Kansaku Ratings and Reviews
Chose this nearby favorite to meet my brother who lives in California and is a discerning foodie. West Coast sushi is hard to beat! Most often, the sushi here pales in comparison. Fake crab, anyone? Not here! My bro really enjoyed the meal, as did I. #sushisnobs
Best sushi in Evanston! Excellent selection of rolls and made to perfection. Generous portions and very tasty options. Kansaku offers a comfortable and (relatively) quiet ambiance and a friendly staff. Dinner plates are also delicious (sea bass is recommended!).
My wife and I have been coming here for years and the sushi has always been great! It taste so fresh and they have so very unique rolls. They recently remodeled which has given the place a very modern lounge type of feel. The drinks are good, nothing to scream about though. Highly recommended place for anyone who likes sushi! Lastly, the service has always been very good with no major complaints to give!
We booked a table at Kansaku for my wife's birthday. The service was excellent, attentive, friendly, but not fawning. Though we had a mix of Sushi/Sashimi lovers and those who preferred more conventional dishes (by American standards), we found the menu to be broad enough to satisfy everyone's wants. The food was marvelously fresh and very well prepared and presented. There are great options for both the spicy food lovers and those who have somewhat more delicate palettes. The wine/beer /cocktail menu had something for everyone. The décor was tasteful and comfortable. All in all, I would highly recommend Kansaku for couples, friends, and even the single diner. Will definitely be back!
What a find! I moved from Evanston just before this place opened... had it been there while I was in the neighborhood, I would have been there weekly! Great service, friendly staff and outstanding sushi. The fish was fresh and flavorful and the entire menu was a great blend of traditional and creative.
This was a fun place to eat and probably the best sushi option in Evanston. I am from Seattle and am used to very fresh fish, but it seemed like the fish here was not quite as high quality as I would usually expect. I also got the shrimp shumai which are one of my favorite foods but were somewhat overcooked. Still good though. I would not recommend the Unagi or Spinach Gomai however as the sauces seemed somewhat off and the spinach had a bad texture.
Overall, it was a pretty decent sushi meal and the staff was very friendly. If you are not a huge sushi snob, definitely a good place to go!
