I had the striped sea bass and it was delicious. We like this restaurant a lot and have been here often when we find ourselves in Evanston.
Kansaku is a “go to” for us. Always dependable. New waiter tonight but I’m sure he’ll pick it up v
service was a little slow. it took our waitress a while to come and take our order but overall, food was good
Kansaku is our “go to” easy to get into sushi stop. Always consistently friendly and good.
Loved the service and food.
Atmosphere was great
Dishes were a little pricey but worth it.
Wondering if you guys had a happy hour
Very friendly waitstaff. Nice range of selection both sushi/sashimi and non Fish Japanese entree options. The pyramid dessert is a must get!
Fairly average food, better sushi available elsewhere. Wait staff has an attitude. Tables very close together and I learned way more about my fellow customers personal lives than I needed to. Won't be going back. But they do make a great Cosmopolitan!
All the dishes were delicious , very fresh and well timed. Service was also very attentive.
Delicious, fresh food with a friendly and helpful server. THANK YOU!
Great intimate atmosphere. Not to crowded or dark. Not too loud. Food is fantastic. They do not skimp on ingredients or portions. Service excellent. A little expensive.
Our family of four dined at Kansaku on a Sunday evening ( two parents in their 50s and two teen girls). The restaurant was busy enough, but not crowded. The service was excellent. We really enjoyed the vegetable tempura as an appetizer and my 16 year old loved the teriyaki chicken ( it was delicious, I tried it). The other three of us had various types of Maki- all were fresh and tasty. You know that it's good when you have absolutely no leftovers !
Food and drinks were amazing. Service was quick and kind.
Some in our group get wrinkly noses when we chose a "sushi place." Kansaku caters even to those meat lovers with dishes as skillfully and artfully presented as the amazing array of nigiri, maki, veggie, and noodle selections. Everyone wants to come back.
Really liked the place. First time going. Food/Service was excellent. There a table of rowdy kids at the large table next to us by the front door which was extremely annoying and ruined the romantic vibe, but not really the restaurants fault.
Had a great meal and nice experience. We are keeping a keto diet and this restaurant has good keto options
A successful evening!
Kansaku is just a truly great place. I love my Salmon Teriyaki, which I get most times I go. My wife and daughter both really liked their dishes also. We got there VERY early so for a few minutes we had the place to ourselves. Fpod and Service both great.
I ordered raw tuna, salmon, snapper(I think) and the pristine freshness was remarkable! Will do it again soon
This is our favorite spot for sushi. The atmosphere is warm, the staff is friendly and attentive and the food is consistently delicious.
Sushi was definitely not fresh. Quality of ingredients and preparation was not what I’ve come to expect. Disappointing.
Great overall experience - will definitely be back and nice to know there is another better-than-average sushi spot available in Evanston!
How to describe this dining experience our 7 o’clock reservation was not honored until about 720
After we sat down the first appetizer brought to us was stone cold in the center the mixed drinks were awful to be fair the next appetizer had a hair in it and our final strike was when the beef and asparagus came out lukewarm we then asked for our check and walked to next door to bar Louie or we had a great meal with a wonderful attentive waitress named Jenelle and enjoyed ourselves immensely
This is a great go to spot bc food is very consistent and not too noisy.
My favorite neighborhood romantic night go to. Great sushi, sake... oyster shooters!
Wonderful meal from start to finish! Sushi for the guys and Teriyaki Chicken and Salmon for the gals. Great conversation with great food!
Food was great!
Food was good. However, what they are trying to pass as Japanese Gyoza is more like a Korean Mandoo product. Other than that, the agedashi tofu was excellent along with the Tempura udon. The sushi roll was good as well.
The bacon wrapped scallops are amazing. Presentation of all of the food was stellar. Nothing was sub-par.
The food was very fresh and tasty. The presentation was lovely and innovative.
Food was good , service was very good , nice location , nothing too fancy
Food was terrific. Service attentive but not overbearing. There was a large party nearby and I was worried about noise fortunately there was nothing to worry about.
Great food and service
This restaurant is in our neighborhood and we eat here often and get takeout as well. On this occasion we were joined by friends as it is their favorite restaurant in Evanston. The agedashi tofu is our favorite appetizer . The sushi and maki are consistently good choices. Udon noodle soup makes a warming entree in the winter. Service is almost always good. Everyone who works there is very friendly. Consistent in every category.
It's a wonderful spot for an entire family that enjoys an diverse menu. We will be back!
Food was great. We dine here many times, 6 of us, 2 children and 4 adults and this was the first time we have ever been charged an automatic grat for 6ppl. Anywhere else that is based on 6 adults. When asked it seemed to be a hassle to take off. Very disappointed and this is my fav restaurant
Delicious, as always! Great presentations!
All food we enjoyed was of expected quality and creativity. The service couldn’t be better. No kids options on the menu (we were looking for a kids bento box).
Nice food and good place to gather for family.
Another perfect dinner at Kansaku. Calamari and Gyoza appetizers, followed by two orders of Salmon Teriyaki, one order of Pork Katsu and an order consisting of Kamikaze and Spicy Tuna rolls delivered to the table and devoured with enthusiasm! Wonderful dinner and evening with friends.
I was looking for a Japanese restaurant I hadn't been to. We really liked this. The food was good and if you had certain sushi the prices were good. some others seemed high. a lot of good choices of appetizers and first courses. i had miso soup, edaname and a soft shell crab appetizer . they were all really good and that was enough food. my friend wanted to share dessert. the only food that wasn't really good was the chocolate lava cake( they call it something else). it was not good. too dry. everything else was delicious and decent sized. I recommend this restaurant.
