A longtime favourite that almost never disappoints.
Eventing was great until families came in with a bunch of kids. Got very noisy, had to move to dining room! Other than that wouls recommend it!
Very good authentic Japanese food. A little pricey but the quality of the food off sets this.
The food is good except for the Wagyu beef was over cooked. Sushi was fine.
Service was excellent. Our waitress was very gracious and professional. .
Will definitely visit Katsura more often.
Food was awesome from presentation to taste. Tapayaki table is quite nice, you can eat while watch your food being cooked in front of you, and I find the winterlicious menus showcased the high quality of the restaurant. Won’t be disappointed with any of the 3 choices! Very spacious and family friendly too, planning to bring my toddler next time soon. Special mentioning to the house made dipping mustard source, very good companion to everything! Five stars!!
We had a great experience. It was my husband’s birthday and they even brought us a small piece of cake with a candle in it!
When we arrived I was nervous that I had made a poor choice because I have severe fish allergies and they cook everything on the same surface and with shared utensils... this restaurant was VERY careful with allergies and accommodated our concern easily. I haven’t been there before BUT I will definitely return!
Food was tasty, service excellent, and an overall very enjoyable experience.
my experiencing was awesome i definitely will be back
Good value, good portion, good food. Would go again.
Came for Winterlicious but didn’t know it was a teppenyaki meal until seated. The menu there was not spaced properly (menu options were unclear) and actually said on top ‘Served at Teppenyaki table for maximum freshness’. ...What?
The appetizer was normal. I got the miso soup that tasted.. like casual miso soup. There were a few pieces of mushrooms added in that made it a bit special but not anything noteworthy.
I got the ‘Wagyu beef’ as main and asked for medium rare. Turns out the middle was noticably frozen when i got it (probably frozen beef) and pretty much none of the insides were cooked. Everything tasted of oil as typical of teppenyaki. Typical of the teppenyaki you spend 20 dollars for and go for the environment, and not a 50+ dollar Winterlicious meal.
For dessert I got the Green Tea and Black sesame ice cream. Also nothing special. It just tasted like the store bought ones.
Our server forgot about us after our main as we took a bit longer to eat than the other guests at our table. (At that point we were already thoroughly disappointed though).
Honestly came into this restaurant with the mindset that since it is a winterlicious meal, we would get quality food (especially for this price point) at a discounted price. But that was definately not the case. The restaurant overvalued itself and put their menu above it’s price point (I would put it in the $30 bracket instead of $50+ but would still not go again)
It gets a strong ‘10/10: would not recommend’ (avoid it like the plague)
[O and tea is extra. but I can accept that]
The food was tasteless, the restaurant interior is outdated and the service is not at all what you would expect in a high end restaurant. I can get much better Japanese food in the neighbourhood for half the price.
Service and food was very good. However, decir was old and worn. Restrooms appeared to be very beat up and dirty, also had a slight smell of urnine. The host and wait staff were excellent, very attentive and engaging.
There were only 2 other couples while we were there giving a feeling of lonliness.
The chef tried a few Teppanyaki triks, all of which failed.
The food was good but way over priced. I have been at other Tepanyaki restaurants in the GTA with a far more impressive performance.
The portions have dramatically gone down over the years. The Kobe is sliced so thin they cannot cook it properly and I question the quality as well. It is not my first time eating Kobe. The lobster was a half of a chix (less than a pound) and they charged over 30 dollars. As long as you stay away from there set meals you will be fine. Usually sit at Teppanyaki and always happy!
Very authentic-good atmosphere and service! Great!
I was disappointed by the value and quality of the food. When we arrived we were greeted by the hostess who asked us to provided them with our license plate for parking even though the area was gated. The washrooms were out in the hall area and as it was extremely cold outside the washrooms were cool as well. We ordered from the A la care menu.. 2 Cali rolls and the Assorted Tempura and 2 Filet Mignon. The California roll was ok, but I have had just as good at the local take out for half the price. The tempura was terrible I found the shrimp to be soggy and in fact checked to insure that it had been cooked properly. The filet was fine, but the chef got the orders mixed up and served to the wrong people. Had the Champagne and Pear Sherbet it was great best thing of the evening. Over all $225.00 bill with tip. Not worth it for quality and quantity of food. Ambiance is old and tired it needs a face lift.. looks like the 90's called and they want there room back..
We've been coming to Katsura's for years, and every time it's a pleasurable experience.
We have read some negative reviews and believe those people just don't get it. If they're used to going to KFC, then Katsura's would be expensive to them. However, if you're a connoisseur of good food prepared in a unique way, in front of you, then, you can expect to pay for the privilege! And, frankly, the pricing is comparable to other fine dining establishments in the city. So, maybe those folks who are used to paying for KFC should stay there.
Katsura has a fine reputation and deservedly so. We will continue to come to this great restaurant.
I have been going to Katsura for 25 years and it never disappoints. Simon manages to make every guest feel right at home and special. The sushi chefs are not only expert, but intuitive and the sushi/sashimi is the best. We were 6 friends and 3 of us had the black cod and one friend said it was the best fish she ever ate! My son had some special platter that Simon recommended and it was a work of art. We spent 5 hours eating and drinking and it went by in an instant. LOVE this place. Tip: Eat at the Sushi bar for the full experience, unless you want to experience the tappanaki tables for the entertainment value.
Place was empty for a Friday night reservation
Had to pay for parking after a $350 meal
I took my boyfriend here for his birthday. He loved it! It was our first time here. I would have said everything was just perfect but I really hated the attitude the lady at the front had, it really ruined my mood for sometimes. Every time I asked her a question she seemed very annoyed and just wanted to send me away. However, she was very friendly with her regular customers. We loved our serve, our chef, the food, the atmosphere, everything except the front lady. She really needs to change the way she talks to her new customers and not just be nice to regular customers.
Haven't been to this restaurant in about 17 years but my family took me for my birthday. What a disappointment! It was relatively empty and I know why...way too expensive! I don't mind paying good money for good food but mediocre food is so not worth what we paid. We sat at the teppanyaki table and there was no enthusiasm or excitement from the cook. Very disappointing to my entire family. We have been to many of these types of restaurants and they were so much better and so was the food. Unfortunately we will not be returning to this restaurant.
Great food and atmosphere. The chefs always try so hard to entertain and interact. It's a fun dining experience. The food is always consistent and good. Be prepared to leave stinky but satisfied.
Thank you for your service. We all had a great time.
Overall there isn't enough hospitality you can feel from the staff. More smiling, attentiveness are required. The restaurant also needed some renovation work to make it more modern looking.
Katsura never fails to deliver a wonderful dining experience. The food is exceptional . Although pricey it is definitely worth it and this restaurant is our go to for special occasions.
The Sashimi was exquisite, sake excellent and the service was everything you would hope for in a restaurant. The value was s surprise.
Extremely professional staff, excellent food and service.
Food is good
Traditional Japanese food.
But the facility is a bit old.
Should have a renovation in the future.
Always consistent and delicious, and very accommodating to special requests and restrictions.
This is my favorite place
Food very delicious and service was excellent !!
Very bad service, will not come again and will not recommend any friends! The restaurant doesn't want new customers! This time we are going to try summerlicious that they offer, and would like to see there menu to compare which is good! When we asked to compare with they seems look not willing to serve and give us our feeling ( go back to summerlicious, it is much cheaper) anyway no service no welcome, so disappointed to this restaurant. But luckily, I got this survey to say something here.
It was kid friendly however no kids menu.
The service was quite good.
Katsura, for years, has been my favourite restaurant for an enjoyable evening of fine food and good service. There is no doubt I will be coming back, again and again.
Too expensive for the food offering
Not using premium beef
Restaurant need to take this seriously
Have good potential but out of pace of peer competition
It was a great experience for our family from ambience to food quality. Staff was friendly and food had good flavour. For sure will visit again. Best of all they offer comfortable seating arrangement around Teppanyaki table.
This my favorite place
Everything was good
I am so happy with my friends
Great food, but overpriced, skimpy portions, and tired decor. Service a bit slow - could have had equally good Japanese for half the cost at a number of other spots.
This restaurant has been on my list of favorites from years ago. We were there for a valentine dinner and I must confess it was a disappointment. It seemed dated and tired. The staff were good ( not great), the food mediocre, and the ambiance seemed non existent. We did not do the tapanyaki table, which perhaps was my mistake, but it didn't seem too lively in any case. We won't be in a hurry to return. 🙁
Always enjoy the food and service. And that, it is not noisy.
