Everything was amazing!
Excellent service, super clean restaurant and delicious food! Worth the trip all the way from Chicago!!
Four of us had a very fun time sampling each other's dinners, talking and laughing. Our booth seemed private, so we weren't distracted by other diners or any other noise. Our waiter was great, explaining various menu items, recommending a delicious appetizer and finding the perfect level of attentiveness. It was a wonderful pre-Milwaukee Chamber Theater dinner.
Food was good, service was good. The best Japanese food choice in Milwaukee.
My family was celebrating a special event . . . my son's birthday. I informed the restaurant prior to arrival.
It took a server over 15 minutes to approach our table and we were seated in a main area of the dining room. We asked our server for recommendations for signature "don't miss" sushi rolls, specifically indicating "nothing spicy". Also included in our order was soup, and four pieces of Ikura sushi. The Ikura arrived as sashimi in cucumber cups. When we indicated "we ordered sushi" the server seemed apprehensive to return it to the kitchen and offered us a bowl of rice. We asked for the Ikura to be returned. Next, an $18 roll came out. It was spicy to the point of being inedible. I indicated this to our server, she did not offer to replace it with a different menu item. The soup never came out . . . until the end of our meal and after asking for it repeatedly. The pièce de résistance was that this establishment never acknowledged my son's birthday. Not going back.
Appetizer was cold bit besides that food food and service
We have found Kampai the best place to go for sushi in Milwaukee
decent service decent sushi. relative prices for sushi in the area
Authentic Japanese cuisine served with distinct attention to my gluten free needs including Korean Hot Stone Pot. All was over the top amazing!!! A true gem!
Atmosphere was OK. Food was pretty good. Service was not good. It took almost an hour from the time we sat down until we got our food. The server took our drink order once and never asked if we wanted another.
Just returned from Osaka Japan and went here to celebrate my daughter’s birthday.
The sashimi is very good quality and the rolls are inventive and delicious. The wines by the glass (White Haven Sauvignon Blanc) was perfect with the fish!
Service was excellent and there is even a little push button at each booth to call for service and the reaction is prompt. Well done!!
Soda and green tea, maki and bibimbop with salad and you have the makings of a wonderful pre-play meal. The server, originally from Japan, is fabulous.
Food was great as always. Waited very long for our food which I guess was understandable for a Friday night. But the wait was very long. Server was great but again we waited forever for our food.
Food quality was poor this evening. Nothing seemed fresh. Bad odor on spicy tuna roll, oil taste with specialty tempura roll, salad had too much dressing, katsu dish was luke warm with too much sauce. Disappointed with this experience.
Sushi is always fresh and tasty. Service was quick and friendly. Our waiter was incredible nice and attentive. Wish they had a few more options for some of the more creative rolls without cream cheese or tempura, but they accommodated our request to make the rolls “light on the rice” which was appreciated. Probably the best place to get sushi in the downtown Milwaukee area.
Food was very good and reasonably priced. We had fully cooked items since we are not huge sushi fans.
Slow service, nothing remarkable. Very very expensive for sushi that I could get closer to home.
Good overall experience. Must have a reservation because it gets busy. Overall great sushi, but once the place got very busy our service really died down. Waiting to reorder or for water. But I would go back again!
Kanpai never disappoints. Their food is fresh, inventive, and delicious. Our service has never been anything but great.
If you haven't tried it you should!
Looking forward to the second location on the east side!
Food, service and atmosphere was first rate.
We had both sushi and sashimi and the quality and portion size was out standing.
We will be back!!!
Our server ( Paris) was helpful and attentive
He recommended the stuffed avocado which was outstanding and 2 cocktails
The standout was the Asian Moon
The OMG dish was not impressive
The lingering taste of butane was a turn off
The sweet and sour gyozo was also disappointing
However the stuffed avocado was do good that we will come back for it and to try other dishes
Pretty good sushi, though I have had same quality sushi for less expensive prices at other restaurants. Waitress was super nice and very patient with us when we could not make up our minds. A little bummed that they didn't do anything special for my friend's birthday though.
Chardonnay and green tea, a delicious maki and bimbimbop with salad and you have the makings of a fine start to an evening.
The food was great! We especially enjoyed some of the vegetarian options, so that our friends that do not eat sushi could join us. We had a very knowledgeable server that pointed out options for us to try that were delicious.
Kanpai makes the best sushi in Milwaukee - super fresh fish, creative rolls, and beautiful presentation. Attentive service and great ambiance as well - and the booths are nice for privacy.
Best sushi in MKE, and we've been to them all. Excellent service as well
Recommended from my daughter who frequents this restaurant and we were not disappointed at all. Wonderful waiter and cleanly restaurant. The food was amazing. I am new to the Asian Sushi Market, and we shared seaweed salad, potstickers, Kanpai and Oh My God..... the food was wonderful! Would come again and try other items. FIVE STAR RATING! Loved every bite!
Fantastic recommendations by the waiter for some good Japanese beer. Great quality of sushi in the "rock n' roll"
The food was pretty bad and very overpriced and tasteless. The atmosphere was pretty nice and service was ok but considering the place was empty on a Saturday night I'd expect it to be pretty quick. Would NOT recommend this place.
Excellent food, but awful service. We were sat down and offered menus to review. Our server came to us said he'd return after we reviewed the menus. It was 20 minutes until he returned only because we flagged him down. He actually admitted that he lost track of time talking to a regular customer. He apologized, but this just seems unacceptable and inappropriate. He also mentioned this was just his summer job. Note: probably shouldn't admit that when you've already treated your customers with such little attention. Again, the food was just fantastic, I just wish that the service would have been the same. We'll be sure to come back after this server's 'summer job' is over.
Great food and great service. Menu has a very wide selections of food items. Appetizers are very good as well.
Celebrated my boyfriend's birthday with friends! Such a wonderful surprise! The food was fantastic and the ambiance was unmatched for sushi in Milwaukee! Had such a great experience! Will be back for seconds!
great food and great service for a reasonable price (for special occasions).
Our server was a little strange. I've had him before and it was the same situation.
Our first visit to Kanpai - it was pretty quiet late on a Tuesday evening, but we were okay with that. Our server was helpful and attentive (although he spoke so quietly at times it almost seemed like mumbling under his breath, rather than addressing us). The drinks were good, as was the food. Of particular note were the Spicy edamame and the Miami maki. The one "low" note was the Crazy maki roll - apparently it's popular, but both of us found the sweetness to be a bit off-putting (not enough that we didn't eat it, however). Oh, and the running political commentary coming from the booth behind us (while we agreed with most of what she was saying, she was speaking a bit loudly given the generally low level of ambient noise)...
I took my son, the sushi liver, for dinner. He thoroughly enjoyed, as did I. We sat at the bar and were entertained watching the chefs work non stop.
The fish was extremely fresh and clean. The price was midline for sushi/sashimi, worth the extra few dollars for such fresh tastes.
Horrible, sushi rolls were warm. Sent two items back that I could not eat.
The manager told our waiter that she could remove the bad food from the bill because it was a preference.
Food appeared be previously made. Left overs.
Never go here.
We had a delicious dinner, as always. Each of our dishes was delicious, and the service was very attentive and professional.
Not a good choice for those who prefer traditional sushi. Wide variety of contemporary Japanese-fusion dishes. Thank goodness the 22oz beers were only $5 at happy hour.
