Katsuya - Hollywood Ratings and Reviews
What happened to Katsuya?
chaotic service, we ordered starters, wagyu, black cod with some rice, sushis and sashimis. Of course, they tell you things arrive in no order but they started with... rice and did not understand why we wanted the rice with the main.
The crispy rice spicy tuna that used to be amazing years ago were burned not crispy but really burned under the tuna
and of course it was Very noisy
I have not been here for years but will never come back
We (two grandparents) gave four of our grandchildren (between the ages of 6-9) the Christmas gift of tickets to Aladdin at the Pantages, followed by dinner at Katsuya. We made our entrance feeling a bit hesitant knowing we might regret taking four young children to such a nice restaurant on a Saturday evening of a busy three day weekend. The staff at Katsuya proved us wrong from the moment we walked in to the moment we left! Our wonderful hostess (sadly, we didn’t get her name) immediately told us she had just the room for us and ushered us into a private curtained off dining room. Our grandkids thought they’d died and gone to heaven! Emily and Christopher, our two main servers, along with several others whose names we failed to recall, cheerfully treated us like royalty. The food was fabulous! Our 8 year old dreamily stated, “This is like a dream come true.” We dined at Katsuya with an all adult party of 10 last fall and we were not treated any more enthusiastically or professionally than we were on this visit with four young children. Hats off to you, Katsuya and thank you to that wonderful hostess, Emily and Christopher!
Great food, great service. Only thing I wasn’t too keen on was that it seemed like they made their roles a bit smaller for Valentine’s Day. I have been there on a normal night and the rolls didn’t feel that small to me. But on Valentine’s Day they were pretty tiny. Again though amazing sushi and awesome people working there.
We got a drink at the bar. The first thing we noticed was it was very dirty feeing all the menus looked very used and had food stains on the pages. It seemed very chaotic inside with a lot of open tables. When we sat down we were served quickly and the food came out very quickly. The spicy tuna crispy rice was great the other rolls and chicken we had were okay but we should have just stuck to the spicy tuna crispy rice because it was the best thing. We got the check and the whole thing seemed like it started and ended in a flash normally I would enjoy that but it was Valentine’s Day and I would have liked to linger more with my date. It was also not cheap. Overall the delivery needs some work and the ambiance and cleanliness need some work to make it worth the price. I would not go back.
The food was good, but I expected better. The sushi tasted a bit fishy but the chicken teriyaki was quite delicious. There was an extremely loud group who would literally scream every time another member of their group arrived. It was so absurd that the restaurant didn't ask them to quiet down. After a bit, an employee came to our table and apologized for the other group (which was nice). Apparently one of guests was a sibling of an Eagle's player (they'd just won the superbowl) which explained why they allowed them to be so loud and inappropriate. I'm not the type to care about noise levels, but this really ruined the entire experience.
The sushi and service was great. Made a reservation for 6:30pm, but we got there pretty early around 5:45pm and they sat us anyway. Location is in the middle of Hollywood so it isn't the best place to walk around after. Only went because we were going to the Pantages. I would avoid the drinks, too sweet not enough alcohol. Would maybe go again if I was only in the area willing to pay a lot for food...
Great atmosphere with amazing cocktails and food. It is on the pricey side so be prepared to spend about $70 per person. The portions are small since it is a share plate concept. LB was our server he was extremely knowledgeable and helpful with our tables dietary restrictions. We will be back again!
We were there for DineLA so that may have had something to do with it, but we were served three courses and out the door in 30 minutes. I guess they didn’t want us to linger since we’d gotten the DineLA discount (which still came to nearly $125 for two people). The food was fine, not as good as the Studio City location. Next time I go (if I go again - that was my first time there) pre theatre, I’ll get a reservation at 7 pm, not 6.
Booked a table for our anniversary. When there is a special occasion I always click it on open table. A restaurant has never paid attention to it in the past, regardless of the occasions. But katsuya completely surprised us with their sweet greeting on arrival and bringing us a delicious dessert on the house in honour of our anniversary. We were really floored as I forgot I even clicked it on open table. The staff was amazing. The food was incredible. And everything came out so quickly, which was great because we were very hungry and excited for the food. Cool sceney spot too.
We have eaten here 4 times before and the food was usually good...not super.
This time we both started to get 'stomach rumblings' right after dinner...and,YES we had to
visit the bathroom 3 times in the next 30 minutes.
We went back to the manager after the show we were seeing and he said he had to get
it to "corpate" and let them make the decision...And we are still waiting to hear from corporate!!!OVER PRICED...AND UNDER DELIVERED!!!
Services was so so.... we asked that all of our sushi rolls came with soy paper, and some did and some we had to send back because they were seaweed. we had to request numerous times for items we ordered that we haven't received. overall the food was ok.. not the best I've had, but it was good.
I probably will not be returning to this location.
Dined here before and this time was the best. Seated earlier than our reservation, prompt service and delicious food. Ladies enjoyed the Katsuya fresh cocktail. Spicy edamame was the favorite of our vegetarian daughter. Crispy rice with spicy tuna was so good we needed multiple orders as was the baked crab hand rolls made as cut roll. Mushroom and mixed green salad were flavorful. Waygu fried rice, miso black cod, chicken teriyaki completed our meal. All excellent for our guests.
