shrimp rolls. It was utterly ridiculous how long it took to get anything.
We were extremely disappointed with the service or lack there of. We were charged for 4 items that we never received. It took them 2 hours to serve us two sides of rice. The entire order was incorrect after numerous times telling the waiter we were still waiting. Once food was finally served there was no one to clear the plates.. it's was by far the worst service we have had at a restaurant. It's too bad because we used to love this place. We will not come here again.
The LALive location was a big disappointment. It was crowded the Sunday before Christmas Eve and the service very slow with an inattentive waiter with no personality. We ordered popcorn shrimp, cod & jidori chicken. Food was bland. The only saving grace was Alicia who stepped in because the waiter was not around and my cucumber martinis. This was a waste of time and money. I will not return to this location again for food.
It’s one of the chain Katsuyas so not nearly as good as the original on Ventura. Great service, but the food is basic.
Sushi was wonderful
When I first arrived I gave my name I had a reservation they said it would be a few minutes. About 10 minutes later I asked again they said it would be if you minutes. Finally they sat me. My husband was meeting me so I ordered as soon as I sat down as we were going to an event at staples Center. It took more than 40 minutes to get the chicken teriyaki plate. It was ridiculous and not worth it at all. Very rude hostesses.
Loved crispy tuna and our server Talya
Absolutely would recommend
Some of the best sushi I've eaten in the last 40-years as a sushi lover. Also, by far the most expensive sushi I've ever eaten...
Imaginative specialty rolls and very high quality ingredients. Service was casual but attentive, laid back but professional. Food came as fast as we could eat it - and we ate a lot of sushi. My nephew finally cried "uncle" and we took off to the Kings/Jets game - Kings won!
All in all a great and memorable evening but the prices are not for the faint of heart. Check the menu carefully before booking a table but it lived up to the hype in my book - highly recommended.
we ate: spicy tuna and yellowtail rolls, rock shrimp tempura rolls, rainbow rolls, special Katsuya rolls and the signature spicy tuna crispy rice rolls. All were outstanding but the signature roll was both unique and the best in my estimation.
Food here is pretty good. Service is mediocre. Price is quite expensive.
Good service would help.
Katsuya is a fun Japanese restaurant with a prime location right in the heart of LA Live. The food is delicious and the selection is quite good in terms of izakaya type items. The wine/sake list is adequate and fairly priced. My only gripe is the service was not as good as it could have been, as our poor server was responsible for half the restaurant and we did not receive the attention we deserved. It took like 10 minutes to get water as a matter of fact. But overall, a fun place to try if you are in LA Live.
The black cod and eggplant skewers were really salty. The sashimi was good. But of a wait on the food. Waiters were nice.
Over priced food for meh quality. And get this, I make my reservation on Open Table and show up on time. I receive an email saying I arrived and got my 100 points, after my meal I write on the receipt that the server was very nice, but the food is overpriced and barely average. Then within 20 minutes I get an email that I didn't show up for my dinner. Clearly Katsu-Yuck! Didn't like me criticizing their food and tried to take my 100 points away, can't do that Katsu-Yuck! when I still have the receipt.
To begin, our waitstaff, Courtney was amazing. She was attentive and every dining suggestion was spot on. The food was wonderful and prepared quickly and well-seasoned. The Brussel sprouts were some of the best I have eaten anywhere. When you ask for steak medium rare it comes out perfectly medium rare. Don’t be fooled by the name Lobster Dynamite. It is not spicy but it is dynamite! The only downside to the restaurant is the lighting. Everyone, young or old was using a cell phone flashlight to read the menu. My wife used the restroom and found it uncomfortably dark. Even with these minor annoyances, Katsuya is our new go-to place for L.A. dining. We look forward to returning again and again.
A great place for a bite before the Clippers game!
Would definitely go back. Wonderful food & ambience before an event at the Center.
Great place. For a nice date.
Food was wonderful. Service was good and the atmosphere was lively and fun.
Terrible food quality
Excellent drinks and food. Portions on Nigiri are smaller than what seems 'normal'. Restaurant area is hectic around the Staples Center/Live, makes for good people watching, but not so much for an intimate type ambiance.
Always a wonderful meal and the staff is attentive and knowledgeable
Food took forever and order was wrong then told us we would have to wait cuz the kitchen was to “busy” to accommodate our original request. Kind of a shame because we have had other great experiences with them.
