Food quality is okay. A little overpriced compared to Japanese restaurants at the same quality level
Get the tempura rock shrimp. You won’t regret it.
Amazing dinner with my wife and daughter before catching a play at the Pantages Theater across the street. Our waiter was fantastic and picked some really tasty options for us. Perfect night out!
The most surprising is that Katsuya Hollywood was TWICE as expensive as Katsuya Americana for the EXACT same dishes. The quality of fish is even better at the Americana. Did I say soooooo expensive. $45 for assorted Sushi? And that was half a cut California Roll. Nothing unique or special. We felt very taken advantage of for a less than par location. The highlight was the Lychee Martini.
Very nice! Great service
Great service, great food. lot's of fun! Been to another Katsuya restaurant and very consistent in food quality and service.
The restaurant is beautifully decorated.
A good scene-y sushi option in Hollywood. Great for Pantages pre-dinner. Prices are a bit high. At this price point I'd rather do Sugarfish or Boss Sushi.
Overall the food was good but pricey. The lights were so dim that we couldn’t even see our menus, our food, and each other. The service was good but not as friendly as I would have liked. I would go again though.
Loved the fried rice with spicy tuna
A restaurant a little TOO cool & trendy. The background music (a funky mix of pop) was too loud -- we sometimes had to strain to hear each other over the music. And the light level was WAY too low. EVERYONE had to pull out their phone flashlights to read the menu. Even the waiter had to strain to peer at our food a couple times, to tell us which sushi rolls he was delivering to the table. The heavy velvet curtains and modish wall decor gave a somewhat dated feel. As for the food, the fish was fresh enough, but truthfully no better than your average sushi restaurant. The waiter was very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable.
WAY too loud and WAY too dark. Annoyingly so. Then the bathroom is almost pitch black. Women were in there using their cellphone flashlights to see.
Food was good. Fresh. A couple of our orders didn’t come so we had to wait quite a while. Also a couple of the portions were MUCH a smaller than other Katsuya locations but at same or higher price.
In all, love the Katsuya brand but the experience and high price means we will just stick to the Studio City and Encino locations.
food is always good there, however, the server was more interested in chatting with his colleagues, than providing good service.
Little loud but enjoyed the evening
Katsuya Hollywood is like being inside a living LA cliche. Its full of pretensious overdressed people who want to be seen and thumping loud music and overpriced sushi. Hard to believe this could be related to the simple japanese place in studio city. unless you are going out for a big night on the town with lots of money to drop i would definitely not recommend this place. its a big expensive bougie factory.
very noisy but nevertheless wonderful food, service and ambiance
Loved the service and foid was amazing, pricey but we'll worth it and before the show, definatly a spot to go before pantages theater only problem is it's dark and the restroom too but overall great spot!
Love this place!
Our server was the BEST! We had two people with special needs and she was a gem!
Good Food, Strong drinks and good company!
Katsu ya is consistently delicious. perfect for pre-theater
our third visit and we always enjoy the food and pleasant attention by the staff
I love the people and the vibe. Food is always wonderful and service top.
What happened to Katsuya?
chaotic service, we ordered starters, wagyu, black cod with some rice, sushis and sashimis. Of course, they tell you things arrive in no order but they started with... rice and did not understand why we wanted the rice with the main.
The crispy rice spicy tuna that used to be amazing years ago were burned not crispy but really burned under the tuna
and of course it was Very noisy
I have not been here for years but will never come back
We Loved it so much.. can't wait to go back and eat more SUSHI!!
We (two grandparents) gave four of our grandchildren (between the ages of 6-9) the Christmas gift of tickets to Aladdin at the Pantages, followed by dinner at Katsuya. We made our entrance feeling a bit hesitant knowing we might regret taking four young children to such a nice restaurant on a Saturday evening of a busy three day weekend. The staff at Katsuya proved us wrong from the moment we walked in to the moment we left! Our wonderful hostess (sadly, we didn’t get her name) immediately told us she had just the room for us and ushered us into a private curtained off dining room. Our grandkids thought they’d died and gone to heaven! Emily and Christopher, our two main servers, along with several others whose names we failed to recall, cheerfully treated us like royalty. The food was fabulous! Our 8 year old dreamily stated, “This is like a dream come true.” We dined at Katsuya with an all adult party of 10 last fall and we were not treated any more enthusiastically or professionally than we were on this visit with four young children. Hats off to you, Katsuya and thank you to that wonderful hostess, Emily and Christopher!
Order the baked crab hand rolls.
Although the service was a little slow, the food was over the top...not being able to see the food was annoying, the restaurant is very dark...I used the light on my phone almost the whole dinner...but then again the unique dishes & sushi were AMAZING!
Great food, great service. Only thing I wasn’t too keen on was that it seemed like they made their roles a bit smaller for Valentine’s Day. I have been there on a normal night and the rolls didn’t feel that small to me. But on Valentine’s Day they were pretty tiny. Again though amazing sushi and awesome people working there.
The food was phenomenal, we had to book a reservation well in advance, but it was worth it.
We got a drink at the bar. The first thing we noticed was it was very dirty feeing all the menus looked very used and had food stains on the pages. It seemed very chaotic inside with a lot of open tables. When we sat down we were served quickly and the food came out very quickly. The spicy tuna crispy rice was great the other rolls and chicken we had were okay but we should have just stuck to the spicy tuna crispy rice because it was the best thing. We got the check and the whole thing seemed like it started and ended in a flash normally I would enjoy that but it was Valentine’s Day and I would have liked to linger more with my date. It was also not cheap. Overall the delivery needs some work and the ambiance and cleanliness need some work to make it worth the price. I would not go back.
It was first time but it won’t be the last.
I went here on a date and really enjoyed the food and the service! The ambiance was a little noisy but, considering everything, wasn't bad enough to mark down for! Overall I enjoyed!
Way overpriced sushi and they had a DJ so it’s like trying to eat inside of a nightclub. My friends and I were shouting at each other just catch up
Nice place - good service - but overpriced for what it was.
Great place to meet and talk.
The food was good, but I expected better. The sushi tasted a bit fishy but the chicken teriyaki was quite delicious. There was an extremely loud group who would literally scream every time another member of their group arrived. It was so absurd that the restaurant didn't ask them to quiet down. After a bit, an employee came to our table and apologized for the other group (which was nice). Apparently one of guests was a sibling of an Eagle's player (they'd just won the superbowl) which explained why they allowed them to be so loud and inappropriate. I'm not the type to care about noise levels, but this really ruined the entire experience.
The sushi and service was great. Made a reservation for 6:30pm, but we got there pretty early around 5:45pm and they sat us anyway. Location is in the middle of Hollywood so it isn't the best place to walk around after. Only went because we were going to the Pantages. I would avoid the drinks, too sweet not enough alcohol. Would maybe go again if I was only in the area willing to pay a lot for food...
Yo patty still hungry
One of the "hippest" places in Hollywood without "hipsters". Fun, loud, great food.
Tasty but overpriced overall.
