We had chef’s choice of 8 dishes. The sashimi dishes were good but overlapping with hirame. The grilled half uni with truffle was great which gave an excellent rich flavor of both. The sukiyaki beef was so tender and it melts in your mouth. The finishing dish 5 pieces of sushi was excellent! Overall is a good experience dining here!
Always on point and delicious .
Very good. Very expensive. Wine mark up is far too high.
My friend and I love to go around and try new restaurants and I chose Kappo Masa this time around. Now, we went in knowing the menu is pretty expensive here but in terms of high-end dining, it really hits the mark. The food was exceptional. You gotta try the coconut lobster tacos. Absolutely delicious. Also, while items on the menu are on the pricier end, you don’t have to wind up with a huge bill. Honestly, for two, I was anticipating paying around $350 but in actuality we paid $184 including tax ($219 after tip); granted, we are also light eaters but still, no where near as much ‘damage’ as some reviews elsewhere may lead you to believe. That included a cocktail, a glass of wine, dinner, and dessert. The staff was super courteous. The location itself is inside an art gallery with authentic Picasso paintings and other artists’ work directly around you. I also found the restaurant easy to locate inside the gallery; it’s clearly labeled and points you in the direction down the stairs on the right after you walk in. Not too loud either—we had a 6pm reservation on a Saturday, so it wasn’t totally full at that time but even as more people came in for their reservations, it was still easy to have conversations. Oh, but folks, please leave the kids at home! Even if they’re older kids e.g. 9 or 10, just trust me, kids are still kids and it’s not exactly a good place to take them to. Believe me, you may think your kids are cute but I don’t think I have to say what I think!
Went here for my son's birthday. It was great. The sushi was fantastic as was the service. And the decor was perfect. I spent many years in Tokyo. I thought I was back there. Yeah, it was expensive but worth every penny.
Always great food and service
Always such a delicious, reliable meal. I love Kappo Masa!
Very nice dinner but much below the original Masa (much cheaper as well).
Service below average and quite confused with a waiter (Georges) unable to thank for a tip of 200Usd
The place is really interesting with artworks from the Gaggosian gallery on the walls
Food was ok, not that great.
Everything else was really good
Tables too close together. Everyone was very loud trying to talk over eachother. Service is slow. Ordered sushi, rolls, hot and cold appetizers, Unagi (eel) bento. Eel did not have enough sauce or flavor, and very dry. Rolls were not anything good much less special. (Paid more than 70 dollars for a meh~ roll) Tuna and Avocado tartare was the only satisfying menu among our 400 dollar bill lunch.
Birthday. Food and service excellent as always
We found the service, especially the advice of staff poor. Staff didn't provide for any guidance on how to best combine dishes, for instance that it wouldn;t make sense to both order the same dish, etc. The composition (ingredients) of the dishes, were not explained when served, typically something that you would expect from a michelin starred restaurant. Some of the dishes were very good, some were average at best. Overall price quality ratio was very poor.
I expected more. Because of “Masa”
But service Is good.
Just don’t expect so much
Lunch bento box is a steal ..
Great service , food , and drink ..
Food was great, ambience was great, no views though
One of the best sushi restaurants in NYC. I don’t like Omakase, and this restaurant allows me to have except food and choose my own items.
Cheap Chan is amazing , he remember what we love and don’t
Absolutely outstanding food, ambiance, and service. Best sushi I've had in a long time.
Terrific and interesting take on traditional Japanese. Very glamorous crowd but no attitude. Very expensive
Our favorite spot !
Excellent service and food
Great Experience !!!
My third time there and this was the most disappointing. I overlooked the prices the first two times because the quality of the food is truly exquisite. This time, while the food was good, the service was not and that combined with the noise level that made it impossible to carry on a conversation put a damper on my experience. In fact we all agreed the best thing we ate was the king crab "California" roll, but for $33 it simply is not worth the fact that the crab meat is fresh. My nephew's udon noodle soup was bland at best, the dancing (fried) shrimp was greasy as were the panko chicken skewers. The meat skewers were excellent, but they had better be for the price. The portions are minuscule as well. On my previous visits the service was attentive. This time, not so much. Look, this is not a bad restaurant, or even an average one. It is excellent, but certain high standards must be maintained and one of them is consistency. Especially when you are paying those prices.
Terrible service - servers were slow and ignored us and then were belligerent when we had to repeat our request for desert
Phenomenal omakase! This was my second visit and was glad I pulled it out for an anniversary meal 😎
Preparation of our meal was top notch & the selections were paced and balanced wonderfully. We also brought our own wine and the restaurant was kind enough to accommodate, granted at a cost of $95. Fortunately we had an exceptional bottle so it was well worth it!
Best Japanese ever
It was an awesome evening with outstanding dishes. Hope to be back soon again.
Omakase was fresh and innovative. My sons and I enjoyed our experience.
Fabulous in every way!
We had a superb meal....when you taste the incredible freshness of the food here, you realize in a flash how many mediocre Japanese meals you may have had. Combine that with the creativity of some of the fusions dishes, and it makes for a truly memorable meal. Our only complaint is that the tables are very close together and the room is noisy - not conducive to quiet conversation.
Food is great and fresh, great service and the Manager is very nice and professional. Definitely will be going back again and again.
Only this time.
Omakase is expensive but excellent. Only reason value is only three stars. You get what you pay for and you're paying for 5 stars.
The food is amazing!!
Kappo Masa never disappoints. Love sitting at the sushi bar and watching the masters at work.
Tables crammed together, felt like eating at a communal table. Food ridiculously overpriced. Wine even more so. Food was okay but not worth the cost at all.
Way too expensive
