The most outstanding sushi restaurant I've ever eaten at. So much heart and such incredible food.
Wonderful meal as always, this is my favorite restaurant. The host/manager does an amazing job, she is the main reason why we keep coming back. Delicious food!
Katsuno is authentic Japanese cuisine.
The sashimi platter is always fresh and beautifully prepared... very well balanced.
Service is professional and pleasant.
I've been there several times and they are consistent.
I took my friend who is Japanese and has traveled to Japan for most of her life and told me this food is exceptional.
So if you want traditional Japanese food with excellent quality this place is a hidden gem.
Lovely staff. Delicious food. Artisan beer hailing from Japan. Wide range sake menu as well.
Everything was oishii from our zensai to our main course. Fish was very fresh, and my husband's steak was like butter.
Extremely fresh sashimi and also delicious appetizers.
Small , quiet restaurant, very intim and pleasant atmosphere. This is a real gem, the best japanese restaurant in Forest Hills ! We got some delicious raw fish appetizers, miso soup (fantastic and unique ) and the sahimi plate, which was extremely fresh and tasty. I have to accept this was maybe the best sashimi I had in years... Service was nice, very accomidating and fast. The green tea was deliciously refined.Certainly not cheap but Very Good value for the price. We visited this place a few times already and the quality of the food is always excellent !
The sushi was delicious!! Everything was so fresh tasting I'll be back
Excelent service and food. I would recommend to anybody interested in trying Japanese traditional. A jewel in Forest Hills.
I love this place. Amazing food.
Good food. Neighborhood gem. Great presentation and good service.
Taste of Japan in New York City. The food was absolutely amazing!
It's was a great dinner overall. The sushi was comparable to Morimoto which was perhaps the best I've had in a long time. The cooked dishes were delicious with my person favorites being the Berkshire Pork Belly and the Amber Jack Collar.
My wife and I have been going to Katsuno ever since we moved to Forest Hills, Queens, NY. The food was excellent the first time we went and was just as excellent four years later and the last time we went. It is truly authentic Japanese.
It is a small, very casual restaurant and if you like Japanese food, you should really try Katsuno.
Best Sashimi in NY. Not your standard Japanese restaurant, with an interesting menu combination of traditional and modern. Portions look small but are completely filling - I feel like I'm eating the chef's sincerity. Love this place.
This was my second visit. My first visit was much better. The staff are always wonderful. The bathroom could use some work, kinda gross. This time I had the ponzu ribeye and was disappointed. Appetizer was average. I guess I expected a higher level food grade for the price. Probably not going to return.
Fantastic quality food for a local spot.
Service was excellent and I highly recommend it to anyone
As always, wonderful food. Delicious and fresh and the hostess and her husband chef are always welcoming. Love this place!
Really enjoyed the food here. The service was great and our waitress was really helpful when we explained that we needed assistance in ordering. Although the food was great and we enjoyed everything, including the wine, the décor is a bit of a downer. Even though it is modest surroundings, which many time can still look great, we both felt that lowering the lights and the addition of candles on the tables would have increased the ambiance a great deal (and at literally no expense to the restaurant). For me, the food would have tasted even better if the mood of the restaurant was slightly more intimate.
Best restaurant in forest hills. The food is exceptional!
Ever excellent. Best restaurant in forest hills.
Owners told me there was no tables yet despite having a reservation and 3 tables wide open. After I told them I had a reservation they told me that the kitchen would take an additional 15 minutes to serve me despite the restaurant being empty
I took my girlfriend to the Katsuno for her birthday. I was certainly expecting a wonderful dining experience that would be a combination of delicious and creative food, superb service, charming decor and a hefty check (haha). I got only one above and guess what was it. A hefty check, of course.
The food was mediocre at best. We ordered assorted tempura and fried chicken for appetizer and the sushi and sashimi dinner for the main course. The tempura was nothing special and the fried chicken was simply bland. The main course dishes were more disappointing still. Sushi was like the ones you could buy out of supermarket fridge and the sashimi was not fresh at all. The funniest thing was that throughout the whole night there were many couples came in without reservation and they turned them all away.
I went because I saw on Yelp that they received a Michelin star. Because of this experience, I am starting to doubt the evaluation process of that organization.
A neighborhood jewelbox hiding in plain sight.
Chawanmushi, chef's choice zensai, pork belly with mochi, egg custard with uni, great tempura: the list from the kitchen is impressive. THEN the sushi and sashimi is consistently yummy. I cannot describe how traditional and welcoming Katsuno is. Consistently. It is so difficult for a small family-owned business to thrive in the 21st century. They do it elegantly here.
Super fresh sashimi. Scallops melt on your tongue like butter. Egg custard and uni appetizer a must. Magarite duck was perfectly prepared. Salmon and uni sashimi salad with greens were fresh, lovely dressing.
Warm service and great selection of sake.
Overall an amazing experience that is always consistent.
Though I haven't reviewed Katsuno in ages, my wife and I still go there often for we still consider it to be one of the best Japanese restaurants we know. It's not fancy, it's small - about 10 tables - but food is marvelous. This review is about a dish I just had, Beef Fillet Mignon Demiglace Sauce. Now, this dish is Panko deep fried, and because of that, I avoided it for several years. Sorry about that. It was absolutely excellent. The beef did not have a fried food taste like fried chicken can sometimes have. Part of what make this dish so wonderful is the Demiglace cause. It's . . . it's just wonderful. My wife, who is Japanese, told me it taste as if it were prepared in Japan. Now the idea of fried meat may not be for everyone, and though I loved the sauce, it also might not be for everyone. But I really hope you will try it. When you go, especially if you are a party of 4, order one for the table. I also ordered a bowl of white rice because it tastes so good when I dipped the rice into the sauce.
Other favorites of mine remain the same: Snow Crab & Avocado Salad, Tuna & Avocado Salad, Grilled Black Cod, and Nigiri Sushi Platter.
Oh, I'l make a reservation. It can get crowded.
(Oh, I am not a wine drinker, but if you like Japanese Plum wine, the one they serve is very good.)
My fiancée and I had an amazing dinner here. The service was amazing. I could not think of any opportunities at all. The food was amazing as well. One of the best Japanese restaurants I have ever eaten at.
The food was delicious traditional Japanese fare. The fish was fresh and beautifully presented. The couple that owns the place are skilled and very kind. Highly recommend this spot. Be sure to get a reservation on the weekend evenings!
Great! The food is amazing. The restaurant is small but it's so amazing nothing really matters! Loved it.
良かったですよ！We had a great experience. I wanted to celebrate my wife's birthday and this seemed like a perfect place. Delicious food, great sake selection, and a warm and friendly staff that's personable not only for a Japanese clientele, but all clientele.
The team is native in Japanese and conversational to fluent in English. The place is dimly but romantically lit, and jazz music plays through the speakers.
My only criticism is for the entrance's close proximity to diners. It means that during colder autumn or winter nights, if the wind blows when the door is opened, you may be getting a little bit of the gust. It's a small restaurant and I suppose cannot be helped. Everything else makes up for it.
Consistent and amazing!!!
It's a gem in Queens. There is no other place to compare this restaurant with. In terms of food it's excellent and worth every penny. The service is usually very good and it's authentic Japanese and not a knock off.
One of my favorite places to eat in Queens. Very small place run by the family who are amazing host and the food is always. I always have to get sushi and the soba, they are all too good to just get one :)
Katsuno is superb food and always just perfect. The owners are wonderful people who deeply care about every aspect of your experience.
Absolutely love this place. Every menu item is unique, of wonderfully balanced flavor and made with love and care. Not your typical sushi place. I wish they would improve the interior design, stop using glass tops over the table cloths, and make it more upscale-looking so that people could come here for romantic occasions as well. But the food is great!!! Highly suggest.
Tried their special steak and it was heaven. You can cut it with a fork. Food is always delicious here and Yuka, the host, is always welcoming. Love it here like always.
Great food. Wonderful service. I can't wait to return. I told all of my sushi loving family that this place is a must try.
Delicious food. Very fresh. It melts in your mouth. The price is high but the food quality is superb.
We arrived early; were greeted warmly and seated immediately. Server was pleasant and the meal was delicious and the offerings weren't your standard Japanese American fare.
Always yummy. High quality Japanese in Forest Hills is a real blessing. Definitely check out this location if you like quality Japanese food.
