Ordered several dishes. A real bummer when the fish Has no taste. Too bad. Outdoor dining a eat plus.
It was a bummer when they shut down K-Ramen upstairs. But they moved some of the ramen menu to the downstairs, so it wasn't a total loss. Spicy Miso Ramen is the one to get!
During dinner i noticed a couple of bugs on the couch. And took waiters too long for everything
As soon as we walked in everything was great!!! Love it and looking forward to going again
I made the reservation in OpenTable. I was given a choice of seating between High-top and something else. Not knowing what that meant, I chose “high-top” and when we got to the restaurant found out that meant inside seating. The hostess was very friendly and was able to give us a table outside within a min of our arrival.
My reservation was for 7pm and when I called to tell them I was going to be 30 min late, they were very understanding and friendly on the phone and were able to move my reservation by 1/2 hour.
We had a great time from start to finish.
Overall it was great. My favorite Katsuya location and I always ask to sit outside. However, on this particular day, there were several children seated around us at different tables. At two different tables, there was high pitched screaming from the toddlers at the respective tables. Parents did not do much to handle the noise. Neither did the manager or servers. No one offered help to the moms dealing w the travesty that is bringing toddlers to lunch. It sort of ruined the date.
Great food and vibe. Nice atmosphere upstairs, but service is better downstairs and outside.
The problem with this place is the hostess and the managers. They just don't care about the customers. We had a reservation from a month prior. When we arrived they sat us next to the door where it was wet since it was raining that night. When we asked our hostess Mei Tei why she is not seating us upstairs she said there is no room and that it really doesn't matter to her who has a reservation. We asked to talk to the manager. Kasra came over and said basically you can stay down here in the wet and cold area next to the street or you can leave. I went upstairs and checked and there were plenty of room available. When I told them they literally rolled their eyes at me and said if we are not happy we should just leave. Honestly I was just shocked at their attitude and response. I have been to the Katsuya in Brentwood and hollywood and I had a very different experience.
If we had just walked in, the best available would be just fine. But if reservations don't matter whats the point of making them on Opentable.
Great spot
I came with a reservation for my mother’s birthday and the hostess did not ask me whether or not I would like to sit outside or inside. The hostess took us inside to a table and we were directly under the air conditioning and right next to the door. It was a rainy evening so luckily, we were dressed warm. The cold air was blowing on my head and shoulders and even with hot tea, I was still freezing cold. I requested them to move my table, however, the manager didn’t show up until my daughter approached a man who luckily happened to be the manager. The hostess in the front said they had many other reservations (but, during our dinner, we noticed many available tables outside by the heaters). Our server was also avoiding coming to our table and the food was not correct to what I ordered. Basically, we had a horrible experience and I will never go to this Katsuya location again!!!! I’ve never experienced such rude and horrible service at a fine sushi restaurant. The manager didn’t even seem to care about the situation. They just mentioned that the hot tea was “on us” ...
Alexa, the hostess is the best. She is nice, smart and made us feel welcomed.
We let them know if was for a birthday - no greeting, nada.
We had a great time and our kids age 9 and 5 enjoyed it too.
We made reservations for a 4-person business lunch days in advance. I received a text and follow-up e-mail to confirm the reservation, which I did. The day before and then the morning of the business lunch, I received calls from Katsuya asking me if I am still confirmed for the lunch, which I yet again, confirmed. When we arrived, the hostess attempted to place us at a part outside that was extremely chilly with no heat lamps. When asked to move us near the booths with the heatlamps, she informed us that the entire row of booths with the lamps directly above were reserved but that she'd seat us at a booth where an overhead heater was partly covering the area. I again asked us to be moved inside because this was unacceptable. The service was overall sub-par and disappointing, especially given that reservations were made well in advance.
Katsuya...inspired by Chef Katsuya Uechi? No...NO! This is a blatant abuse of celebrity chefs soliciting their names for licensing purposes. As often as I have dined out I was hesitant to even consider this authentic Japanese. I personally have been intrigued by Katusya however it failed. Here is the order we had for Valentine Days; Sunset Roll, Baked Scallop California Roll, Sashimi Sampler and 2 Specialty Starters [from the site/menu] (BAKED CRAB HAND ROLLS
Baked snow crab, Chef's signature dynamite sauce, wrapped with rice in soy paper) The specialty starter is the very issue I had. I was in complete disbelief and want to heed this as a PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT! I had expected SNOW CRAB with the listed ingredients also we substituted soy paper for nori seaweed instead. What Katsuya of Glendale served was...IMITATION CRAB MEAT with slivers of snow crab legs. You have to be kidding me! Snow crab does not means imitation crab, which isn't even crab it's a fish byproduct! We had to ask the waitress [Annie Q] which stated that's what it is. MADNESS! As I flagged down who I later learned was the General manager, John he expressed it was the 2nd hottest seller. I hate to be a troublesome consumer, but it was unacceptable. John took it off the tab and explained there was a blue crab roll which I was in favor of instead of imitation crab. I will state that the crab brought out was superb...alas the horror is not over. As the bill arrives guess what I see? Further deception and utter anger. Those 2 blue crab hand rolls turned to be $29.00 HILARIOUS! As they customized the bill to depict that to get real crab which is literally typed on the receipt I am to be ripped off $29.00. I of course had to ask the waitress where is this charge apparent in the menu? It's not on the menu...there is no legal method to charge what they did. John corrected this issue only after I called and stated how ludicrous this was. He even mentioned it should only have been a dollar more. WOW
Food came at a reasonable pace, on a weekday. It was delicious well prepared and our server Jonathan was very attentive and well versed in his duties. It's well priced for the excellent quality. Would definitely recommend the lychee or watermelon sake they were delicious and crisp. Would definitely go back to katsuya.
Ambiance is on point. My wife and I loved the 2nd floor balcony overlooking the fountains. Very romantic and memorable . The rolls and sashimi were fresh. Service was above average
The short rib Bop was amazing! The crispy rice with spicy tuna was so much better that it was a couple of months ago.
All of the food was exceptionally great, and the value is great considering great outdoor seating with heaters and the overal outside views of the fountains!!!
We came here for Dine LA restaurant week but unfortunately the menu they posted online was completely different to the one they offered at the restaurant. We had reservations and checked in about 10 minutes before our reservation time but was told our table wasn’t ready. This was literally right after she had just sat a table of walk-ins.
Alexa in the Front of the restaurant is the BEST. So Helpful, Smart and Nice.
Usually we have a great experience at katsuya. This visit our food did not come out warm and we had to get assistance from other servers anytime we needed anything.
Good food... Especially the crispy tuna. Great DineLA menu.
Everything was average. Location is nice but the service was amazingly slow.
Food was good as always.
Bad and snobby customer service: (1) Hostess was visibly annoyed that we wanted to sit somewhere else that looked more comfortable with a nicer ambiance; (2) Waitress was rushing us to order (came back several times), and then after our order was placed and food delivered, she was inattentive and ignored us; (3) We had to ask another waiter to re-fill our water glass and replace napkins. The waitress also seemed disinterested because we did not order alcohol, meaning our bill amount is lower.
I have been to several Katsuya locations throughout the years. The best service thus far is the one at The Village at Topanga in Woodland Hills.
Service was very slow and not up to par for this location or in line with the pricing. Simple requests as having water served or asking for a heater to be moved to our location were not followed up on.
Wished I could take my bar happy hour drink to my table - I was told it wasn’t allowed (sad)
The food was good and setting very nice but very expensive.
Great meal. Loved our server, he just clearly had too many tables assigned to him. He was great and working hard, but was rushing a bit and there were a few minor mistakes and delays. But food was good and was seated right at time of reservation.
We enjoyed dinner on the patio, overlooking the fountain and Santa's workshop. The view is really great with all the festive lights and decorations around the Americana.
By far the worst experience at this particular location. Have visited in many occasions and this was horrible. Likely will not return. Waiter was overwhelmed and mixed up order. Was served she’ll fish in roll after specifying concern for allergy/religion. After informing waiter her insisted it was not and I actually had to prove it to him before his acknowledgment. My ramen was basically oil soup with about 1/2 inch of oil settled above the actual broth. Unlike any other ramen I have had in the past. Manager was nice and apologetic but our dinner was ruined. My kids food was second to last coming out. Incorrectly the first time. It was just overall horrible. Something has changed for the worst here and is bad for business.
FOOD WAS COLD INTERRUPTED MY MEAL TOOK MY PLATE WITH MY SAME FOOD MANAGER WAS NICE BUT SERVICE COULD HAVE BEEN BATTER
Went with high hopes for a great meal on a special occasion. Sadly.. the sushi was mediocre at best, the seaweed chewy, the fish questionable and rice too dense. Miso black cod was over-salted and way over-sauced. The salad was tired and unfit to be served on a budget airline in economy. The vegetables in the tempura were uniquely flavorless and overcooked. The service was mall-restaurant average. This restaurant might possibly be appropriate for the undemanding sushi enthusiast with an interest in deadening his or her taste buds prior to eating with overpriced cocktails and salted $6 edamame. Recommend skipping this location and heading for the far superior Katsu-ya in Studio City. This place is a Katsu-Nah.
They served my tea in a mug that was chipped all over. The waitress never came back to check on us and our food took over 30mins.
Loved the outdoor seating for dinner during pre Christmas holiday as the lights are festive and fun
The grilled skewers were delicious however if you watch your salt may want to ask to have them hold back a bit.
Very friendly staff and was glad to have reservations through open table which were
Honored on time during a peak dinner window!
Great service. Attentive and friendly waitstaff. Was able to accommodate my mom with a dish that was no longer on the menu.
The food is always great, as is the service. However, this time our first course was COLD by the time it arrived & late. However, the waiter re-ordered it for us, & while it, too was late in arriving, at least it was hot, & we were not charged for the first order.
Katsuya ALWAYS honors our seating reservation requests, another reason for which we like to dine there.
We ate here before our movie. Luckily we made our reservation for 2hrs before the movie, as it took that long to get our drinks and food. Waiter hardly ever came by and when our food finally did come out, it did so before our drink order. Although the food was good, the portion size was definitely not worth the price. The food was too expensive and the service was horrendous. I would not recommend coming here.
Great service and delicious food!
Service was good, waitress very courteous , it was not a crowded Saturday night and I decided to bring my brother and his wife, who were visiting from Seattle, to katsuya, they were happy and loved the udon soup, tempura with sake. first time I ordered the mushrooms variety "bop " and I loved it. I will be coming back.
