The food at Katsuya is good. There is no argument there. But the service is not. Our dinner was a celebration for a 16th birthday, and our table was not ready half an hour after our reservation. When I complained, they finally seated the group. They were apologetic and promised to bring the birthday girl a dessert on the house to celebrate her birthday. It never came. You end up feeling like they don't care much about their clients.

Some of the best sushi I've had. Food comes out from two kitchens randomly. Best if food is shared so one person isn't waiting for their dish. Every item was delicious. And the service as very good. The noise level can get pretty loud. But a very good place for a great meal be it families or business.

My family brought me here for my Birthday. I was sad to learn that Katsuya no longer had my 2 favorite dishes on the menu. When I inquired why I received a tad of a snarkly answer.
Service was good & food was good.

We love the "favorites." Dynamite Lobster, crispie rice w tuna, yellow tail w jalapeño, blackened cod. I know there are so many great things on the menu, we should deviate more. But we don't.

Enjoy!

Love this place but we were unfortunately close to a large group of young ladies celebrating a birthday and that made the volume a bit unbearable. That said, I highly recommend this restaurant unless you are looking for something quiet. It's very loud in general, regardless of celebrating teens.

The restaurant was very busy. Long delays between each order. Noise level was so high that it was almost impossible to converse with our guests. We were a table of four. I am all for an energetic place but the noise level really impacted our enjoyment of the dinner.

Never going back. Been here many times over the years. Wanted to go for my Birthday this year (indicated on reservation & when confirmed on voice call). Was sat at the Robata bar... server forgot us serval times, received apps before our drink, never offered water & never received our Robata bar items which had to be removed from tab. Lastly ordered 3 baked crab hand rolls, First was one large the last two were tiny barely any filling looked sad & pathetic. Very disappointed overall. Awful Bday dinner will NEVER return!

We were there for my daughter's birthday. They brought a lot of the food out in the first 10 minutes. We told them to please slow it down. They brought out the next dish 5 minutes later and then every 5 minutes after. We tried to eat as slow as possible but the meal was over in about 35 minutes. And the food didn't taste as good as it usually does.

The service was terrible and the food mediocre. We waited 20 minutes to be seated for our reservation. Drinks took forever to come. We ordered and some of the food came right away. 30 minutes later, the waitress asked if we’d like anything else. We told her we were still waiting for 2 sushi rolls. She never asked if we’d like another drink. We had to ask multiple times for our waters to be refilled. The food is fine, but there’s better at sushi restaurants all around LA. I won’t be back.

The food is always consistently great here.
Spicy tuna on crispy rice, yum.
Albacore sashimi with crispy onions, so good!
Miso-marinated black cod-melt in your mouth delicious.

I had a great watermelon cucumber mojito as well-cool and refreshing.
Well done Katsuya!

It was a Sunday night and by request took my NY clients and sushi lovers to Katsuya. They had heard so much about the restaurant and living in Brentwood I was thrilled to eat close to home. I had not been to Katsuya for almost a year and was excited to return. I have to say it was one of the worse local experiences. The service was awful. We had to remind the waiter to bring our order , drinks and I am still waiting for a plate. We ate our sushi over the tiny mixing dishes given at the beginning of the meal. At the end of this ordeal I pulled the waiter aside and let him know nicely about my disappointment, in particular because it was a client dinner. His response was a cold and aggressive "what didn't you like specifically ?" We were shocked and left and still gave a tip. I am not sure why. I never ever ever write reviews or rate but hopefully someone at Katsuya will see this and make a change.
