Katsuya - Hollywood Ratings and Reviews
It's a striking place at the nexus of the Hollywood Scene. The bar's Happy Hour offers half-off sushi, which seems like the answer to the Universe...if you can land a seat (they're about a dozen.) It's full on $$$$ for the rest of us. Is it worth it? Ya. The service and the eye-popping crowd can't be beat--even though it's rushed for a reason...and you know what that reason is.
The food is very good though I was disappointed with the quality of the steak. Serves me right for ordering steak, right? Combine this with an orchestra seat at Hamilton across the street and it's back to food stamps.
Excellent service and food; WAY too loud for normal conversation. Also, I'm 6'2" and my chair was too small for a 5 year old; extremely uncomfortable. The hostess should never have seated us in the 'childrens' section. They should get rid of those chairs and institute a no-yelling section.
When things go wrong and the dining guest is not informed - small grows to big quickly. Easy first, food is quite good. That's to be expected from this brand. We had finished our meal - with one in our party never receiving his dinner - and when we questioned what happened a blank look - and finally saying the kitchen was behind. My crystal ball didn't know that. In addition I asked what happened to the cut roll I ordered - told clearly - I never ordered it. I requested my order be read back - oops.... - I had ordered it - 'probably delivered to the wrong table' - but would have been on my bill. Too expensive for this mess which had the wait staff been on top of the order. - a heads up - at least would have been given.
Very average experience. Place lacks of style and has a rather average crowd. Food far clearly sub-standard - maybe someone should tell them that sashimi isn’t about the size of the cuts but rather about the freshness of the fish. Service was okay, but was lacking diligence with almost every single order.
Rather average place. Wouldn’t recommend friends to go there.
We were late but they held our reservation for us. The food came very quickly and was absolutely delicious. The Brussel sprouts were outstanding, miso cod delicious, crispy shrimp, pork belly, everything was outstanding with great service. We were all very happily impressed with this restaurant and we were out in plenty of time to see Hamilton.
I chose this restaurant because I thought it would be the perfect pre-dinner meet up before seeing Hamilton across the street. My res was for 5pm, show was at 7pm.
The service was not good. Our drinks were pretty much empty the whole time. The first dish that came out, we asked for soy sauce..twice. And then it finally got brought to the table after the food was there for 10-15 minutes.
My dish didnt come out until every other person (4 other people) were already done with multiple dishes.
The overall time I was there was 1 hour, 45 minutes. Over 1 hour 15 minutes of this was waiting for food. I had to scarf it down, and hurriedly ask for a check so that I can make the show in time.
Very disappointing. This restaurant was very highly recommend and had good reviews. We are foodies in town for a short trip. The hostess girls were rude. Were talking and laughing about us when we walked in loud enough for us to hear. Sent us to the bar to wait for a table after arriving on time and there were plenty of empty tables. Our server was very nice and attentive. I hate to leave a poor review. The worst part was one of my dishes had a huge chunk of garlic. It was so big it ruined my dinner. After that I couldn’t taste or smell anything except for my breath. It was brutal. The rest of the evening was ruined because I couldn’t have a conversation with anyone without feeling self-conscious. I love garlic but not when I go to dinner and not huge cloves in my sushi.
Been here several times and I feel like thenpirtions keep getting smaller! And prices continue to increase. The Hollywood location is more of a cool vibe/scene but there are definitely better sushi spots with better value if that's what you are looking for.
After having made a reservation a week in advance, we arrived right on time on a Thursday night at 6:30PM. We had to get to a show at the Pantages. We were repeatedly told that our table would be ready soon, to no avail. After 45 minutes of panicking and waiting I walked out of the restaurant to find a fast food restaurant, so we could at least eat something before the show, at this point the manager decided to all of a sudden give us a larger table that was available empty the entire time. They had been waiting for people to get up from smaller tables, but they wouldn't and the place was packed. After wolfing down a $150 meal, we raced to the theater with indigestion. Thoroughly disappointed with the entire experience and will not be returning.
Went to Katsuya before seeing Hamilton at the Pantages Theater based on Open Table reviews and was not disappointed. Probably the absolute best hand rolls I have ever had. The Katsuya Special Roll was just OK and you can find that type of roll at almost any sushi restaurant. The Shredded Chicken Salad was to die for highly recommend this dish. Overall very enjoyable dining experience. We will be back!
We had tickets to see Hamilton at the Pantages Theatre which is across the street. There were six of us and we were given a small private room, which I did not request, but which was a great surprise and very pleasant. The service was great. We shared the Omakase Geta, the Rock Shrimp Tempura, the Wagyu Tepanyaki and the Black Cod. All of which was delicious. The prices are on the high side but well worth it for a special occasion.
We went to Katsuya after going to the pantages to see Hamilton. It was convenient and the ratings were good. I agree with the food being decent but the service is nothing special. Too crowded to get good service. Drinks came after the appetizers which is another sign of bad service to me!
Most of the food was fantastic but one dish was lacking and they took it back. Service was excellent. VERY expensive. They overbooked so we had a bit of a wait despite a reservation which was difficult because we were seeing Hamilton afterwards but their efficiency made up for it
Went before the theatre. Got in and out in plenty of time. Food was good...not great. Service was excellent. Some of the dishes that they are known for were better at other restaurants!!! But, still, it's a fun place...and really a great place to eat prior to seeing Hamilton at the Pantages...but there is better sushi elsewhere.
