Wonderful good and dinner, beautiful rustic restaurant! The only available table was at 5:15 so I grabbed it. We were the only diners until one other couple came in at 6:00. The place was almost empty until about 6:30-6:45, so not sure why we had to book a 5:15 reservation. That's my only complaint.
Very limited menu but food was very good!
While the dining room was grand and the service very good the food was mediocre. We had the steak and the halibut. The filet was cooked medium rare as ordered but it was bland with not much flavor. The halibut was not over cooked which is very important. But the accompanying ragout of tomatoes, zucchini and onions was absolutely bland and tasteless. Dining was boring and pedantic.
Beautiful space, great ambience. Halibut was overcooked. Limited wine selection. Still had fun!
Great food and atmosphere
Food was good, not remarkable. For the $ point I expected more, not quantity... quality. Service was not up to par for a resort.
Valet was very nice and friendly!
$60 for a steak with fries come on. I like my steak medium rare and this was so rare I could barely eat it. My wife got the salmon and it was so under cooked she could not finish it. Thought it would be a nice place but honestly for the price and what we got I would never bring my family there again. Way better meals in the village.
The setting is beautiful in an Adirondack Great Camp sort of way. All the staff was very friendly and efficient. There was an appropriate variety of dishes. I and the rest of my party enjoyed our meals, I think you will be pleased, but perhaps there is room for the chef to kick it up one more notch to reach the highest level of cuisine. It was a Sunday and the dining room was rather quiet.
Great ambience and good service. Food was great but limited menu.
Lovely place to eat. Great food and service. Only complaint is that our meals came out before we were done with our appetizers.
Baked chicken very dry. Ordered unsweet iced tea and it tasted like coffee. Very overpriced for meal that I didnt consider fine dining.
Great atmosphere, slow service, average food
Beautiful space. Limited menu offerings. Food quality was as expected for an expensive restaurant. Overall - good but not great.
Pooring rain when we arrived and left. We had to park down at the dumpsters quite a ways away because there is no parking provided specifically for the restaurant, and there was no valet at the time. Beautiful place as always, flawless ADK look!
Servers were very nice and helpful. Steak was something from a bad wedding menu, and risotto was tasteless, unfortunately. Artichoke dip was yummy. Wine recommendation was great. Food was over all mediocre
The room and service were good.
The children's dinners were good.
The salmon was room temperature and under cooked.
Not sure chicken was worth the money.
Great steak and some of the best cheesecake ever!
Honestly, it was a disappointing experience. The service was incredibly slow. The food was ok, but they had changed their menu from what was posted on their website and it wasn’t really comparable. I expected more for the price. But the ambiance and the server were nice.
Fabulous service, fabulous ambience and most importantly, fabulous food!! Well the menu is limited the two entrées we got were fantastic. Highly recommended for a special event dinner!!
Our first visit warranted 5 stars! This visit the food was not as tasty. It appeared as though it was a different person cooking??? Everything else was great! It still was a good 4 stars
We enjoyed eating outside on the balcony. I loved the lobster risotto, and it was gluten free, so even better. My husband had the steak frites and it was so tender. The drinks were good , the people were friendly. Couldn’t ask for more
Great food and service. Excellent atmosphere!
Atmosphere, staff and food is outstanding. Definitely upscale dining. Very nice for a special occasion. The menu is limited, I think due to limited staff and seating because of covid, but that did not affect the quality of the food or the experience. We enjoyed our meals. I think it’s a little on the pricey side, but it is fine dining. I would visit again.
We went for our 20th Anniversary and the hostess greeted us with “Happy Anniversary “ our waitress greeted us with flutes of champagne! Made us feel so special. Food was delicious. I had the grilled chicken alfredo fettuccine. The best flavor I ever had! Definitely worth a try!
Kanu at the Whiteface Lodge. The locale is gorgeous. We dined outside, with a beautiful view.
The Whiteface is a lovely hotel, and offers complementary valet service around the clock.
While we were not guests of the hotel, the staff treatment was a pleasure. It was our anniversary, and we were greeted with glasses of complimentary Prosecco.
Service was top-notch, and Michelle did marvelous work taking care of us. Her attention to detail, suggestions, and timing were spot-on. Thank you, Michelle!
While flavorful, some of the menu was underwhelming. For examples, the Brussels sprouts (their spelling g) were offered as an appetizer. I usually see that as a side to an entree, not as an appetizer.
I had order the soup of the day. I am still not entirely sure if it was cream if asparagus or broccoli. I was unable to differentiate the flavor.
I also enjoyed a new dish for me; Shishito peppers. Very flavorful and I recommend them! (Again, thank you, Michelle, for that suggestion)
I had a NY strip steak, and the staff met my special request for mushrooms, which were delicious. My better half enjoyed the seared scallop risotto. The main course was full of flavor.
We took our dessert, a chocolate bomb mousse, to go, and enjoyed that later in the evening. This dessert had a layer of vanilla mousse atop chocolate, encased in a chocolate shell. It was decadent.
Food is recommendable. Good and reasonable wine selection. The outdoor terrace is wonderful with a peaceful view of nature. All staff provided excellent service.
Simple and good food one can certainly enjoy - due to the lack of reservations we were accommodated in resort’s casual restaurant - overall we had very pleasant experience - would definitely recommend
If you love the Adirondack experience than Kanu is definitely the place to go for a fabulous dinner! The food was outstanding, the dining room, amazing! Highly recommend!
FANTASTIC food, AWESOME views, GREAT staff & service!!
Beautiful setting . Good food. Seemed understaffed.
28th Wedding anniversary dinner gone bad. Dining room is spectacular however we were seated in a room it seems used primarily used for storage as their was no high ceilings, no windows with views of mountains, instead I saw a few carpet sweepers and high chairs and we were only people in this room. Main problem was when my Salmon arrived it was undercooked. It took me more than ten minutes of arm waving for my waitress to notice me. I was told the chef cooks Salmon this way...If yes, I feel diners should be warned in advance. At any rate, by the time my meal arrived my husband was done with his steak dinner so I took mine to go. The restaurant did not charge me for the Salmon but made me feel like it was my fault. Perhaps I might have not minded so much if we were in the main dining area looking at the great outdoors. Will not go back.
Michelle, our server was exceptional. She went as far as stuffing olives with anchovies for my wife’s martini. We love it there!
We ate dinner on Mother’s Day and it was great. I had Salmon with Quinoa and my wife and eldest daughter had steak and potatoes. My youngest ate a bison burger. The meals were cooked to perfection. The staff were very courteous.
There was a hair in my mash potatoes. I had to pull it out of my mouth. Not at all happy...especially during a pandemic. Also...there were a lot of small flies between both restaurants. One was caught crawling across my risotto so it was not eaten. Food tasted great, but not likely to eat there again.
I had the scallops with the risotto. It was outstanding, the combination together were delicious . My wife enjoyed the NY strip. It Was cooked to her liking, which is really important . The food was excellent the chef did a great job.
Wonderful dinner at Kanu. The restaurant is beautiful. The log beams throughout and the stone fireplaces were amazing. We arrived before dark so we got to see the lovely Mountain View. The food was delicious. They have a new Cook and what a great find for them. I had the Seared Scallops with Risotto that was so delicious and my Husband had a Kale Caesar Salad with Shrimp which he said were cooked perfectly. And the warm Lava Cake for Dessert was a perfect end to a special evening…the cake was light and the chocolate was perfection. And Our Server was so personable…Go you won’t regret it!
We dined for dinner at Kanu. Our meal was amazing! Local chees plate was delicious, the scallops were perfect and dessert you would die for! Restaurant adhered to all covid protocols. Service was top notch and waitress was wonderful with my two daughters.
Kanu was one of the best restaurants I’ve been to. The service was immaculate!!!!!!
Great environment, very good food and great service. We enjoyed our experience !
The administration of this resturant is focused on making it easy on the staff and not making. memorable experience for the customer.
reservation times are very limited, despite a large Restaurant. (not a covid restriction because the same restaurant had 4 times as many tables served for breakfast). When asked around reservation times past the 5:150m time, we were informed that they want to limit reservations not to overwhelm the waiter staff.
menu options were very very limited. Only 2 appetizers, one of which was cheese and crostini. Again, not to overwhelm the chef.
Finally, we asked if we could take another portion on the main to the hotel room (we were staying in the hotel), and told us - sorry they could not accommodate us.
Food was good, but very limited menu and service hurt the experience. disappointing experience. i would not recommend it.
Overall, it was a great meal. The ricotta appetizer was delicious! And the tenderloin was cook to perfection. And the service was top-notch. We were a little disappointed with the lamb dish. The lamb was quite boring and the grits were just ok. There were no vegetables or added textures/flavors to accentuate the lamb. It definitely wasn't worth the price for what was essentially a slab of meat. And maybe consider some other vegetables instead of just shallots. The shallots with the tenderloin were good but a little overwhelming.
