Katsuya - Glendale Ratings and Reviews
Food came at a reasonable pace, on a weekday. It was delicious well prepared and our server Jonathan was very attentive and well versed in his duties. It's well priced for the excellent quality. Would definitely recommend the lychee or watermelon sake they were delicious and crisp. Would definitely go back to katsuya.
We came here for Dine LA restaurant week but unfortunately the menu they posted online was completely different to the one they offered at the restaurant. We had reservations and checked in about 10 minutes before our reservation time but was told our table wasn’t ready. This was literally right after she had just sat a table of walk-ins.
Food was good as always.
Bad and snobby customer service: (1) Hostess was visibly annoyed that we wanted to sit somewhere else that looked more comfortable with a nicer ambiance; (2) Waitress was rushing us to order (came back several times), and then after our order was placed and food delivered, she was inattentive and ignored us; (3) We had to ask another waiter to re-fill our water glass and replace napkins. The waitress also seemed disinterested because we did not order alcohol, meaning our bill amount is lower.
I have been to several Katsuya locations throughout the years. The best service thus far is the one at The Village at Topanga in Woodland Hills.
By far the worst experience at this particular location. Have visited in many occasions and this was horrible. Likely will not return. Waiter was overwhelmed and mixed up order. Was served she’ll fish in roll after specifying concern for allergy/religion. After informing waiter her insisted it was not and I actually had to prove it to him before his acknowledgment. My ramen was basically oil soup with about 1/2 inch of oil settled above the actual broth. Unlike any other ramen I have had in the past. Manager was nice and apologetic but our dinner was ruined. My kids food was second to last coming out. Incorrectly the first time. It was just overall horrible. Something has changed for the worst here and is bad for business.
Went with high hopes for a great meal on a special occasion. Sadly.. the sushi was mediocre at best, the seaweed chewy, the fish questionable and rice too dense. Miso black cod was over-salted and way over-sauced. The salad was tired and unfit to be served on a budget airline in economy. The vegetables in the tempura were uniquely flavorless and overcooked. The service was mall-restaurant average. This restaurant might possibly be appropriate for the undemanding sushi enthusiast with an interest in deadening his or her taste buds prior to eating with overpriced cocktails and salted $6 edamame. Recommend skipping this location and heading for the far superior Katsu-ya in Studio City. This place is a Katsu-Nah.
Loved the outdoor seating for dinner during pre Christmas holiday as the lights are festive and fun
The grilled skewers were delicious however if you watch your salt may want to ask to have them hold back a bit.
Very friendly staff and was glad to have reservations through open table which were
Honored on time during a peak dinner window!
The food is always great, as is the service. However, this time our first course was COLD by the time it arrived & late. However, the waiter re-ordered it for us, & while it, too was late in arriving, at least it was hot, & we were not charged for the first order.
Katsuya ALWAYS honors our seating reservation requests, another reason for which we like to dine there.
We ate here before our movie. Luckily we made our reservation for 2hrs before the movie, as it took that long to get our drinks and food. Waiter hardly ever came by and when our food finally did come out, it did so before our drink order. Although the food was good, the portion size was definitely not worth the price. The food was too expensive and the service was horrendous. I would not recommend coming here.
Service was good, waitress very courteous , it was not a crowded Saturday night and I decided to bring my brother and his wife, who were visiting from Seattle, to katsuya, they were happy and loved the udon soup, tempura with sake. first time I ordered the mushrooms variety "bop " and I loved it. I will be coming back.
We came to dinner here to celebrate a friends birthday. I confirmed it was for a birthday when the restaurant called earlier in the day to confirm the reservation and again when I checked in at the restaurant both of which I was told the server would be told about the occasion however there was no birthday celebration at the table.
There was also a long wait for our drinks and food. Our waiter checked in on us enough which we appreciated but the food and drink delay both had to be checked on separately.
Overall I was a bit disappointed and have had better service at other Katsuya locations.
THE WAITER WAS CORDIAL AND PLEASING. SASHIMI AND ROLLS WERE EXCELLENT. IT TOOK A LONG TIME FOR THE BBOP TO BE SERVED, THAT I HAD TO ASK THE WAITER HOW MUCH LONGER. I WOULD STILL RECOMMEND THE RESTAURANT WITH A WARNING ABOUT THE TIME IT TAKES FOR BBOP TO BE SERVED.
Yikes. Went there on a Sunday afternoon for lunch and was horrified by the experience.
Flies. Flies everywhere. My date and I Had to move tables because we were swarmed by about 5-6 flies. We sat outside and still there were about 2-3.
Food and service was ok. But I can't eat at a place that has this many bugs. This restaurant is in the middle of the Americana mall so it's not like there's a bug infestation in the area. There can only be one place they're coming from...
This experience was a chaotic dinner in an understaffed restaurant that felt like a barn. I felt bad for our server who couldn't do his job on account of a lack of management and staff. Oh by the way the food wasn't bad, I would call it mediocre. Note to self: never need to go back.
We were immediately seated for a 6 pm reservation but it went downhill from there. Had to ask for set up & water. The waiter didn't seem to know the difference between a Pinot Noir & a Pinot Grigio since he brought me the wrong one. My husband was almost finished with his entree when mine finally arrived lukewarm. We couldn't get the waiter's attention during this time span to ask what was holding up my food. Will never go back!
While the menu is varied and location is great, the food sadly is nothing to shout about. It is just ok. And since the price is high for what you get this is not good. The service is horrible. The wait time between courses is way too long and the servers disappear for long periods of time. And they constantly put down other people's orders on your table. Which makes it a frustratingly odd experience for all.
This time it was quite noisy as someone was celebrating a birthday at a table next to ours.
The spicy rice will always be a personal favorite. The Uni sushi was fresh as usual. Tempura and Udon -awesome!
Service was excellent as we had 2 yr old twins with us. Servers were extremely patient to our requests to cater to the children.
Will always go back!
Fab yime at this restaurant on our honeymoon. We were looking for something relatively casual. It has a lovely outdoor seating area on a busy square. We had a new waiter (we think) and he was brill... really knowledgeable. The Marlborough Sav Blanc and thw sushi menu are worth a special mention. Our experience was topped off with 2 complimentary glasses of bubbly and a conplimentary dessert to share.
